Missed a very big one yesterday mentioning OCT6/7, which has been VERY active past 70+ years and in fact seems to have usurped by pre-empting their fave blood-letting date Sanhedrin OCT31!
ReplyDeleteTurns out in 1955 OCT6/7 the first of the French Ouragan jet fighter/bomber were delivered under the contract in 1954.
So that's 68 years ago.
Equivalent event this age now was of course delivery of those F-35 flying fat turds now in use. I think that happened 2-3 years ago.
Ouragan 70+ years ago was they called a stovepipe design single engine, and this F-35 now is....single engine!
However, there have been advancements in metallurgy, fully computerized fuel delivery, etc. so the price has advanced you could say commensurately.
Only a single Ouragan squadron equipped with 22 aircraft was operational at the outbreak of Operation "Kadesh," Israel's part in the 1956 Suez Crisis. The plans drawn up by the IAF before the crisis had called for the Ouragans to attack air fields in the Sinai in order to destroy as many Arab aircraft on the ground as possible.
