General strike across Italy in solidarity with Gaza and in protest against the attack on Sumud Flotilla

Palestine Information Center

Italy witnessed a nationwide general strike on Monday, affecting transportation, education, and logistics sectors, following calls by labor unions protesting military rearmament programs, rejecting Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, and expressing solidarity with the “Global Sumud Flotilla” attempting to break the blockade on the Gaza Strip.

The strike coincided with demonstrations in several Italian cities under the slogan “Stop Everything,” organized by labor unions and civil society groups to protest rising living costs, military policies, and increased spending on weapons at the expense of healthcare and education, while also demanding an end to what protesters described as the genocide against Palestinians and supporting the flotilla heading to Gaza.

In the capital, Rome, protesters gathered in one of the city’s main squares, carrying banners urging the Italian government not to continue what they called “complicity in crimes” alongside Israel.

Demonstrators also waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans, including “Free Palestine,” expressing outrage over the Israeli attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla...

Why Did Fauci Lie?

(Fauci lied because his agency, NIAID, contracted EcoHealth Alliance under a DTRA contract to create a 'novel corona virus' making a zoological leap from bats to humans which ended in Oct. of 2019 at the Lugar Center in Tblisi Georgia. He lied because he made it for the Department of Defense and it was then used to start the Covid-19 epidemic in Wuhan China at the Wuhan Games 2019 and they picked that spot in case someone figured out it was man-made they could blame it on the Chinese due to proximity to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. That's why he lied and that's why Trump was instructed to put him in charge of the program.)

(But this asshole will tell you it was made in China at the WIV... what is his evidence? Emails sent by Dazac while he was making it somewhere else. Remember, the whole point was to blame China if they go caught and what a coincidence... he comes out with this bullshit right after Trump's failed mission in Beijing. )

Labour Party scandal shows how support for Israel is plummeting on both sides of the Atlantic

from Mondoweiss

The news from Britain is that Keir Starmer’s tenure as prime minister is in jeopardy following Labour losses in recent local elections. He took a big hit when Health Secretary Wes Streeting resigned Thursday so as to challenge Starmer for party leadership.

What’s not in the headlines is that in private texts, Streeting has called for sanctions against Israel as a “pariah” state committing “war crimes.”

In texts that he was forced to release earlier this year in an Epstein-related scandal, Streeting cited Israel’s “calculated brutality against women and children” and wrote: “This is rogue state behaviour. Let them pay the price as pariahs with sanctions applied to the state.”...

Israel continues Gaza killings after slaying senior Hamas member

from Daily Sabah

Israel continued killing Palestinians in Gaza on Sunday, after claiming to have assassinated a senior Hamas member a day earlier.

The Israeli army killed four and injured several others in airstrikes on Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah – the latest violation of an ongoing cease-fire.

In Khan Younis, the body of the deceased and four other injured individuals with varying wounds arrived at the Nasser Hospital, after the Israeli strike that targeted a gathering of Palestinians, medical sources told Turkish Anadolu Agency (AA).

An Israeli drone carried out at least one strike on the gathering, eyewitnesses said.

Separately, Gaza medics said another Israeli airstrike killed at least three people at a community kitchen near Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza area...

NYT defends article on Palestinian abuse as Israel threatens to sue

from Daily Sabah

The New York Times on Friday said Israeli threats to file a defamation lawsuit against it over an article alleging widespread sexual abuse of Palestinian detainees by Israeli personnel and settlers is “without merit,” according to a BBC report.

The U.S. publication responded after the Israeli Foreign Ministry said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the launch of a defamation lawsuit.

It follows the publication on Monday of a column by Nicholas Kristof titled “The Silence That Meets the Rape of Palestinians,” alleging that Palestinian detainees had been subjected to widespread sexual violence by Israeli prison guards, soldiers, settlers and interrogators.

It is not clear how, or if, such a claim by the Israeli state against the U.S. newspaper could be pursued.

Kristof said he interviewed 14 Palestinian men and women who described sexual assaults and other abuse during detention or attacks by Israeli forces and settlers.

The columnist wrote that there was "no evidence that Israeli leaders order rapes," but argued that Israeli authorities had created "a security apparatus where sexual violence has become," citing a U.N. report, one of Israel's "standard operating procedures."...

Quarter of a million join Nakba Day rally as far-right protest also takes place in central London

from Middle East Eye

Organizers said that around quarter of a million people gathered in central London on Saturday to attend a march marking the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, which coincided with a separate protest organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

The Metropolitan Police, which deployed over 4,000 officers to police the marches in what it described as an "unprecedented" public order operation, announced that it had made 31 arrests in relation to the protests by 4.30pm. It did not specify which protest those arrested had attended.

The Nakba Day march is an annual demonstration organised by a coalition of groups, including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, commemorating the expulsion of more than 750,000 Palestinians from their land and the killing of over 13,000 others by Zionist militias to make way for the creation of Israel in 1948.

Meanwhile, Robinson's Unite the Kingdom protest was billed as a "people-led assembly focused on unity, awareness, and collective responsibility".

A Unite the Kingdom rally in September 2025 saw far-right protesters attack police and chant anti-Muslim slogans, leading to 23 arrests...

The Spoiled Prince of Kiev: Zelensky has deceived and ruined his country with Western help

from RT

Rudyard Kipling, a modern classic of the Western literary canon, was both a champion of British imperialism and too honest not to know its very sordid underpinnings of greed, lies, and sheer selfishness.

That’s why the same man who extolled the “white man’s burden” also wrote ‘The Man Who Would Be King,’ a story of two lowlife, ambitious adventurers who manage to swindle their way to becoming kings as well as rich in a remote country on the fringes of the empire, then at its late-nineteenth-century zenith of global primacy. Until, that is, one of them makes the mistake of messing with the wrong woman, who ends up biting him in public. Seeing him bleed, his subjects realize he is a mere mortal and mercilessly dispense with the two imposters.

Ukraine’s ruler – and de facto king (of the old-fashioned, non-constitutional kind) – Vladimir Zelensky is a social climber, too. In his formative years, his native Krivoy Rog was a provincial post-Soviet rustbelt town with a lively gangster scene, a “bandit city” in his own words. Zelensky is also an expert in make-believe by profession, a cynically profane showman of the ‘give-them-whatever-they-want-as-long-as-it-pays’ variety, the cruder and smuttier the better.

Indeed, Zelensky even has a sidekick, who, as in Kipling’s dark story, has shared in the scheme of power-grabbing and plunder: Andrey Yermak, his former chief of staff and very intimate friend, making headlines (again) for being so corrupt and sinister that he stands out, even in Kiev...

Iran Allows a ‘Number’ of Chinese Vessels To Transit Strait of Hormuz

from AntiWar

Iranian media reported on Thursday that Tehran has approved the transit of a “number” of Chinese vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, as President Trump is in Beijing for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“Following requests by the Chinese foreign minister and the country’s ambassador to Iran, facilitation of the passage of Chinese ships was pursued based on the deep relations and the strategic partnership between Tehran and Beijing, and it was decided that a number of Chinese ships requested by the country would transit this waterway after reaching an understanding about the Iranian management protocols of the strait, and this passage began Wednesday night,” Iran’s Mehr news agency reported.

The gala is part of the Israeli-American Council's national conference, which also features speeches from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-Del.), and Rep. Trump-Xi summit: China, US disagree on what they agreed on

from al Jazeera

United States President Donald Trump left China on Friday following a two-day summit with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

While Washington touts wins in terms of bilateral trade agreements, Beijing has warned the US against overstepping on the issue of Taiwan and stated that the US-Israel war on Iran should have never started.

Both sides have released statements detailing what Trump and Xi discussed, but they only overlap in limited areas. The two White House readouts published on Thursday addressed issues not mentioned in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs statements, and vice versa.

We break down what these issues are, what each side said and where they do align.

BRICS calls for Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon in joint FMs statement

from al Mayadeen English

The foreign ministers of BRICS member states called for Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and urged full respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement published by India's Ministry of External Affairs on Friday, following a meeting in the Indian capital under India’s chairmanship, the ministers called on "Israel" to withdraw its occupying forces from all Lebanese territory, including several positions in southern Lebanon where troops reportedly remain deployed.

The BRICS foreign ministers recalled the existing ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and called on all parties to strictly adhere to its terms, while condemning continued ceasefire violations and stating that such actions undermine regional stability and diplomatic efforts to maintain peace.

Trump's China visit eclipsed by US defeat against Iran as Tehran dictates new rules of engagement

from PressTV

The geopolitical significance of US President Donald Trump’s high-stakes visit to China has been fundamentally overshadowed by the realities of the recent 40-day imposed war against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the consequences that have emerged from it.

Despite the overriding importance of long-standing disputes between Washington and Beijing – from the tariff war and trade showdown to Taiwan and Chinese investments in the United States – the dominant strategic reality shaping this visit is the American weakness and loss of confidence following its war against Iran.

In this atmosphere, every gesture, statement, and negotiation in Beijing will be interpreted through the lens of Washington’s inability to achieve its objectives against Tehran.

Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday, accompanied by a high-profile political and business delegation, carrying a checklist of failure and defeat in the unprovoked war against Iran.

Iran FM: Transfer of enriched uranium not on agenda, US cannot be trusted

from PressTV

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Iran and the United States have almost reached an impasse over the “very complicated” issue of uranium enrichment, which is not on the agenda of talks for the time being.

Araghchi made the remarks on Friday while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the meeting of the foreign ministers of the BRICS member states in New Delhi, India, in response to a question about the possibility of transferring Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia.

“We thank Russia but the issue of enrichment is very complicated for us, and we have come to the conclusion that, given the great difficulty of this issue in negotiations with the Americans, this issue has almost reached a stalemate. Therefore, we must postpone it to the next stages of negotiations,” he said.

He added that the transfer of enriched uranium may be discussed in the future talks between Tehran and Washington.

He noted that Iran will be in contact with Russia to see if Moscow’s proposals can help Tehran.

Ted Cruz Admits Trump Accounts Are Designed to Privatize Social Security Over Time

 from Common Dreams

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz said during a public conference this week that the so-called Trump Accounts established under the GOP’s 2025 budget law represent a viable path toward Social Security privatization—something the Texas lawmaker described as a “dirty little secret.”

During a panel discussion at the Milken Institute Global Conference in California, Cruz said that “conservatives in America, for 50 years... have been trying to do Social Security personal accounts.” Cruz, who lamented the failure of Bush-era efforts to privatize Social Security, described such personal accounts as vehicles into which the payroll taxes that finance current Social Security benefits could be diverted.

In the not-too-distant future, Cruz envisioned, “we’re going to be able to go to parents and say, ‘Hey, you know that Trump Account your kid has? ... Wouldn’t you like to be able to keep a portion of your tax payments that you’re paying already and, instead of sending it to Uncle Sam, wouldn’t you like to have a Trump Account just like your kid does?’'’

“My prediction is, within five years, that is going to have a really compelling constituency,” the Texas Republican added...

8 cruise missiles, 24 drones launched at US Navy destroyers: Iran Army

from al Mayadeen English

Iran’s naval forces targeted a group of US Navy vessels attempting to move three of its "violating" destroyers from the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman, according to a statement from the Iranian military carried by the Tasnim News Agency on Friday.

The Iranian military said the operation was a coordinated attack involving eight cruise missiles and 24 one-way attack drones.

According to the Iranian military, one cruise missile and three one-way attack drones successfully struck the US destroyers, causing fires on board. The statement added that the missiles and drones made impact despite extensive attempts by the US Navy to repel the attack.

The operation has been codenamed “Martyr Mayouan” in honor of Captain Amir Bahador Mayouan, the commander of the Iranian destroyer Jamaran...

Iranians never bow to pressure, says Araghchi after US ceasefire violations

    from PressTV

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that the United States tends to resort to military adventurism precisely when a diplomatic solution appears imminent, while stressing that the Islamic Republic will never yield to pressure.

“Every time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the US opts for a reckless military adventure. Is it a crude pressure tactic? Or the result of a spoiler once again duping POTUS into another quagmire?” Araghchi wrote on the social media platform X on Friday.

“Whatever the cause, the outcome is the same: Iranians never bow to pressure, and diplomacy is always the victim,” he added.

The foreign minister’s remarks came after the Bahman Pier on Iran’s Qeshm Island was attacked late Thursday night during a fierce exchange of fire between Iranian armed forces and hostile units operating near the Strait of Hormuz.

Yuval Noah Harari: Human rights are "just a fictional story"

    by Scott Creighton

Of course there isn't a human rights organ in your body just like there isn't a spot in your foot that keeps us from kicking this little prick's ass next time we see him walking down the street.

Human rights have been fought for since time began, one way or the other, and of course, sycophants to the powerful elites like Yuval Harari have always pushed back saying our rights aren't granted by God or aren't legitimate concerns listed in the constitution or some such other nonsense.

So here he goes again saying the same shit.

Notice he also says national borders don't really exist and gives the US and Israel as examples.

Is he saying Israel is a made up thing and has no right to exist? Of course not. He's saying Israel's borders aren't defined like they actually have been since 1949 via the Green Line so Glorious Israel is justified in stealing everyone else's land.

He mentions the US borders because he believes in open borders like all other neoliberals who want cheap labor to drive down wages in the endless race to the bottom... the bottom in this case would be slavery... which owning slaves is only really taboo if you believe in things like...

    ... human rights.

    See how that works?

Israel kills son of Hamas' chief negotiator with 'Board of Peace'

    from Daily Sabah

An Israeli airstrike killed the son of Hamas’ chief negotiator in U.S.-mediated talks on Gaza’s future, a senior Hamas official said Thursday, as the group’s leaders met in Cairo to shore up a fragile truce with Israel.

Azzam al-Hayya, son of Khalil al-Hayya, succumbed to his injuries Thursday after being struck in an Israeli attack Wednesday night, said senior Hamas official Basim Naim. He is the fourth son of Hamas' exiled Gaza chief to have been killed in Israeli attacks.

The Israeli military did not respond to a request for comment.

Al-Hayya, who has seven children, has survived multiple Israeli attempts to kill him. An Israeli strike in Doha last year targeting Hamas leadership killed his son, though al-Hayya survived. Two other sons were killed in past Israeli attempts on his life, in Gaza strikes in 2008 and 2014.

Speaking to Al Jazeera after the attack Wednesday night, before his son's death was announced, Hayya accused Israel of trying to undermine mediators' efforts to push ahead with U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza plan, overseen by his so-called "Board of Peace."...

Saudi Arabia denied US access to airspace, pressured Trump to pause Project Freedom

    from Jerusalem Post

US President Donald Trump’s decision to pause a US operation to guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz came as a result of pressure from Saudi Arabia, according to an NBC News report citing two US officials.

According to the officials, the US’s allies among the Gulf states were surprised by Trump’s Sunday announcement of Project Freedom, which was launched on Monday.

Saudi Arabian leadership informed the US that it would not allow US military aircraft to fly from the Saudi Prince Sultan Airbase or through Saudi airspace to carry out the effort to escort stranded vessels out of the strait, the report continued.

Trump attempted to resolve the issue with a call to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to no avail, the officials stated. Trump was then forced to halt the effort in order to regain US military access to the strategically critical airspace.

Saudi Arabia forced Trump to pause Project Freedom after suspending US access to bases and airspace

    from the Independent

President Donald Trump dramatically backtracked on Project Freedom after just two days because its Gulf ally Saudi Arabia blocked access to its military bases and airspace, according to reports.

Just 48 hours after announcing the operation to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the US leader paused the initiative to enable negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Iran had attacked ships across the Gulf and struck a port in the UAE, on Tuesday.

It has now emerged that Trump’s decision to pause the operation was driven by complaints by Saudi Arabia, two US officials told NBC News.

Saudi Arabia’s leaders had been angered by the announcement and the government told the US it would not allow American military forces to fly aircraft through Prince Sultan Airbase, located southeast of its capital Riyadh.

Officials said the Kingdom denied access for any US aircraft to fly through Saudi airspace as part of Project Freedom...

Kevin O'Leary says opponents of his Utah data center are 'professional protesters' — and some are powered by AI

    from Business Insider

O'Leary is dismissing critics of the multibillion-dollar project as "professional protesters" and suggesting some of the opposition is being amplified by artificial intelligence.

In a post on X and an accompanying video, O'Leary, also known as Mr. Wonderful, said concerns about the project — including its impact on air, water use, heat, and noise — are well understood by his team.

"I'm actually the only developer of data centers on earth that graduated from environmental studies, so I'm pretty aware of what these concerns are," he said in the clip, posted Tuesday.

The Box Elder County data center is facing pushback from those worried about environmental strain and resource use, a common flash point as energy-hungry data centers fueling the growth of AI expand across the US...

‘Shame! Shame! Shame!’: Local Residents Furious After Shark Tank Billionaire’s Data Center Approved in Utah

(You pay for their football stadiums. You pay for their hockey arenas. You pay for their tax breaks. And if you are in the military, sometimes you pay for their expansionist imperial ambitions with your lives. So today the masters of the universe can't figure out why you balk at paying for their water and electric bill when they want to make a shit-ton of money commodifying your personal data and spying on you. Don't you know your place in the brave new techno-feudal state they are building for us? Luddite.)

    from Common Dreams

County commissioners in Box Elder County, Utah, were deluged with chants of “Shame! Shame! Shame!” from a crowd of hundreds on Monday night as they voted unanimously to move forward with a sprawling “hyperscale” artificial intelligence data center project that many residents fear will cause energy prices to soar and imperil water access.

The project, known by state officials as “Stratos,” was proposed by the celebrity venture capitalist Kevin O’Leary and has been rushed along by Utah’s Military Installation Development Authority, which recently approved a gigantic energy tax break for the program to help “lure” the billionaire “Shark Tank” investor.

The development, dubbed “Wonder Valley” after O’Leary’s “Mr. Wonderful” TV persona, would span more than 40,000 acres of northern Utah—more than two and a half times the size of Manhattan—and would consume more than twice the electricity currently used by the entire state if approved, according to Axios.

Trump Wanted to Trigger Global Economic Doomsday Scenario with Iran Invasion

Trump and the Zionist cronies at the Heritage Foundation (Project 2025) have been making the economy scream since he came back into office in Jan. of 2025. Now he admits while answering a question that he planned for up to $300 barrels of oil when he decided to attack Iran on behalf of Netanyahu. That would trigger a doomsday scenario casting much of the Westernized world into a global depression that would ultimately pave the way for the Great Reset. Remember, the last time they tried to do this... Covid-19... Trump and his same advisors were ALSO IN CHARGE BACK THEN. This is not conspiracy theory. This is not partisan hackery (I leave that to the likes of Secular Talk and the Midas Touch)   This is PATTERN RECOGNITION. Everything they do is an attempt to collapse the economy and now they have the perfect mechanism for doing it on a global scale.

    Leg and Cat UPDATE

    by Scott Creighton

Turns out my leg is now infected. Not good for animal bites.

Home health care person wanted me to go directly to hospital for an antibiotic IV drip but instead I talked her into ordering a specialist to come by and check on the wound and maybe prescribe a different more effective one. No one to look after the animals.

Spoke directly to my GP who said he is concerned and wants me to come see him tomorrow if I don't hear from the specialist by noon.

Also, the person doing Novichok's evaluation called and we had a nice chat about her. Her 10 day observation period is up on Weds. and they will be making a decision as to whether or not they can put her up for adoption then.

I told her what a sweetheart Novichok is and that it's my fault for not closing the door. I let her know I lived with that cat in my office and around the house for 7 weeks and she would make someone a great companion... as long as they don't have dogs.

I also told her if they decide they can't put her up for adoption, then I would come down and get her and bring her back here. Not going to let this happenstance cost her her little life. So either way, Novichok is going to be OK.

The infection makes me very tired. I'm sleeping a lot as a result. Now it makes sense.

Anyway, thought I would let you guys know what is up. Will give you an update as soon as I know something. Take care.

Op. Freedom PLUS: The PLUS is... Go Real Fast

Operation Freedom is DOA already after Iran shot a couple missiles across the bows of a couple US Navy vessels trying to pass thru the Strait of Hormuz. This is leading to folks claiming TrumpyBear has been humiliated by the Iranians and I think maybe we shouldn't be megaphoning that narrative as it seems like Mossad propaganda designed to shame Trump into bombing Iran some more. Anyway, here's some news this morning. Enjoy.

Jeffrey Epstein’s Possible Suicide Note Hidden From Public View

    from the New York Times

A suicide note purportedly written by Jeffrey Epstein in a Manhattan jail has been kept secret for nearly seven years, locked up in a New York courthouse.

A cellmate said he discovered the note in July 2019, after Mr. Epstein was found unresponsive with a strip of cloth around his neck. Mr. Epstein survived that incident but weeks later was found dead in the jail.

The note was eventually sealed by a federal judge as part of the cellmate’s own criminal case, according to documents and interviews. That means investigators scrutinizing Mr. Epstein’s high-profile death lacked what could have been a key piece of evidence.

On Thursday, The New York Times petitioned the judge to unseal the note, which said it was “time to say goodbye,” the cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, recalled. While Mr. Tartaglione mentioned the note on a podcast last year, the scrawled message has remained hidden from public view, even at a time of unprecedented transparency around the government’s investigations into Mr. Epstein. Since December, the Justice Department has released millions of pages of documents related to the sexual predator.

The Times has not seen the note and could not find it in the Epstein files. A Justice Department spokeswoman said the agency had not seen it.

Trump likens American forces seizing Iranian ships to pirates

(If he hadn't been born to the father he was, this man wouldn't have risen to a position higher than assistant manager of a Burger King and he wouldn't have kept that job for long because he would have been caught stealing out of the cash drawer. He's fucking garbage. He's a garbage human being and his cult still worship him like Jesus. I guess they think Jesus was a garbage human being as well.)

    from RT

US President Donald Trump has joked that American forces are behaving like pirates as he boasted about the capture of tankers and cargo ships attempting to breach the blockade of Iranian ports.

Oil prices surged past $120 a barrel this week for the first time since 2022, while Trump’s approval rating fell to 34%, a record low in Reuters/Ipsos polling.

Speaking at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches dinner in Florida on Friday, Trump recalled how a destroyer fired at the Iranian-flagged cargo vessel Touska near the Strait of Hormuz on April 19 before it was boarded by US Marines.

“We took over the ship. We took over the cargo, took over the oil. It’s a very profitable business. Who would have thought we were doing that? We’re like pirates. We’re sort of like pirates,” Trump said, prompting laughter in the audience...

UK’s Starmer eyes banning some pro-Palestine protests

    from al Jazeera

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says some pro-Palestine marches could be banned and people who use the phrase “globalise the Intifada” could be prosecuted.

In an interview broadcast by the BBC on Saturday, Starmer advocated for tighter language restrictions at pro-Palestine marches, adding that in some cases, rallies could be prohibited altogether.

“I’m a big defender of freedom of expression, peaceful protests,” he told the BBC. “But when there are chants like ‘globalise the Intifada’, that’s completely off limits.”

“Clearly, there should be tougher action in relation to that,” he added.

Discussions had been taking place with the police for some time about what further action could be taken, he added. Asked whether he sought to completely bar some rallies, Starmer said he thought that would be appropriate in some cases...

Musk v. Altman week 1: Elon Musk says he was duped, warns AI could kill us all, and admits that xAI distills OpenAI’s models

    from MIT Review

In the first week of the landmark trial between Elon Musk and OpenAI, Musk took the stand in a crisp black suit and tie and argued that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman had deceived him into bankrolling the company. Along the way, he warned that AI could destroy us all and sat through revelations that he had poached OpenAI employees for his own companies. He even confessed, to some audible gasps in the courtroom, that his own AI company, xAI, which makes the chatbot Grok, uses OpenAI’s models to train its own.

The federal courthouse in Oakland, California, was packed with armies of lawyers carrying boxes of exhibits, journalists typing away at their laptops, and a handful of concerned OpenAI employees. Outside, protesters lined the streets, carrying signs urging people to quit ChatGPT, boycott Tesla, or both. Musk looked calm and comfortable, slipping in the occasional quip in his distinct South African accent. But he also was full of remorse...

White House Claims Ceasefire Resets War Powers Act Deadline

    from AntiWar

A senior White House official claimed that President Donald Trump does not need Congressional approval to continue the war against Iran because the ongoing ceasefire negates the deadline imposed by the War Powers Act.

On Thursday, a US official told News Nation that “for War Powers Resolution purposes,” the war against Iran had ended. The War Powers Act was passed after the Vietnam War and was intended to strengthen Congressional oversight over war.

Additionally, the War Powers Act is a law and does not alter the Constitutional limits on Presidential war powers. The Constitution grants Congress the exclusive power to declare war.

However, the law has been reinterpreted to allow a President to wage war for 60 days without seeking Congressional approval. The 60-day deadline for the war in Iran expired on Friday, and if Trump wants to restart the war, he needs Congress to pass a Declaration of War or Authorization for Use of Military Force.

The administration appears to be attempting to use the ceasefire, which began three weeks ago, to sidestep the War Powers Act. “We are in a ceasefire right now, which [in] our understanding means the 60-day clock pauses, or stops,” Hegseth told Sen Tim Kaine during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing...

‘A Moment of Reckoning’: 4,000+ May Day Demonstrations Across US

    from Common Dreams

In thousands of locations across the United States, workers and students are taking off from work and school and swearing off shopping on Friday as part of a national May Day protest.

May Day Strong, a coalition of activist groups and unions organizing the events, said more than 4,000 actions, from marches to pickets to displays of peaceful civil disobedience, were underway.

It is yet another nationwide display of coordinated resistance to the Trump administration’s agenda, including its war in Iran and its use of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to attack immigrant communities, issues that were at the forefront of March’s “No Kings” protests.

Six young protesters with the Sunrise Movement were taken into custody after blocking a bridge in Minneapolis in what they said was an act of “nonviolent noncooperation” to “stand up to the war in Iran and against ICE terrorizing our neighbors and our cities.”

Dozens more Sunrise protesters in Portland held a sit-in in the lobby of a Hilton hotel that was housing top officials with the Department of Homeland Security, leading to eight arrests...

Hidden costs of US Iran war push total far beyond $25bn Pentagon claim

    from al Mayadeen English

The Pentagon’s declared $25 billion cost of the war on Iran is likely a significant understatement of the war's true financial burden, Bloomberg reported, citing analysts. Senior US defense officials disclosed the figure during testimony at a contentious congressional hearing on Wednesday, outlining the total cost incurred so far.

Calculations by Bloomberg, based on Pentagon data, suggest that the cost of certain munitions, destroyed equipment, and operational expenses alone amounts to around $14 billion. This includes $8 billion for munitions, $5 billion to replace lost aircraft and damaged equipment, and approximately $1 billion in operational costs for deploying two aircraft carriers and 16 destroyers over 39 days of near-continuous strikes.

The estimate does not account for the cost of repairing damaged facilities across the region, such as the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, which has been repeatedly targeted in Iranian attacks. It also excludes the operational costs of all ships and aircraft involved in the military buildup prior to February 28, as well as those currently engaged in the ongoing blockade...

31 million and counting: 'Janfada' campaign unites resilient Iranian nation against enemy

(Ready yourself for the press to claim this is evidence of some kind of fundamentalist fervor propaganda or an AI fabrication designed to give Americans pause during negotiations.  While either or both of those things can be at least partially true the reality is, it isn't hard to get people to stand up and defend their nation when they are being illegally attacked for no reason by a genocidal freak (Netanyahu) and his nut-job pedophile flunkie sidekick (TrumpyBear)  For the record I believe every word of it regardless of why Iranians sign up the point is this is and will be a quagmire unlike any we have engaged in in the past. You will never cow these people with shock and awe, all you will do is make more fighters, more resistance, more hardliners willing to do whatever it takes, fight whatever kind of war it takes to drive us out of their nation. It is stupid for Fox News to platform people like the Shah's son. The people of Iran will never go back to living under another Shah, him or anyone else (MEK?) and that's a fact. They are much more like the people of Afghanistan than the people of Iraq. So yes, trust these numbers. No matter how they got there, they are ready and waiting... and we shouldn't invade if indeed we love the troops.)

    from PressTV

Arash Sadeghi signed up late in the evening a few weeks ago for the nationwide campaign to defend the country, hunched over his laptop in his family apartment in Tehran.

The 21-year-old had been following the news all day, watching messages from friends and acquaintances pour in one after another.

By the time he reached the registration page for the "Sacrifice for Iran" (Janfada-e-Iran) campaign, he already knew what he had to do.

“There was no need to discuss it or think about it or seek anyone’s advice,” he told the Press TV website. “Everyone around me had already done it, and it was the right thing to do.”

He typed in his details and pressed submit. His phone kept lighting up with notifications – classmates from university, cousins from the city of Karaj, neighbors his age – all confirming that they, too, had joined the massively popular campaign.

“All my friends have enrolled for the campaign,” the fine arts student said, repeating it as he scrolled through his messages. “We are ready to give our lives for Iran if need arises.”

He said it plainly, almost as if describing a daily responsibility rather than a life-and-death choice. “Everyone I know sees it the same way. It’s not something we had to debate.”

Across the apartment, his mother asked if he had finished. Sadeghi nodded. His mother didn’t question it. According to Sadeghi, most parents in his neighbourhood already knew their sons and daughters were registering.

“It’s normal now,” he said in a freewheeling conversation with the Press TV website. “People talk about it like they talk about exams or work. It’s just something you do.”...
