US House passes $73bln budget plan for war on Iran funding

The US House of Representatives approved a $95 billion budget framework on Wednesday, with most of the funding earmarked for the Pentagon to fund the war against Iran, NDTV reported. The plan provides $73 billion for the armed forces and intelligence agencies, notably to fund operations linked to the war against Iran.

The measure was narrowly approved in a 216-214 vote and now heads to the Senate.

The budget package represents the party's last major legislative push before November's midterm elections, the outcome of which will determine whether the party retains its majority in Congress and thus continues to shape the remainder of President Donald Trump's second term.

The resolution, which for now is only a budget framework, would allow House Republicans, if it is approved by the Senate, to draft detailed legislation later in the summer. The aim would then be to try to pass it in the Senate by a simple majority using an expedited budget procedure, thereby bypassing the usual 60-vote threshold and Democratic opposition.

The plan also includes $12 billion in aid for farmers affected by President Trump's trade war. An additional $10 billion would go toward election-related programs as part of Trump's push to enact new nationwide voting restrictions while his broader "SAVE America Act" lacks enough support to proceed...

A sweeping report from the State Department on Cuba’s “sustained campaign of subversion” against the U.S. contains the names of more than 40 prominent American activists and elected officials, what appears to be the latest effort from Donald Trump’s administration to target left-leaning dissent.

The 100-page report claims Cuba’s government has “infiltrated the highest reaches” of U.S. government, “recruited and cultivated generations of American activists” and “backed an unprecedented wave of left-wing terrorism on American soil.” Cuba’s efforts have “turned America against itself,” according to the report, which approvingly cites Red Scare-era “blacklists” and the work of Rep. Joseph McCarthy.

The report — released days after the Trump administration’s summit on “political terrorism” and escalating efforts to investigate and prosecute left-leaning groups — goes on to directly name more than three dozen groups and political figures, including the Democratic Socialists of America, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Rep. The Pentagon Is Stealing From the Working Poor to Pay for War and Enrich Contractors

In an era of high prices for fuel, food, and housing, an extra $4,000 could make a lifesaving difference for many families. But instead, that’s what the average household had to shell out for the Pentagon last year.

That’s right: The average US taxpayer in 2025 had over $4,000 taken out of their paychecks to fund the Pentagon, according to the National Priorities Project at the Institute for Policy Studies. In the coming years, that amount is set to rise as Congress considers a $1.5 trillion war budget for 2027. 

For the growing number of working poor in the United States, that money can mean the difference between making rent or falling behind, or between being able to afford an emergency trip to the doctor or going without care.

Money directed to the Pentagon represents nothing but betrayal for many Americans. A large majority oppose our wars, especially the latest conflict in Iran. And roughly half of the Pentagon’s budget flows to for-profit contractors, fueling the billionaire (and now even trillionaire) class.

The person who lost SNAP and the farmer who lost their income alike will be asked to foot the bill for the $1.5 trillion war budget.

Take SpaceX, one of many companies built on government contracts funded by taxpayer dollars. Elon Musk’s company would not exist without US taxpayers. As early Tesla investor Ross Gerber put it, “There would not be (Tesla and SpaceX) if it weren’t for the government.”...

Yemeni Forces Announce Maritime Blockade on Saudi Arabia

Yemen’s Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, announced on Monday that its forces were imposing a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia, a move that came a week after the Saudis bombed the Sanaa International Airport in Yemen.

Ansar Allah military spokesman Yahya Saree said the blockade was a response to the long-standing Saudi blockade on Yemeni ports and seaports, which was eased under a 2022 ceasefire deal but was never fully lifted.

The Saudi strikes on the Sanaa airport were done to enforce the blockade and prevent a plane from landing that was carrying a Yemeni delegation that visited Iran for the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei...

Lebanon’s military starts ‘pilot zone’ takeover in south

The Lebanese army is set to take charge of security in three “pilot zone” villages in southern Lebanon, according to the United States.

The villages of Froun, Srifa and Zawtar al-Gharbiya were named by the US State Department on Monday as the first areas that will trial the implementation of the US-mediated framework agreement. 

Under the plan, the Israeli military is set to perform a phased retreat from the locations it occupies in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese military will then take over security arrangements and oversee the disarmament of the armed Hezbollah group.

“This milestone is a direct outcome of last week’s discussions between Israel and Lebanon in Rome,” the State Department said in a statement. It added that the US “will continue working closely with both parties to implement the Framework to a successful conclusion”.

Lebanon, Israel and the US agreed to the framework on June 26, after six rounds of face-to-face negotiations. However, Israel continues to carry out attacks in Lebanon as Hezbollah fires rockets into northern Israel...
