All the hype about the "new economy" or the "information superhighway", or the "liberatory power of the Internet", from back in the '90s, looks so ridiculous in hindsight. The most realistic conjecture was that the web would be usted to reproduce capitalism and warfare by other means on a global scale, which is the case now. The centralisation of the Internet around the Facebooks of the world spells a bad omen, I think.
