Very little-known battle one of frantic thousands of events there compressed into days right after Italy got an armistice mid-1943 from the allies.
Better known incident of that time SEP9/1943 was when the Italian med fleet sailed under Brit promise not to be bombed to surrender to them. NFW was Germany going to allow those ships to be turned over to the allies.
Germans used their bomber-launched, radio-guided fin controlled modified bomb, with a tail flare to help see it so it could be guided from 3 miles up to the ship. To spectacular effect as they hit the flagship Roma battleship and blew it up. Many vids that one, here's one:
