Veterans For Peace Condemns Marco Rubio’s Threats Against Cuba and Against US Peace and Solidarity Activists

by Gerry Condon from AntiWar

Veterans For Peace has issued a strong condemnation of Marco Rubio’s McCarthyite report, Cuba, the Capital of 21st Century Communism, which was released by the State Department on July 20. The 100-page document charges Cuba with interfering in the internal affairs of the United States, while accusing U.S. peace and solidarity activists of being foreign agents of Cuba.

“Talk about turning things on their head,” responded Veterans For Peace. “It is the U.S. that has waged an economic war against Cuba for 64 years with a blockade that prevents it from normal trade relations with the U.S. and other countries, stunts its economic development, and denies it access to medicines and other essentials.

“It is the U.S. CIA that organized a failed Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in 1961, setting the stage for the 1962 Cuban missile crisis that almost led to a nuclear war. It is the U.S. that is currently enforcing a deadly oil embargo on Cuba, and it is the U.S. president and secretary of state who are openly threatening a U.S. military invasion of Cuba. What has Cuba ever done to the U.S.? Cuba is being punished for declaring its independence from U.S. imperialism and for attempting to develop a socialist economic model that is not based on exploitation and profiteering.

“We reject the Trump administration’s sudden return to “anti-communism” as a means of undermining the credibility of its political opponents — whether from the Democratic Party or actual left-wing organizations. If this is an attempt to intimidate those who are organizing for a just and peaceful world, it will not work. We will not be intimidated. If Trump’s and Rubio’s sudden obsession with “communists” and “political terrorists” is telegraphing their intention for a clampdown on dissent in the U.S., we take this very seriously.

“As veterans and active duty military, we swore an oath to “defend the U.S. Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic.”  We take this oath very seriously — more so than ever as the domestic enemies of our democracy ominously rear their ugly heads.  We will resist.

“Veterans For Peace will not be intimidated. We stand in solidarity with Cuba and with all those who struggle for human rights and democracy in the U.S. We will support active-duty military members who refuse to participate in an illegal invasion of Cuba. We also encourage service members to refuse illegal orders to support racist ICE raids or to suppress our First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and assembly in the U.S.”

Veterans For Peace calls for an end to the 64-year-old US blockade of Cuba, and end to threats against dissent in the U.S., for the abolition of ICE and the release of all who are being held in ICE prisons.

Cuban Lights Expose Darker Shades of Blue

by Scott Creighton

Watched Thom Hartmann for about 7 minutes yesterday. He finally figured out the Project 2025 guys and the Trump regime have been demoing the economy on purpose so they can remake the government in their neoliberal/free market image (like we have done to countless nations over the past 70 years or so)

Was going to post his video until he started going off on evil Russia. Said Trump was out of his mind for siding with Russia over glorious Zelensky and the Nazis of Ukraine.

Nazis.

Of course... keep in mind... Hartmann knows we regime changed the country under ObamaGod and Ukraine is one of the most corrupt governments in the world second only to Trump and just barely ahead of Milei in Argentina.

But that doesn't matter. ObamaGod did it so it must be OK.

However... Trump turned off the lights in Cuba so he could send in the Chicago Boys and try to chop up the nation and hand it over to his country club Epstein-class buddies while Russia... well... Russia turned the lights back on.

In the end, Hartmann, like Bernie Sanders, is paid to promote neoliberal regime change operations to the alt-left like the ones in Ukraine and Russia and even by extension, Cuba and Venezuela.

Oh Well That Makes Sense

by Scott Creighton

Over and over again this comes up for a vote in the United Nations and over and over again it's pretty much the same story. I wonder why.

'The Jewish mob, led by Meyer Lansky and closely tied to the Italian-American Mafia, was forced out of Cuba during the 1959 Cuban Revolution. When Fidel Castro’s forces seized power, they nationalized hotels and casinos, causing Lansky to lose his estimated $7 million investment and fleeing the island immediately'

Oh well, that makes sense.

Rep. McGovern Introduces Bill to Repeal U.S. Blockade on Cuba

(Meanwhile... U.S. House Blocks Resolution to Bar Trump From Using Military Force in Venezuela )

from TeleSur

On Thursday, Jim McGovern, a Democratic U.S. representative for Massachusetts’ 2nd Congressional District, introduced a bill to eliminate the legal basis of the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

“I introduced a bill to repeal the U.S. embargo against Cuba. For over six decades, the U.S. has embraced failed, obsolete, Cold War thinking toward Cuba,” said the lawmaker, who is also a senior member of the House Rules Committee, a leading anti-hunger advocate and co-chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission.

“Our 60-plus-year embargo has been ineffective and counterproductive — it hurts the Cuban people, it strengthens hardliners, it gives rise to more refugees, and it undercuts our standing in the world,” he added.

“We have tried the same thing for over 60 years — and it has failed for over 60 years. Let’s try something different — let’s open things up! Let’s lift the embargo, giving U.S. businesses, entrepreneurs, tourists and universities more access.”

“Let’s push for freedom and democracy through diplomacy and engagement. Let’s let Cubans who live on the island decide their own future — not Marco Rubio or Donald Trump,” McGovern concluded.

His bill, titled the United States-Cuba Trade Act (H.R. 7521), seeks to repeal the statutory basis for the U.S. embargo on Cuba. To that end, McGovern’s proposal would:

Mexico sends over 800 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba

(Imagine if anyone cared enough about Palestine to use their own military vessels to get aid and supplies to the people of Gaza. Wouldn't that be nice?)

from AA

Mexico has sent more than 800 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba, reaffirming its longstanding policy of solidarity with Latin American nations, the country's Foreign Ministry said Sunday.

Two Mexican Navy logistical support vessels, the Papaloapan and Isla Holbox, departed from the port of Veracruz carrying more than 814 tons of provisions intended for the people of Cuba following instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The Papaloapan is transporting 536 tons of essential food items as well as hygiene products, while the Isla Holbox is carrying over 277 tons of powdered milk.

The vessels are expected to arrive in Cuba within four days.

More than 1,500 tons of powdered milk and beans remain to be sent, it added.

"Through these actions, the Government of Mexico reaffirms the humanistic principles and spirit of solidarity that guide it, and its commitment to international cooperation among peoples, especially with those who require humanitarian assistance in situations of emergency and vulnerability. Cuba and Mexico are sister nations, heirs to a long history of solidarity that we honor today," it said.

Cuba files declaration to join S Africa's genocide case against Israel at UN's top court

from PressTV

The United Nations' top court says Cuba has officially declared its intention to join South Africa’s case against Israel at the tribunal over the regime's genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement released on Monday, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced that Cuba had filed a declaration of intervention in the proceedings against Israel for Genocide Convention violations under Article 63 of the Statute of The Hague-based court.

“Cuba, invoking Article 63 of the Statute of the Court, filed in the Registry of the Court a declaration of intervention in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip,” it said...

Israel a ‘terrorist state’ – Cuba

 from RT

Israel is a terrorist state committing genocide in Gaza, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on social media on Tuesday. He was commenting on the ongoing military operation that West Jerusalem launched against Hamas in retaliation following the militant group’s deadly October 7 surprise attack, in which approximately 1,200 were killed in the south of the country.

The Caribbean nation, which has no formal diplomatic relations with Israel, has been highly critical of Israel’s war on the militants, which maintain de facto rule over Gaza. During the military operation, large swathes of the enclave have been devastated and more than 20,400 Palestinians have been killed, according to local officials.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) Diaz-Canel called Israel’s actions “a humiliation for all humanity” and lamented that the nation was getting away with it.

“Cuba, which will never be among the indifferent, raises its voice for Palestine again and again,” he added...
