Iran says won’t strike neighbors unless attacked from them

Iran will not target its neighbors unless attacks are launched from them during the war with Israel and the United States, President Masoud Pezeshkian said Saturday.

"I must apologize on my own behalf and on behalf of Iran to the neighboring countries that were attacked by Iran," said Pezeshkian in a speech broadcast on state TV.

"The interim leadership council agreed yesterday that no more attacks will be made on neighboring countries and no missiles will be fired unless an attack on Iran originates from those countries. I think we should solve this through diplomacy," he said.

The leadership council has been leading Iran since Israel and the United States launched strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, killing the Islamic republic's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and triggering a regional conflict.

Iran has since responded with missile and drone strikes on Israel and U.S. interests in regional countries, mainly in the Gulf.

Pezeshkian is among three members of an interim leadership council that has been in charge of Iran since Khamenei's killing.

He also dismissed U.S.-Israeli demands to surrender, saying that would “never happen.”

Iran, Russia to sign partnership agreement ‘in near future’: Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has announced that his country will sign a strategic partnership agreement with Iran “in the near future.”

“The treaty is being prepared for signing in the near future,” Lavrov said at a Eurasian security summit in Belarus on Thursday.

“It will affirm both parties’ commitment to closer defense cooperation and collaboration for regional and global peace and security,” he added.

His remarks came as Russian President Vladimir Putin last month approved a proposal forwarded by the country’s foreign ministry for the signing of a strategic partnership agreement with Iran.

Last week, Putin invited Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Russia to ink a comprehensive cooperation agreement.

Pezeshkian: US, Europe support ‘savage’ Israeli regime, stay silent on genocide

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has slammed the United States and European countries for supporting the “savage” regime of Israel which is committing massacres in Gaza and across West Asia.

“The reality we are facing in the region is [the occurrence of] back-to-back incidents,” Masoud Pezeshkian said in an event on Tuesday, in an apparent reference to the Israeli war on Gaza that has expanded to Lebanon.

The Iranian president slammed the US and European countries, which claim to be advocates of human rights, for supporting the “savage” Israeli regime which “doesn’t adhere to any rule" and continues with its campaign of killing.

“These self-proclaimed advocates of human rights tell us: ‘Why do you execute a murderer?’, this is while they should be asked: ‘Why don’t you say anything about the massacre of women and children?”
