My son's girlfriend got a fine because she didn't vote in the last election (for those not from Oz, it's a fineable offense to NOT vote here).
She didn't receive the fine notice from the government (change of address issue), so they went ahead and suspended her driver's license. The fine was increased - and here's the fun part - THE NOTICE SAID SHE COULD ONLY PAY IN CASH OR BY CHECK.
Gotta be grateful at this stage for small victories.
