Quarter of a million join Nakba Day rally as far-right protest also takes place in central London

Organizers said that around quarter of a million people gathered in central London on Saturday to attend a march marking the 78th anniversary of the Nakba, which coincided with a separate protest organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

The Metropolitan Police, which deployed over 4,000 officers to police the marches in what it described as an "unprecedented" public order operation, announced that it had made 31 arrests in relation to the protests by 4.30pm. It did not specify which protest those arrested had attended.

The Nakba Day march is an annual demonstration organised by a coalition of groups, including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, commemorating the expulsion of more than 750,000 Palestinians from their land and the killing of over 13,000 others by Zionist militias to make way for the creation of Israel in 1948.

Meanwhile, Robinson's Unite the Kingdom protest was billed as a "people-led assembly focused on unity, awareness, and collective responsibility".

In leaked audio, ex-Israeli military intel chief justifies killing tens of thousands in Gaza -‘they need a Nakba once in a while’

In leaked comments that were aired on Channel 12, Israel’s most-watched mainstream news channel, Israel’s former head of the Military Intelligence Directorate, Maj. Gen. (res.) Aharon Haliva has become the latest member of the Israeli establishment to make the case that it is necessary that Israel carry out a genocide in Gaza. 

“The fact that there are already 50,000 killed in Gaza is necessary and required for future generations. OK, you humiliated, slaughtered, murdered – all of that is true. The price, as I already said before the war, for everything that happened on the 7^th of October [is that] for every one [Israeli killed] on October 7, 50 Palestinians need to die,” Haliva says in the leak. “It doesn’t matter now [whether it’s] children, I’m not speaking from revenge, I’m speaking about it as a message for the coming generations, there is no choice – they need a Nakba once in a while in order to feel the price. There is no choice, in this crazy neighborhood”. 

Although it is not dated, the leak is presumably from late March this year, since Haliva refers to “the fact that there are already 50,000 killed in Gaza”. Haliva had held the second highest rank in the Israeli military in a unit that works alongside the Shin Bet and is responsible for making future risk assessments. Recognizing Palestine could be one of Trump’s most pro-Israel moves yet

(The US recognizing Palestine as a state would not only be historic and tremendously beneficial for Palestinians and starving Gazan children but it would also, quite possibly, save Israel... from themselves. 

Israel will never see the messianic Zionists' Greater Israel goal accomplished. 

They will shed blood and reputation and trust along the way to their ultimate failure... more blood, reputation and trust I should say. 

Eventually the crazies and the normies inside Israel will clash as world opinions of the Jewish State tanks. Civil war for the soul of Israel.

This is the path they are on and their current leaders can't see the forest for the trees because they understand it is their last shot at their messianic fevered dreams. 

And these people don't care who pays the price, Palestinians or Israelis. 

If Trump were to recognize Palestinian statehood, the world turns, aid pours in, and Israel will be forced to shelve the crazies for another 77 years while they, always focused on the PR of the day, will have to bring to power more moderate voices who will do all they can to be SEEN as trying to help and make up for the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the last 17 months (and 77 years)  This will enable the Arab states to recognize Israel as a neighbor and to normalize relations with them. Israel will prosper. Israeli businesses will thrive. All while the Zionists seethe.

Media reports are increasingly suggesting that President Donald Trump may announce US recognition of a Palestinian state during his upcoming visit to the Middle East.

The White House is preparing to unveil a plan that would support the establishment of a Palestinian state – explicitly excluding Hamas, The Media Line reports, citing a Gulf diplomatic source. Such a move, the source claims, could dramatically shift the regional balance of power and pave the way for new normalization agreements between Israel and the Arab states.

The visit, scheduled from May 13 to 16, will include official stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates – countries with significant influence on both the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the region’s economic and energy dynamics. Notably, Saudi Arabia was also Trump’s first foreign destination during his initial term in office, underscoring its continued strategic importance.

A key component of the trip will be the US–Gulf Cooperation Council summit, set for May 14 in Riyadh, where Trump is expected to outline a renewed American vision for the region. In addition to security and diplomacy, the summit will cover trade, investment, and potential economic agreements, including possible tariff exemptions for American goods in the region as part of broader investment deals.

Analysts believe that if Trump does recognize a Palestinian state, it will not only mark a diplomatic milestone but also serve as a catalyst for expanding the Abraham Accords, the US-brokered normalization deals between Israel and several Arab nations which were introduced 2020. Palestinian factions warn of renewed Nakba amid Israeli aggression

On the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, Palestinian factions declared that the Palestinian people are facing a renewed Nakba amid the genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation against the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. They emphasized that national unity and steadfast resistance remain the only path to thwart displacement and liquidation plans.

In a statement, Hamas affirmed that the unity between the Palestinian people and their resistance has already derailed numerous Israeli projects, stressing, “No new Nakba will be imposed, and Gaza’s steadfastness will not be broken.”

The movement reiterated that “the occupation has no legitimacy over any part of Palestine,” and pledged that resistance “will continue until liberation and return.”

Hamas also called for unified Palestinian ranks and a shared national strategy of struggle, rejecting any efforts to dismantle UNRWA or erase the refugee cause. It reaffirmed its commitment to the right of return and condemned all normalization projects...

After a brief respite Israel has resumed its genocidal onslaught in Gaza. As well as increasing its attacks on Palestinian in the West Bank, Israel is again targeting workers in Gaza. Journalists, medical staff, and aid workers are all being killed at an unprecedented rate. Meanwhile, backed by Donald Trump, Israel is openly threatening the full ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza. 

We must call for an end to 77 years of Nakba – (Catastrophe in Arabic) the systematic ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their land, started in 1948. We must continue to demand a permanent ceasefire, an end to all arms sales to Israel, and justice for the Palestinian people.

Tens of thousands of trade unionists in Britain have joined the huge national protests in London and elsewhere and have been leading an array of solidarity actions. In September 2024, TUC Congress unanimously passed a motion demanding an end to all licenses for arms traded with Israel, meeting international law, reaffirming the need to advance a strategy of boycott, divestment and sanctions, and recognising that all Palestinians are subjected to a system of oppression that is recognised internationally as apartheid. 77 years after the Nakba: History repeats itself in Gaza with a new ‘catastrophe’

A somber cloud hangs over the besieged and war-torn Gaza Strip as Palestinians mark 77 years since the Nakba – Arabic for “catastrophe” – a term that echoes the deep scars of mass displacement and the enduring legacy of a people that were uprooted from their land.

May 15 is observed globally as Nakba Day, or the “Day of Catastrophe,” commemorating the mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians in 1948. The Nakba marks a large-scale expulsion that accompanied the creation of the Zionist entity, carried out with the support of Western powers.

And nothing has changed all these years. It has only become worse, especially since October 7, 2023.

The descendants of those forcibly expelled – millions of Muslims and hundreds of thousands of Christians – now live across six continents. Yet, the Zionist regime continues to deny them both compensation and the internationally recognized right of return.

The catastrophic events of 77 years ago bear striking resemblance to the ongoing Israeli-American genocidal campaign against Gaza, which has stretched on for nearly two years...

Palestinians mark 76 years of Nakba amid larger catastrophe in Gaza

As the Palestinians prepare to mark on Wednesday 76 years of their mass expulsion from their homeland, the human calamity of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza is a grim reminder of their continued struggle.

Palestinians refer to it as the Nakba, Arabic for catastrophe. Some 700,000 Palestinians – a majority of the prewar population – fled or were driven from their homes before and during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war that followed Israel's establishment.

After the war, Israel refused to allow them to return because it would have resulted in a Palestinian majority within its borders. Instead, they became a seemingly permanent refugee community that now numbers some 6 million, with most living in slum-like urban refugee camps in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

In Gaza, the refugees and their descendants make up around three-quarters of the population...

The Nakba is noted as the mass, violent exodus of approximately 800,000 Palestinians.

It was forced by Zionist militias between 1947 and 1949. However, Palestinians know the Nakba never ended.

This perpetuation of violence can most recently be seen through the ongoing genocide of my people in Gaza, where the US and Israel are allied in a machine of destruction and death, resulting in almost 35,000 people being massacred so far, thousands stuck under the rubble, and most of Gaza’s 2.3 million people displaced.

The experience of the Palestinian diaspora, although nothing in comparison to the active ethnic cleansing and genocide being experienced by Palestinians in Gaza, has been amplified in difficulty in the past months. College campuses, falsely paraded as the vanguard of free speech and debate in this country, have become a hotbed for repression of Palestinian activism.

In October, a peaceful sit-in for divestment from this genocide at my school, University of Massachusetts Amherst, was met with the arrests of 56 students and one staff member.

Javier Reyes, the university’s chancellor, chose to level wanton university code of conduct sanctions on these students, even though previous sit-ins were not punished with sanctions even after arrests, and even still after the criminal charges were dropped...
