The Trump family quietly signed a $500 million cryptocurrency deal with a powerful Abu Dhabi royal just days before Donald Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.

A previously undisclosed agreement that sent nearly $200 million to Trump-linked entities and was followed months later by the US granting the same foreign power sweeping access to sensitive artificial intelligence technology.

The deal, involving Trump-backed crypto firm World Liberty Financial, was signed on January 16, 2025, by Eric Trump and executives tied to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's national security adviser and brother of the country's president.

The previously undisclosed deal was confirmed by the Wall Street Journal, company documents and others familiar with the matter. 

The transaction made a foreign government official the largest shareholder in a company tied to the US president. The move is unprecedented in modern American politics, raising questions about conflicts of interest and the influence of foreign powers.

The buyer was Aryam Investment 1, a company controlled by Sheikh Tahnoon, one of the most powerful figures in the Middle East. 

The agreement granted Aryam a 49 percent  ownership stake in World Liberty for $500 million - with $250 million paid immediately, and $187 million of that first installment directed to Trump family entities, according to documents reviewed by the Journal.

Tahnoon, who serves as the UAE's national security adviser and oversees a sprawling business empire worth more than $1.3 trillion, has long been viewed with suspicion inside Washington's intelligence and national security circles...

A five-point summary outlining U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a Gaza ceasefire was delivered to Hamas by mediators over the weekend. Trump has characterized the ultimatum as the final offer to the Palestinian resistance movement before Israel accelerates its campaign to enact the total destruction of the Gaza Strip.

The brief, approximately 100-word document, presented in Arabic and obtained by Drop Site, is titled, “The Main Proposal.” The full text and English translation is at the bottom of this article.

The outline, which contains sparse details, states that, within 48 hours of accepting the ultimatum, Hamas and other resistance groups would release all Israeli captives, living and deceased. In return, Israel would free an unspecified number of “Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life and detainees from Gaza” within 48 hours.

Netanyahu hinges coalition survival on Gaza reoccupation, reports say

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pressing ahead with plans to reoccupy Gaza, with Israeli media reporting that failure to launch the offensive could trigger the collapse of his governing coalition as far-right ministers threaten to walk away.

The daily Maariv cited an unnamed military source saying Netanyahu is "insisting on moving forward with the offensive Gideon's Chariots 2."

The source added: "He understands that without the operation, he will not be able to maintain government cohesion and it will fall apart."

Far-right ministers, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, have threatened to withdraw from Netanyahu's coalition if he agrees to any deal to halt the ongoing Israeli military offensive in Gaza, now approaching 23 months.

Regarding a potential hostage release deal, the military source said Israel was "negotiating according to the plan of (US Middle East envoy) Steve Witkoff two weeks ago to release some captives without ending the war."

Netanyahu orders Israeli army to conquer all of Gaza

The meeting was reportedly to choose between ending the war in favor of ceasefire talks or expanding it to reoccupy the entire Strip. According to initial unconfirmed reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has briefed “friendly journalists” that he has ordered the Israeli army to “conquer Gaza” in the face of opposition from the army’s Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir. Netanyahu’s office reportedly told N12: “The decision has been made — Israel is going to conquer the Gaza Strip.”

The ceasefire was supported by Israeli army officials, while the decision to reoccupy Gaza is favored by the hardline ministers like National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who are key allies in Prime Minister Netanyahu’s rightwing coalition and are credited with playing an influential role in sustaining the ongoing Israeli onslaught.

According to the Israeli army’s radio on Monday, Zamir had demanded “clarity” from the Israeli government regarding the future of the war effort, reportedly discouraging the reoccupation of Gaza, believing it would “drain” the Israeli army.

Zamir’s message to the cabinet came amid Israel’s announcement last week of the end of its latest military offensive in Gaza, dubbed Operation Gideon’s Chariots, while one of Israel’s cabinet members, Zeev Elkin, threatened to “annex parts of Gaza” as a “pressure tool” against Hamas in ceasefire negotiations.

The message was also issued following the visit of U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff to Israel and Gaza last week. Trump warns Netanyahu on Iran talks, pushes Gaza ceasefire plan

US President Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday that he had issued a warning to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the previous week, advising him against taking any actions that might interfere with the nuclear negotiations involving Iran.

"I told him this would be inappropriate to do right now because we're very close to a solution now," Trump told reporters, noting that "That could change at any moment."

A senior aide informed reporters that the Trump administration is preparing to complete a new written agreement as early as Wednesday, which could serve as the foundation for a possible ceasefire arrangement in Gaza between "Israel" and Hamas.

Hamas, Witkoff agree on permanent Gaza cease-fire

Palestinian resistance group Hamas announced Tuesday that it has reached a preliminary agreement with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff on a general framework for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza.

"We have reached an agreement on a general framework with Witkoff that ensures a permanent ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, and the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid," it said in a statement.

The proposed framework includes a permanent halt to hostilities, a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the establishment of a professional committee to administer the enclave, and the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid, Anadolu Agency (AA) cited Hamas as saying. The group said the deal also included the release of 10 Israeli hostages, the exchange of several bodies with an agreed number of Palestinians held captive by Israel.

Hamas says it has accepted a proposal forwarded by the US’s regional envoy, which reportedly includes withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.

“We have accepted Steve Witkoff (the American envoy)’s proposal to reach a ceasefire and the withdrawal of hostile forces,” a member of the Gaza-based resistance movement’s Political Bureau, Basem Naim, said on Tuesday.

“We are awaiting the occupation’s response,” the Palestinian official added.

Naim, however, did not comment on the details of the proposal.

Earlier this month, Naim had noted that Witkoff had personally assured the group that the United States would pressure the Israeli regime to end its near-total siege on the Gaza Strip and permit humanitarian access.

The envoy, according to Naim, had said the US would start applying the pressure within two days of Hamas’s releasing American-Israeli trooper Edan Alexander, whom the group handed over on May 12.

According to the Hamas member, Witkoff had also promised that US President Donald Trump would make a public call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and for negotiations aimed at achieving a “permanent ceasefire.”

U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are again leading the discussions, which this time include a technical-level meeting between experts from both sides.

The talks are aimed at striking a new deal that would stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons – an objective Tehran denies pursuing – in return for relief from crippling sanctions.
