So Canada: Two years ago when I renewed my mortgage I knew this was coming. I tried to get ten years. The best I could get was 6.99. So I renewed for five years at 2.19. I'm not in a bad situation but many friends are looking at an extra 1500 to 2000 a month when they renew. The AVERAGE Canadian mortgage is 450k, many are between 600k and a cool million and prices aren't really falling because the only homes hitting the market were purchased in the last 18 months. Unless rates start falling in the next 12 to 18 months we are looking at an apocalyptic situation in Canada.
