As Americans face tariff-related price hikes, surging health insurance premiums, and fallout from the government shutdown, from missed paychecks to no food assistance, the Federal Reserve on Wednesday announced its second interest rate cut of the year.
“Job gains have slowed this year, and the unemployment rate has edged up but remained low through August,” the US central bank said in a statement about the Federal Open Market Committee cutting the benchmark interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point to 3.75-4%, its lowest level in three years. “Inflation has moved up since earlier in the year and remains somewhat elevated.”
When the Fed slashed the federal funds rate last month, economist Alex Jacquez warned that it would “do little to address” the “economic turmoil” created by President Donald Trump. On Wednesday, the former Obama administration official, who is now chief of policy and advocacy at the think tank Groundwork Collaborative, again took aim at the US leader.
“The Fed’s decision only confirms what Americans already know—the economy is slowing, job growth has stalled, prices keep climbing, and consumers are pulling back because they’re out of options,” Jacquez said in a statement. “Trump’s reckless economic agenda is pushing our economy to the brink, and working families are paying the price.”...

Nearly 100,000 young men have fled Ukraine in just two months after Kiev eased movement restrictions under martial law in an effort to address its ongoing conscription crisis, according to reports by Politico Europe and The Telegraph.
Citing data from the Polish Border Guard, the outlets revealed that 98,500 Ukrainian males aged between 18 and 22 crossed the border in September and October. This marks a dramatic increase compared to the 45,300 who left between January and the end of August.
In a bid to prevent parents from sending their teenage sons abroad and to allow returnees to avoid prosecution, Kiev lifted the travel ban on men under the age of 23. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko stated that the policy was intended to help citizens abroad “maintain ties with Ukraine.”

Israel’s latest attacks on Gaza and its parliament’s move to annex the occupied West Bank prove that Tel Aviv has no real agenda for peace, but rather aims to continue its occupation and genocide, Türkiye’s Communications Director said Wednesday.
In a statement, Burhanettin Duran said the recent attack, which killed at least nine Palestinians, demonstrates once again that Israel poses a threat to regional peace and stability.
“The so-called decision by the Israeli parliament to annex the occupied West Bank and the subsequent attack on Gaza show that Israel has no intention of pursuing peace – instead, it seeks to perpetuate occupation and genocide,” he said in a statement.
He called on the international community to show determination in condemning Israel’s genocidal policies and holding it accountable for crimes against civilians...

An Israeli airstrike on the northern parts of the besieged Gaza Strip has killed two more Palestinians, just hours after the Tel Aviv regime claimed it was resuming the fragile ceasefire.
The Israeli military carried out an airstrike on Wednesday evening in the Beit Lahiya area of the northern Gaza Strip, killing at least two people, according to al‑Shifa Hospital.
The deadly air raid followed a night of heavy bombardment that left more than 100 Palestinians dead, including at least 46 children, across the war-torn Palestinian territory.
The airstrike on Wednesday came even as the occupying entity claimed to be resuming the fragile ceasefire that had been agreed in October between Tel Aviv and the Gaza-based resistance movement Hamas.
“It’s a crime. Either there is a truce or a war – it can’t be both. The children couldn’t sleep; they thought the war was over,” said Khadija al-Husni, a displaced mother living with her children at a school in Gaza’s Shati refugee camp...

A suspected gang leader is allegedly aiding Ukrainian recruitment officials in their mobilization efforts, according to several news outlets, including UNIAN. The man was previously accused of orchestrating kidnappings in Odessa, according to reports.
Identified by the media as Magomed Aydamirov, the man appears in a video that shows the actions of draft officers, first published by a local Telegram channel. In it, a bearded man in camouflage threatens an individual who was speaking with a police officer, searching for potential conscripts on the street.
Aydamirov was arrested in 2018 on suspicion of running a criminal gang responsible for kidnappings and racketeering from 2015 to 2017. The police reportedly found explosives, weapons, and a machine gun during searches linked to the gang’s activities...

Mohammad al-Hindi, deputy secretary general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, says any peacekeeping or "stabilization force" in Gaza must be authorized by a UN Security Council resolution — not by US President Donald Trump’s wishes.
“We support a Security Council–mandated force with clear, limited tasks — not one imposed unilaterally,” al-Hindi said in an interview on Sunday.
Its role, he insisted, should be “to separate the sides and monitor the ceasefire, like UNIFIL — not to police or occupy Gaza,” he said of the UN force created in March 1978 to confirm Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon.
The mandate must define its tasks, duration, and location. “What we see now is an attempt to circumvent this,” he stated.
The Islamic Jihad official warned against outside interference or meddling in internal Palestinian affairs.
“We reject any form of foreign guardianship or trusteeship under any name. Call it a technocratic authority, a peace administration, or a stabilization committee — if it’s foreign control, it’s still guardianship,” he added.
“We will not accept Tony Blair or anyone like him overseeing Gaza. That would be a new Balfour Declaration,” he said of the 1917 UK-led declaration that led to the illegal creation of the Israeli entity in the heart of Palestinian land...

(TrumpyBear got mad because Canada used his god-king's words against him, accurately no less. US President Donald Trump halted all trade negotiations with Canada earlier this week over an advert in which former President Ronald Reagan says tariffs "hurt every American".
The ad, sponsored by Canada's province of Ontario and released last week, features excerpts of an address Reagan gave in 1987 focusing on foreign trade.
Trump called the advert "FAKE" while The Ronald Reagan Foundation said it "misrepresents" the former president's address. Ontario later said it would stop running it so trade talks could resume.
While the minute-long advert only includes excerpts from the original, five-minute-long address, it does not alter Reagan's words. It does however alter the order in which he made the comments.
Below are the lines from the advert in italics, followed by an explanation of how they appear (indicated in bold) in the original address.
"When someone says, 'let's impose tariffs on foreign imports', it looks like they're doing the patriotic thing by protecting American products and jobs. And sometimes, for a short while it works, but only for a short time."
This is the opening line of the minute-long advert. The words have not been altered.
(Trump says he is both the president and Speaker of the House but he is neither. He's a puppet like every other vainglorious tin-pot dictator we put in power across the world to do the bidding of our 'national interests' Each of them thought they were something special, just like Trump does. It has been over a month since there has been a policy debate or vote on the House floor. Spending legislation is not being considered. Oversight hearings are on hold until further notice.
Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision to put the House on an indefinite hiatus that is now stretching into its second month while the government is shut down is the latest in a series of moves he has made that have diminished the role of Congress and shrunken the speakership at a critical moment.
It’s an approach born of political expedience that could have far-reaching consequences for an institution that has already ceded much of its power to President Trump. And Mr. Johnson, who without the president’s backing wields little influence over his own members, has chosen to make himself subservient to Mr. Trump, a break with many speakers of the past who sought in their own ways to act more as a governing partner with the president than as his underling.
“I’m the speaker and the president,” Mr. Trump has joked, according to two people who heard the remark and relayed it on the condition of anonymity because of concern about sharing private conversations with him.
Mr. Johnson has done little in recent weeks to contest the point...

You and the Nazis in Ukraine should be happy. BTW, did you know Zbigniew Brzezinski's Grand Chessboard is largely about curbing Russia's influence in the world and expanding NATO right to their doorstep... in Ukraine? Awesome work there Benji. You and EuroFascists are keeping Zbigniew's dream alive!)
David C. Hendrickson, in his article in Foreign Affairs on November 1, 1997, saw the core of the book as the ambitious strategy of NATO to move eastward to Ukraine's Russian border and vigorously support the newly independent republics of Central Asia and the Caucasus, which is an integral part of what Hendrickson said could be called a "tough love" strategy for the Russians. Hendrickson considers "this great project" to be problematic for two reasons: the "excessive expansion of Western institutions" could well introduce centrifugal forces into it; moreover, Brzezinski's "test of what legitimate Russian interests are" seems to be so strict that even a democratic Russia would probably "fail".[14]

“Secretary Rubio and Foreign Minister Lavrov had a productive call,” said a White House official granted anonymity to discuss the plans. “Therefore, an additional in-person meeting between the Secretary and Foreign Minister is not necessary, and there are no plans for President Trump to meet with President Putin in the immediate future.”

Nearly a year after the 2024 election, Democrats are still trying to figure out what went wrong. In the midst of this soul-searching, a new piece of advice has appeared: “Don’t say climate change.”
That’s the takeaway from a recent poll by the Searchlight Institute, a new Democratic think tank. Americans said they see climate change as a problem, but it’s rarely one of their top issues — voters in battleground states are more concerned with affordability and health care. But when asked which issue they think the Democratic Party prioritizes, climate change was number one.
This mismatch might explain, at least in part, why Democrats often get portrayed as out of touch. “Advocates and elected officials should understand that their messages are actively weakened by a focus on ‘climate’ over affordability and low energy prices, and that voters are looking for immediate help with rising costs rather than solutions to abstract problems,” Searchlight’s post about the polling said.
The results didn’t surprise Representative Sean Casten, an Illinois Democrat and longtime climate champion who’s been making the case that clean energy can lower electricity bills. Casten recently unveiled draft legislation called the Cheap Energy Agenda, along with Representative Mike Levin, a California Democrat...

Due to war. Due to war, Zelensky has shut down the government, canceled elections and is locking up not only opposition party members but also journalists.
'On March 3, 2022, the Criminal Code of Ukraine was supplemented by Article 436-2, titled "Justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants". Reports have revealed that the US was aware that the deadly Rafah explosion, which killed two Israeli soldiers, was caused by an Israeli bulldozer hitting unexploded ordnance (UXO), not by a Hamas operation.
Journalist Ryan Grim reported on Monday that, according to a source familiar with the matter, both the White House and the Pentagon knew the Rafah incident was the result of an Israeli settler bulldozer running over a UXO, contradicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that Hamas had attacked an Israeli tank.
Sources cited by Grim said that after the US administration confronted Israel with its findings, Netanyahu abruptly reversed his position and announced that crossings would reopen within hours. The Pentagon reportedly reached the same conclusion as the White House.
Journalist Curt Mills of The American Conservative also quoted a senior US administration official confirming that “Hamas did nothing. An Israeli tank hit an unexploded improvised explosive device (IED) that had probably been there for months.”
Following Sunday’s explosion, in yet another blatant breach of the ceasefire, Israeli forces launched a new wave of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, killing at least 15 civilians, including a journalist, in what observers described as an effort to justify renewed aggression...

Hamas’s armed wing denied any involvement in the incident, saying it had “no knowledge” of clashes there and reaffirming its commitment to the ceasefire agreement.
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, said Israel “continues to breach the agreement and fabricate flimsy pretexts to justify its crimes.”

Israeli Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has renewed calls for a full-scale military offensive on Gaza, warning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that continued restraint would jeopardize his government.
"I call on the prime minister to order the Israel [Occupation] Forces to fully resume combat operations in the sector with full force. The delusions that [the Palestinian Resistance] Hamas would change its ways or even adhere to the agreement it signed are proving, as expected, to be dangerous to our security. This neo-Nazi terrorist organization must be utterly destroyed, and the sooner, the better," Ben-Gvir said in a statement on Sunday.
His remarks came after Israeli military officials said militants in Rafah had fired sniper rounds and rocket-propelled grenades at Israeli positions, allegations that Hamas and the Al-Qassam Brigades have firmly denied. Reuters and other outlets report the Israeli strikes on Rafah were described by the army as a response to those alleged attacks, while Hamas reiterated that it was committed to the ceasefire and denied responsibility for the Rafah incidents.
Al-Qassam's denial deepens the attribution dispute. In a fresh statement issued Sunday, the brigades reaffirmed their "full commitment" to the ceasefire and said they have "no knowledge of any events or clashes taking place in the Rafah area," adding that communications with their remaining units in Rafah have been completely severed since hostilities resumed in March 2025. The group described Rafah as under Israeli control, a "red area", and said it could not account for incidents or fighters there...

The Israeli military has launched new aerial assaults on the Gaza Strip, marking the latest violation of the ceasefire agreement with the Hamas resistance movement that was expected to end the regime’s two-year-long genocidal war in Gaza.
Israeli media reported that the regime’s forces carried out airstrikes in southern Gaza’s Rafah following an alleged Hamas attack on occupation troops in the area.
The Resistance News Network Telegram channel reported that the Israeli strikes on Rafah were aimed at protecting members of a Tel Aviv-backed, Daesh-linked militia led by Yasser Abu Shabab, following a surprise attack by resistance fighters against the criminal gang.
The news network also reported an Israeli air raid east of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip, which killed two Palestinians and wounded several others.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Channel 12 said Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone call with War Minister Israel Katz and senior military officials to discuss the situation.
Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for a renewed Gaza genocide, writing “War!” in a one-word X post.
Senior Hamas official Izzat al-Risheq, however, emphasized that Hamas remains committed to the ceasefire deal.
“It is the occupation that continues to violate the ceasefire and provide excuses for its crimes,” he added. “Netanyahu’s attempt to evade his commitments is happening under pressure from his coalition of terror.”...

What is it about an insidious, long-term plan that causes commercial media to ignore what’s lying in plain sight?
With Congress at a standstill, the Republican-led House refusing to return to session, and the Senate unable to pass any bill to reopen the government, reporters seem stuck in a loop.
Coverage of a government shutdown typically focuses on counting days and political blame games. Politicians are described as being stuck in an “impasse” with party leaders attacking one another and workers and the economy facing uncertain “disruption” and “fallout.”
That’s been the media’s approach again this time, even as workers are screaming in every way they can that this isn’t your usual standoff.

Israeli forces have killed 11 members of a Palestinian family in Gaza, the deadliest single violation of the fragile ceasefire since it took effect eight days ago.
The attack happened on Friday evening when a tank shell was fired by Israeli forces at a civilian vehicle carrying the Abu Shaaban family in the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City, according to Gaza’s civil defence.
Seven children and three women were among those killed when the Israeli military fired on the vehicle as the family attempted to reach their home to inspect it, civil defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said in a statement.
“They could have been warned or dealt with differently,” Basal said, adding that “what happened confirms that the occupation is still thirsty for blood, and insists on committing crimes against innocent civilians.”
Hamas condemned what it called a “massacre” and said the family was targeted without justification. The group called on United States President Donald Trump and mediators to pressure Israel to respect the ceasefire agreement...

Millions of Americans across all 50 states are expected to march on Saturday in nationwide “No Kings” protests, denouncing what organizers call President Donald Trump’s increasingly authoritarian rule and demanding an end to federal overreach.
The demonstrations, scheduled for more than 2,700 locations from small towns to major cities, mark the second iteration of the No Kings coalition, which organized one of the largest protest days in modern US history this June. Organizers say Saturday’s events will be even larger, uniting people behind the message that “the United States has no kings.”
(Fake aid group, GHF, pulls up stakes and disbands just as soon as real aid agencies are now allowed back in Gaza. I guess if they can't kill starving Palestinians looking for food, there's no point in them being there anymore.)
(Remember, the GHF was supposed to take on the new role of prison guards at the work camps located in Gaza as they used Palestinians as cheap labor to build the Gaza 2035 plan. This was outlined in Trump's GREAT Trust scheme. But now it seems they are on the outs.)

The controversial US and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has confirmed it suspended operations in Gaza after the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas came into effect on 10 October.
Despite being funded until November, the organisation said its final delivery was on Friday.
The GHF has been heavily criticised after hundreds of Palestinians were killed while collecting food near its distribution sites. Witnesses say most were killed by Israeli forces.
Israel has regularly denied that its troops fired on civilians at or near the sites and the GHF has maintained that aid distribution at its sites has been carried out "without incident".
The group's northernmost aid distribution site, known as SDS4, was shut down because it was no longer in IDF-controlled territory, said a spokesman.
Satellite imagery revealed it was dismantled shortly after the 10 October ceasefire came into effect. Images show tyre tracks, disturbed earth and detritus strewn across the former compound...

A Turkish humanitarian aid ship carrying 900 tons of relief supplies for Gaza people has arrived at Egypt’s el-Arish Port, the nearest access point to the besieged Gaza, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced on Friday.
Coordinated by AFAD and supported by 17 nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), the vessel named ‘’Akdeniz’’ marks the 17th “Goodness Ship” sent to the region.
The ship departed from Mersin International Port on Oct. 14, after a farewell ceremony attended by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, asserting Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to supporting civilians in Gaza. Following prayers, the vessel set sail for Egypt, completing a three-day journey and legal clearance process before docking in el-Arish.
The supplies include baby formula, ready-to-eat meals, canned food and other basic necessities. The aid will be unloaded in coordination with AFAD and the Egyptian Red Crescent and then transported by land to Gaza...

'Acclaimed scholar & author Norman Finkelstein delivered a powerful and defiant address at UMass, Amherst, on Sept. 24, 2025. Speaking before a packed audience, Finkelstein tackled Israel's mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza; the long history of Israel’s brutal occupation, siege, and successive wars and atrocities in the Strip; the bipartisan complicity of U.S. political leaders, corporate media, and global institutions; the mounting McCarthyite crackdown on free speech, dissent, and academic freedom; and the need for a resurgent movement led by young people to reclaim free speech and renew democracy.'
In this talk, Norman Finkelstein is brutally honest... about himself. A little less so when it comes to the history of America and Israel interfering in Gaza and Palestine over the decades.
He talks about how somewhere around 2020... he just gave up. And I have to admit, I noticed that about him back then and chastised him for it.
He mentions how the Goldstein Report broke him, not the report itself, but Goldstein retracting it in 2011. And again, I have to admit feeling much the same way at the time.
Norman fails to mention Israel killing a founder of Hamas in 2005 just before they withdrew settlers from Gaza so they could position Fatah and the P.A. to win the election they forced on the people.
He forgets that we spent 24 million dollars on propaganda in the lead up to that election because we were sure we could convince the Palestinian people to vote against their interests and for Fatah.

Though Oct. 18's "No Kings" protests share a name with its predecessor, organizers are expecting an unmatched flood of people for what they believe will be the largest single day of protest in modern American history.
"The anger level is way higher" than it was in June for the last protests of the same name, said Public Citizen copresident Lisa Gilbert, one of the organizers. "It's not just policies we don't like … but it's also actual chipping away at democracy, at foundational rights and prerogatives that we all expect. … People are saying 'I've never been moved to action before, but now I feel like I have to.'”

United States President Donald Trump has threatened to break the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas if the Palestinian group continues to target gangs and alleged Israeli collaborators in Gaza.
“If Hamas continues to kill people in Gaza, which was not the Deal, we will have no choice but to go in and kill them,” Trump wrote in a social media post on Thursday. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The statement appears to signal an about-face from Trump, who earlier this week expressed support for Hamas’s crackdown on gangs in the Palestinian territory.
“They did take out a couple of gangs that were very bad, very, very bad gangs,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday. “And they did take them out, and they killed a number of gang members. And that didn’t bother me much, to be honest with you. That’s OK.”

In Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, a “Statement of Intent” document was signed. The significance of this document lies in the fact that it represents a “strong and joint declaration of will” with the participation of most countries in the region, as well as the attendance of Western leaders.
The document bears the signatures of U.S. President Donald Trump, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. These signatures carry the potential to pave the way for diplomatic progress aimed at bringing lasting peace.
Erdoğan, after stating that “it would be wrong to regard the agreement as a document that solves the Palestinian issue,” once again emphasized that the only solution lies in “the establishment of an independent, sovereign and territorially contiguous Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.”
The declaration sets out a general framework. It is not an agreement text that produces a lasting solution to the Israeli question. However, it is important in terms of creating pressure for the smooth advancement of the second and third phases of the Gaza Plan and for Israel to keep its promises...

Imagine if the people of the Soviet Union had never heard of communism. The ideology that dominates our lives has, for most of us, no name. Mention it in conversation and you’ll be rewarded with a shrug. Even if your listeners have heard the term before, they will struggle to define it. Neoliberalism: do you know what it is?
Its anonymity is both a symptom and cause of its power. It has played a major role in a remarkable variety of crises: the financial meltdown of 2007‑8, the offshoring of wealth and power, of which the Panama Papers offer us merely a glimpse, the slow collapse of public health and education, resurgent child poverty, the epidemic of loneliness, the collapse of ecosystems, the rise of Donald Trump. But we respond to these crises as if they emerge in isolation, apparently unaware that they have all been either catalysed or exacerbated by the same coherent philosophy; a philosophy that has – or had – a name. What greater power can there be than to operate namelessly?
'During a White House meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei on October 14, 2025, Donald Trump explicitly tied a U.S. financial lifeline to Argentina's political future. Trump stated that helping Milei and his "great philosophy" succeed was a primary motivation for the aid.
Speaking of Milei's free-market and right-wing platform, Trump said he was "just helping a great philosophy take over a great country". He also called Milei "MAGA all the way" and said he would not "waste our time" with Argentina if Milei's political opponents were to gain power.' Google AI

from the New York Times
The Trump administration moved forward on Thursday with its bailout of Argentina, making a direct purchase of pesos and finalizing terms of a $20 billion lifeline, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.
The terms and conditions of the economic support package were not announced, but Mr. Bessent said the funds would come in the form of a currency swap with Argentina’s central bank. Big global investors have been anxiously awaiting the details of the bailout, which critics have said will benefit wealthy fund managers at a time when American farmers are struggling and the U.S. government is shut down.
Officials from both countries spent the last four days racing to finalize terms of the bailout ahead of high-stakes legislative elections in Argentina later this month and a visit to Washington next week by President Javier Milei, Argentina’s libertarian leader who is a close ally of President Trump.
“Argentina faces a moment of acute illiquidity,” Mr. Bessent wrote on X. “The U.S. Treasury is prepared, immediately, to take whatever exceptional measures are warranted to provide stability to markets.”
The Treasury secretary added that American business leaders have told him that they want to deepen ties with Argentina and that the Trump administration will stand behind its Latin American ally.
But the administration’s decision to rescue Argentina’s economy is raising concerns about whether the real aim is to help rich investors whose bets on Argentina could falter if its economy sinks.

The Israeli military has killed at least six Palestinians throughout the Gaza Strip within less than 24 hours, despite Tel Aviv’s recent agreement on the implementation of the first phase of a ceasefire plan.
Palestinian health officials said the fatalities had been caused since Tuesday morning during aggression waged by the military against Gaza City and the coastal strip’s southern areas.
Five of the victims were killed in the city’s Shuja'iyya neighborhood after, what the military alleged was, their crossing the “Yellow-Line,” to which Israeli forces have reportedly withdrawn as part of the ceasefire.
The individuals were targeted by “an Israeli quadcopter, while they were inspecting their homes,” they noted.
Another was killed near the town of al-Fukhari, east of the city of Khan Yunis, as the forces struck “a group of young men,” the officials said, adding that one person had also been injured as a result of the live fire.
“There was also gunfire reported in the al-Tahlia area of Khan Yunis,” they stated, noting that the military had also shelled areas in the city of Jabalia in northern Gaza, accompanied by gunfire...
