Netanyahu fires Israeli defense minister

from Axios (H/T T)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday fired the country's Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant.

Why it matters: Netanyahu's decision amid Israel's multifront war is being driven largely by domestic political pressure, including from members of his coalition government who are pressing him to pass laws that would benefit ultra-Orthodox students who don't serve in the military.

  • Gallant opposes the laws, while the ultra-Orthodox parties in the coalition are threatening to topple the government if the laws aren't passed in the coming days.
  • By firing Gallant, who was independent and challenged the prime minister's policies regarding the war many times, Netanyahu will now have tighter control over national security decision-making...

It's Selection Day (oh joy)

by Scott Creighton

Yes Scott the Bummer is back to work on Selection Day 2024. And thank goodness for that cus you know we got a lot of mis and disinformation to peddle from our Chinese, Russian and Iranian masters.

' And spies, hackers and influence peddlers linked to China, Iran and Russia could unleash a new wave of disinformation and manipulation tactics, seeing it as their last chance to sway the U.S. electorate to their preferred candidate — or simply corrode Americans’ faith in their democracy.' Politico

Of course they fail to mention Israeli businesses who brag about rigging elections and seeing as how right now they have the MOST to gain from seeing The Trumpster win, perhaps they might deserve a mention from Politico.. but no. Not a peep. Gee, I wonder why.

Instead they decide to set our minds at east telling us electronic voting machines can't be hacked or rigged to throw elections. How silly of us (and most of the Westernized world) to think that in the first place.

'The machines that are used to cast and tabulate votes on Election Day are not connected to the internet, and almost all produce some type of paper backup. That means three things: It is hard to hack voting machines, more difficult still to flip enough votes to steal an election, and nearly impossible to pull it all off without getting caught.' Politico

Unless of course you own the machines and program the memory cards that are used to count the votes and send them into the main hubs that record the results.

Beirut hit hard as 10 Israeli strikes rain down amid truce talks

from Daily Sabah

At least 10 strikes pounded Beirut's southern suburbs early Friday, targeting buildings in a Hezbollah stronghold after the Israeli army ordered evacuations.

The escalation comes just a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. officials to explore a potential deal to end the war in Lebanon, as casualties continue to rise on both sides of the border.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) TV footage captured intense explosions, with plumes of smoke billowing across the suburban skyline...

101 BBC staff accuse broadcaster of Israel bias in Gaza war coverage

from PressTV

More than 100 BBC employees have accused the British corporation of providing favorable coverage toward Israel while covering the regime’s more than one-year-long genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza.

In a letter sent to Director-General of the BBC Tim Davie, signed by more than 230 members of the media industry, including 101 anonymous BBC staff, the signatories called on the broadcaster to “recommit to fairness, accuracy, and impartiality” over its reporting on Israeli atrocities in Gaza.

The letter denounced the corporation for failing its editorial standards by lacking “consistently fair and accurate evidence-based journalism in its coverage of Gaza,” The Independent reported which saw the letter.

The letter has also been signed by British politician Sayeeda Warsi and actor Juliet Stevenson. It calls on the BBC to report “without fear or favor” and to “recommit to the highest editorial standards—with emphasis on fairness, accuracy, and due impartiality.”

Baroness Warsi resigned from the opposition Conservative Party in September, saying it had moved too far to the right...

Musk Says Trump Win Would Result in ‘Hardship’ for Some Americans (with additional notes from me)

'He went to describe the billionaire as a “great cost-cutter,” noting that Musk thinks he could cut the government’s expenses by two trillion dollars. “He wants to save the country. He said that if Trump does not get elected, the country is finished,” Trump added.' RT

from Rolling Stone

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, said that if Donald Trump wins and gives him a role in government, Americans will suffer “hardship” as a result of efforts to address the national debt. He made the comments Friday in a virtual town hall on his website, X.

When asked about “tackling the nation’s debt,” he mentioned changing the tax code, and then went on to say there would be some financial difficulty imposed on some Americans. “Most importantly, we have to reduce spending to live within our means,” he said, adding that these efforts will “involve some temporary hardship, but it will ensure long-term prosperity.”

Later on, Musk said that he would “balance the budget immediately,” adding: “Obviously, a lot of people who are taking advantage of government are going to be upset about that. I’ll probably need a lot of security, but it’s got to be done. And if it’s not done, we’ll just go bankrupt.”

Trump has said that Musk would head a “government efficiency commission” to organize a “complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government” and make “recommendations for drastic reforms.”

J.D. Vance, Trump’s running mate, has suggested that Musk could target Social Security for potential savings. Speaking last month about the billionaire’s potential role, Vance said, “How are we going to fix all of the broken inefficiencies?” He continued: “And the thing that’s complicated about this, man, is it’s going to look much different in, say, the Department of Defense versus Social Security."...

Moscow backs NATO country’s BRICS membership bid

from RT

Türkiye’s determination to join BRICS reflects the appeal of the economic group, which is based on respect for international law and pragmatism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

Ankara announced in September that it had formally applied to become a full-fledged BRICS member, making it the first NATO state to seek membership in the group.

In an interview with the Turkish daily Hurriyet on Friday, Lavrov said Russia welcomes Türkiye’s bid to become part of the group, which already accounts for 45% of the world’s population.

“We stand for expanding BRICS ties with the countries of the Global Majority – primarily with those who share a focus on strengthening multilateral principles, pursue a sovereign foreign policy, and do not join unilateral sanctions,” the foreign minister stated...

Iran, Russia to sign partnership agreement ‘in near future’: Lavrov

from PressTV

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has announced that his country will sign a strategic partnership agreement with Iran “in the near future.”

“The treaty is being prepared for signing in the near future,” Lavrov said at a Eurasian security summit in Belarus on Thursday.

“It will affirm both parties’ commitment to closer defense cooperation and collaboration for regional and global peace and security,” he added.

His remarks came as Russian President Vladimir Putin last month approved a proposal forwarded by the country’s foreign ministry for the signing of a strategic partnership agreement with Iran.

Last week, Putin invited Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Russia to ink a comprehensive cooperation agreement.

Putin has called Moscow-Tehran ties a “priority” for his country...
