Dancing with Snakes II

(archived from June 9, 2011)

by Scott Creighton

After a prolonged struggle, the people of Yemen finally rid themselves of their brutal and corrupt pro-Western dictator President Ali Abdullah Saleh.  President Obama responds by stepping up secret bombing missions in the country that we have not declared war on, attempting to crush the opposition while they are looking to restructure their nation in a more democratic fashion. In the meantime, Obama is hosting two other pro-Western dictators from Africa in the White House; President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon and Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.

A global revolution for the dignity of mankind is taking place right before our eyes and our fake liberal president of CHANGE is actively working to crush it as we speak.

Saleh has been in power for 21 having taken office in 1990.  He is a cruel dictator, living in the lap of luxury (most estimates put his family’s wealth to be in the billions) while the vast majority of the people of Yemen can barely pay for food and housing and in 2006 nearly 49% of the population was under the poverty level.  According to the CIA factbook, that number has not improved much over the years and is holding steady (they list a poverty rate of 45.2% for 2006 and the exact same poverty rate ever since).

48.8 per cent of Yemeni families live below the poverty line, and 17.6 per cent of families live with food poverty. Poverty is mainly found among the young, and 53 percent of poor people are children under 15″  IRIN

In an article I wrote in early January of 2010 called “Dancing With Snakes“, I addressed our special relationship with Yemen and what lies at the heart of it; money.

“Let’s not fool ourselves anymore, we aren’t going there to stop “al Qaeda” from lighting up more panty sparklers; we are going there to prop-up a failing corrupt regime who just happens to be “pro-Western”, “pro-business”, and deeply indebted to the World Bank and the IMF.  The Yemeni government is in deep trouble from all sides and they need to be bailed-out.  With all the money and resources at stake, the debauched Yemeni government is just “too big to fail”.  At least, that’s how Washington sees it.”

“… We are going to Yemen in order to save the snakes from the people they rob from and rule over: a self-appointed lifetime dictator and a massive new eight billion dollar Liquid Natural Gas pipeline that is partially owned by a long time Bush family friend, Ray L. Hunt.“  Scott Creighton

Ray Hunt has billions locked-up in Yemen oil and LNG production. He sits on the board of directors of Halliburton and he was a board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas for several years. If the rebels in the north and the secessionists in the south succeed in remaking Yemen into a real democracy, people like Ray Hunt and many others stand to loose billions. This is why President Obama used two cruise missiles in 2009 to try to murder the opposition leaders, but instead he simply succeeding in murdering 23 Yemeni children.

Notice the use of the old stand-by “9/11″ as justification for our attacks in Yemen.

“The acceleration of the American campaign in recent weeks comes amid a violent conflict in Yemen that has left the government in Sana, a United States ally, struggling to cling to power. Yemeni troops that had been battling militants linked to Al Qaeda in the south have been pulled back to the capital, and American officials see the strikes as one of the few options to keep the militants from consolidating power. “  New York Times

The funny thing is, in Dec. of 2009 when Obama launched two cruise missiles that killed 23 children, his target was in the NORTH. They were claiming that the rebels from the north were “associated” with al Qaeda through a U.S. citizen who just happened to be one of the guests in the White House just after 9/11. The extra-judicial assassination attempt of a U.S. citizen was yet another extension of the Obama “unitary executive” authorities which many of us complained about and protested during the Bush years only to watch in horror as the anti-war crowd yawned at these escalations under Obama.  Thus is the success of the “left cover” mandate.

But now our attacks are leveled at the secessionists in the south, and of course, they are “linked to al Qaeda” as well. Apparently all one has to do is use the words “linked to al Qaeda” and President Obama is free to inflict acts of terrorism with weapons of mass destruction all he wants. Ironically, the “rebels” his administration is supporting in the fake uprising in Libya really are linked to al Qaeda. But we aren’t supposed to remember that.

What is important in Yemen is to maintain the undemocratic authoritarian system because it is in that type of system that the all important “stability” is found. The stability of profit margins that is, not the stability of the people or their standard of living. In fact, those two are locked in a diametrically inverse relationship which is exactly what the Obama administration is looking to preserve in Yemen. And that is why we will continue to bomb “al Qaeda” linked people until we can put down the revolution in the north and break the back of the secessionist movement in the south.

While all of this is going on and the fake left is worrying about Anthony’s wiener, President Obama is rolling out the red carpet for a few more of the system’s star dictators from the African continent.

President Ali Bongo of Gabon is being honored with a visit to the White House today. His family has ruled over Gabon for decades much like the Duvalier regime’s “triangle of death:” in Haiti. Aside from stealing up to 25% of the GDP from the people of Gabon, here’s some more information on Gabon from Amnesty International:

stolen elections and murder of opposition leaders – “On 30 August 2009, Ali Ben Bongo won a hotly disputed election marred by violence against opposition party members and widespread allegations of electoral fraud” “Gabonese human rights activists and opposition party members claim the Gabonese military killed several dozen people in the city of Port-Gentil, an opposition stronghold, following the announcement of the election results on 2 September 2009.”

arbitrary arrest and torture – “torture and repeated severe beatings are routinely used on detainees, usually in order to obtain confessions. Arbitrary arrests without warrants are common, as is lengthy detention without charge or trial. Mandated fair trial procedures are only irregularly observed.”

President Obama met yesterday with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.

This is what the State Department says about human rights issues in Nigeria:

“According to the U.S. Department of State,[1] the most significant human rights problems are: extrajudicial killings and use of excessive force by security forces; impunity for abuses by security forces; arbitrary arrests; prolonged pretrial detention; judicial corruption and executive influence on the judiciary; rape, torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment of prisoners, detainees and suspects; harsh and lifethreatening prison and detention center conditions; human trafficking for the purpose of prostitution and forced labor; societal violence and vigilante killings; child labor, child abuse and child sexual exploitation; female genital mutilation (FGM); domestic violence; discrimination based on sex, ethnicity, region and religion; restrictions on freedom of assembly, movement, press, speech and religion; infringement of privacy rights; and the abridgement of the right of citizens to change the government.” Wikipedia

When Noam Chomsky recently stated that the U.S. will do anything to keep real democracies from developing as a result of the Arab Spring, he was absolutely correct.

“Well, plainly, the U.S. and its allies are not going to want governments which are responsive to the will of the people. If that happens, not only will the U.S. not control the region, but it will be thrown out. So that’s obviously an intolerable result.” Noam Chomsky

By propping up brutal dictators in favor of  “stability”, we have supported (and committed acts of ) cruelty, murder, torture, rape, slavery, theft, corruption, exploitation, human trafficking, child slavery and sexual exploitation, and every measure of fascist oppression known to man. We have done so to the point that the United States is now synonymous with such things; this is what we represent to most of the rest of the world. Of course Obama can’t allow real democracies to spring up across the Middle East and Africa. Our businesses and banking interests would be tossed out in a matter of days just like what happened in Cuba.

As the global revolution rolls on throughout the Arab world, Europe, and Africa, a revolution for real democracy and freedom from the kind of “stability” globalist nations have been imposing on them for decades, here in America, the dance goes on without us. Our president of “CHANGE”, our Peace Prize “winning” leader, has chosen different partners for this historic tango. Here in America, Barack Obama has clearly chosen to keep dancing with the snakes. No one should be surprised at this point. It is what he was meant to do all along.
