Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has cancelled a trip to China, as deadly antigovernment protests spread outside the capital, and social media platform TikTok suspended its live feature, citing concerns over the “increasing violence” in the Southeast Asian country.
The announcement by Prabowo’s spokesman came on Saturday as Indonesian authorities said that at least three people were killed in an arson attack on a parliament building in Makassar, the capital of the South Sulawesi province, on the previous day.
The protests mark the first major test for Prabowo’s nearly year-old government. They began in Jakarta on Monday over lawmakers’ pay and worsened after a police vehicle hit and killed a motorcycle rider.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has cancelled his scheduled trip to China due to ongoing protests in several Indonesian cities, local media reported.
Presidential spokesman Prasetyo Hadi announced on Saturday that Prabowo wishes to remain in Indonesia to monitor the nationwide protests, according to Antara News.
Prabowo was scheduled to travel to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the Victory Day Parade in Beijing on September 3, 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
"Mr. President wants to observe conditions directly, to lead and seek the best resolution to the unrest. Hence, President Prabowo Subianto humbly apologised to the Chinese government for not being able to fulfil their invitation," Prasetyo said.

In a private group chat in June, dozens of Democratic political influencers discussed whether to take advantage of an enticing opportunity. They were being offered $8,000 per month to take part in a secretive program aimed at bolstering Democratic messaging on the internet.
But the contract sent to them from Chorus, the nonprofit arm of a liberal influencer marketing platform, came with some strings. Among other issues, it mandated extensive secrecy about disclosing their payments and had restrictions on what sort of political content the creators could produce.
In their group chat, influencers debated the details.
“Should we send a joint email (with all of our email addresses) … or, are we just going to send things separately and hope they change everything for everyone?” Laurenzo, a nonbinary creator in Columbus, Ohio, with over 884,000 TikTok followers, asked the group. Hello folks.
I was not here yesterday because, in my misguided efforts to help my neighbors, I went over the daycare place two houses down and helped them install a baby gate to keep the little rugrats out of the kitchen and away from sharp things and the food.
I say misguided because it didn't even occur to me that I would be defenseless against the little monsters' secret weapon: germs.
This was Tuesday.
That night I started feeling bad and then on Wednesday I was down for the count.
Someone should outlaw babies. Little walking incubators of nastiness, they are.
Anyway, I am starting to feel a little better. Buckleys and Cepacol will do that I suppose.

US President Donald Trump signed a pair of executive orders on Monday aimed at ending the policy of cashless bail for people accused of crimes, a move criminal justice reform advocates say will heighten the already massive inequality within the system while doing little to stop lawbreaking.
One order requires Washington, DC, which the president currently controls under "emergency authority," to end its cashless bail program. The other directs Attorney General Pam Bondi to identify other jurisdictions around the country with cashless bail so that they can have their federal funds restricted or suspended.
Several states, including Illinois, New York, California, and New Jersey, have moved to significantly reduce or eliminate the use of cash requirements for those accused of crimes to be released pretrial. DC, meanwhile, was one of the first cities to implement the policy.
Jeremy Cherson, communications director for the Bail Project, told Common Dreams that cash bail creates a "two-tiered system of justice—one where people with money, regardless of risk, can pay bail and be released, whereas people without money will be detained, maybe unnecessarily, just because they can't afford to pay a bail amount."...

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pressing ahead with plans to reoccupy Gaza, with Israeli media reporting that failure to launch the offensive could trigger the collapse of his governing coalition as far-right ministers threaten to walk away.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has rejected US calls to withdraw its claim to Crimea or make any territorial concessions to Russia.

Reuters reported on Thursday that Russia’s demands for a peace deal in Ukraine include Ukrainian forces withdrawing from the Donbas, a guarantee that Ukraine won’t join NATO, and for Ukraine to keep Western troops out of the country.
Russian sources told Reuters that Putin had compromised on his initial conditions, which included the Ukrainian withdrawal from the territory in the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. Under the current offer, Russia is willing to freeze the lines there and also return small amounts of territory it controls in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly rejected the idea of ceding the territory Ukrainian forces still control in the Donbas, and European leaders appear to be backing his position.

Israeli forces have tightened the siege on the village of al-Mughayyir in the occupied West Bank for a fourth day, intensifying their raids on homes, arrests of residents, and destruction of farmland.
Local activist Mohammed Abu Alia said troops stormed more than 30 houses, ransacked belongings, and fired tear gas inside one residence.
He added that soldiers seized vehicles, money and jewelry, while barring residents and journalists from entering the village. Many families have been stranded outside since Thursday.
Bulldozers were also seen clearing land to make way for a new settler road through the eastern outskirts of the village, uprooting hundreds of trees in the process.
The incursions follow claims that an illegal settler was injured in a shooting operation at a settlement outpost built on the grounds of al-Mughayyir.

In July, major news organizations published the image of 18-month-old Muhammad Zakariya Ayyoub al-Matouq, a Palestinian child so emaciated that his bones protruded through his back, while his mom cradled him in her arms. Instead of a diaper, he wore a black plastic bag.
Some online commentators have sought to downplay the image’s power by pointing to a preexisting medical condition. But Muhammad is starving as the result of Israel’s use of starvation of civilians as a weapon of war. Humanitarian workers told me that restrictions on aid prevent them from bringing in special food that some children with disabilities or medical conditions need, while medical workers warned that children with disabilities are less likely to get care due to the Israeli government’s systematic assault on Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure.
In mid-August, in Geneva, I joined the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for its session focused on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Under the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, governments are required to protect people with disabilities in situations of risks, including armed conflicts. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with his hawkish ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, obstructed Gaza ceasefire talks multiple times, according to former US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
An investigation by Israel’s Channel 13 found that while Joe Biden’s administration kept blaming Hamas for the failure, Netanyahu and his allies “systematically” obstructed Gaza ceasefire talks.
Miller also confirmed the findings, according to the report.
“We had no broad mandate. At times, it was zero,” he admitted. He explained that conditions shifted suddenly, sometimes even as US envoys boarded planes.
He said Washington knew Israel was undermining ceasefire efforts but chose silence.
The Biden administration chose not to confront Netanyahu, fearing that public criticism would “strengthen Hamas,” according to Miller.
The report also documented how Netanyahu placed new conditions whenever talks neared success.
Netanyahu’s cabinet resisted ceasefire terms and repeatedly reset negotiations, it added.
These moves, according to the investigation, denied Israeli captives held in Gaza a chance at early release and prolonged the genocide in the besieged territory where nearly 62,300 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli regime.

On August 7, US polling giant Gallup published the remarkable results of a survey of Ukrainians. Public support for Kiev “fighting until victory” has plummeted to a record low “across all segments” of the population, “regardless of region or demographic group.” In a “nearly complete reversal from public opinion in 2022,” 69% of citizens “favor a negotiated end to the war as soon as possible.” Just 24% wish to keep fighting. However, vanishingly few believe the proxy war will end anytime soon.
The reasons for Ukrainian pessimism on this point are unstated, but an obvious explanation is the intransigence of President Volodymyr Zelensky, encouraged by his overseas backers - Britain in particular. Five out of six Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in Gaza – about 83% – are civilians, according to new classified data by the Israeli military.
Figures from a classified Israeli army database listed some 8,900 named fighters as dead or probably dead as of May this year, with the overall death toll since October 2023 reaching 53,000 at that time, a joint investigation by the Guardian, Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine, and the Hebrew-language outlet Local Call has found.
The data showed fighters named in the Israeli military intelligence database accounted for just 17% of the total, which indicates that 83% of the dead were civilians.
The investigation indicated that the apparent ratio of civilians to combatants among the dead is "extremely high for modern warfare," even compared with conflicts notorious for indiscriminate killing, including the Syrian and Sudanese civil wars.
"That proportion of civilians among those killed would be unusually high, particularly as it has been going on for such a long time,” said Therese Pettersson from the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP), which tracks civilian casualties worldwide.

A Ukrainian MP has admitted the loss of “several generations” in the country’s three-year conflict with Russia. The comments from Artem Dmytruk follow reports that leaked military files indicate Kiev’s forces have lost more than 1.7 million troops – killed or missing – since 2022.
Russian media outlets on Wednesday cited a digital card index allegedly acquired by hacker groups from Ukraine’s Chief of Staff said to contain names of dead or missing soldiers, details of their deaths, and personal data of their families.
The entries suggested 118,500 troops were killed or went missing in 2022, 405,400 in 2023, 595,000 in 2024 and a record 621,000 so far this year.

The mobilization follows the US dispatching about 4,000 troops to the southern Caribbean Sea, at the edge of Venezuela’s territorial waters, in a purported anti-narcotics operation. This comes amid renewed criminalizing “narco-state” narratives against Caracas.
In a televised address on Monday, Maduro urged all militia members to be “armed and ready” to defend the entire national territory. He also ordered the activation of campesino (peasant) and workers’ militias in rural areas and factories nationwide.
“No empire will come to touch the sacred soil of Venezuela, nor should it touch the sacred soil of South America,” Maduro remarked.

Iran has condemned the United States’ threats to use force against Venezuela’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning against the dangerous consequences of Washington’s acts of adventurism for the Caribbean region’s peace and security.

Iran and Egypt have strongly condemned Israel’s “illegal and criminal” plans for the military occupation of Gaza City and the forced displacement of its residents.
In a phone conversation on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, expressed deep concern over the continuation of genocide in Gaza by the Israeli regime.
The two ministers stressed the importance of putting an immediate end to genocide against the Palestinian people and the need to dispatch humanitarian aid to the besieged Strip.

President Donald Trump escalated his campaign to purge cultural institutions of materials that conflict with his political directives on Tuesday, alleging museums were too focused on highlighting negative aspects of American history, including “how bad slavery was.”

Local Gaza authorities say the Israeli military has killed another Palestinian journalist in the strip, bringing the death toll to 239 since the occupying Tel Aviv regime launched its all-out onslaught on the blockaded territory in early October 2023.
A medical source stated that at least three Palestinians were killed and several others injured in an Israeli strike on the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City on Monday.
Local Palestinian outlets reported that journalist Islam al-Koumi was among the victims.
This comes as the remains of a journalist from Gaza were uncovered weeks after an Israeli strike claimed her life.
Marwa Musallam was buried under the rubble after an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City in July. Her cries for help went unanswered amid pleas to pressure Israel to allow rescuers to reach her.
Musallam’s remains were discovered 45 days later.

Needless too say this is a high level bit of diplomacy the Trump administration is about to pull off in pursuit of bringing the Ukraine/Russia war to an end.

Were it ObamaGod doing this I am sure they would already be lining up to give him yet another Peace Prize especially since he didn't deserve the first one. The summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, in Alaska has challenged the West’s entrenched confrontational narratives regarding relations with Moscow, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has claimed.
In defiance of the EU’s prevailing approach, Fico halted Bratislava’s military aide to Kiev in October 2023, and has been a vocal critic of the bloc’s sanctions against Moscow, as well as suggestions that Ukraine join NATO.

President Donald Trump revealed significant progress toward a Ukraine settlement while warning that Zelensky must "make a deal" in a pivotal Fox News interview following his Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin.
Trump emphasized that the ball is now in Ukraine’s court, stating Zelensky must confront the reality that he has a lot to lose by prolonging the conflict.
The president advised Kiev to negotiate, citing Russia’s superior military and nuclear power as non-negotiable factors demanding pragmatism.
