Possibly a good % of those "100" (and whenever they announce some exact number, it's always really several times that) are just the security team assigned to protect that high value asset, as every country does when they have their top-tier or 2nd tier systems on furrin soil.

BUT there's a more dire explanation: these are those SF squad teams, so as such can be dispersed willy nilly all over the landscape. As such, anywhere any iran retaliation missile hits can be claimed to have hit some us forces there, no evidence needed, like gulf of tonkin.
