Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said his country "stands ready" to recognize the sovereignty of Palestine and its full membership in the United Nations.
The news came after a meeting with his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez, who, on Friday, embarked on a European tour to convince more nations to recognize an independent Palestinian state."The question is at what moment and in what setting to (recognize Palestine) in order to support the process towards peace in the region. And what this meeting today has made clear is that we stay very closely coordinated between Madrid and Oslo,” said Store at a joint press conference.
Sanchez said on Friday that Spain wants to recognize Palestine "as soon as possible,” leveraging the move as a way to gain momentum for a definitive peace process.
