Camp Mystic’s owner warned of floods for decades. Then the river killed him

from CNN

Dick Eastland warned for decades about the hidden dangers of the beautiful but volatile Guadalupe River, a peril he saw firsthand while running his family’s youth camp alongside its banks.

Eastland saw floods damage Camp Mystic again and again – and his pregnant wife was even airlifted to a hospital while the camp in central Texas was cut off by floodwaters.

He successfully pushed for a new flood warning system after 10 children at a nearby camp were swept to their deaths in 1987, and in recent years served on the board of the local river authority as it supported renewed efforts to improve warnings on the Guadalupe.

“The river is beautiful,” Eastland told the Austin American-Statesman in 1990. “But you have to respect it.”

But after 27 people were killed at Camp Mystic in last week’s cataclysmic flooding – along with Eastland himself, who died while trying to rescue his young campers – the scale of the tragedy highlights potential missed opportunities by Camp Mystic’s owners and government officials to better mitigate those risks.

About a decade after it was installed, the warning system Eastland had championed in the late ‘80s became antiquated and broken. The river authority ultimately shut it down in 1999, saying it was “unreliable with some of the system’s stations not reporting information,” according to an article in the Kerrville Daily Times.

Yet periodic attempts to adopt a more modern flood-monitoring system, including one with warning sirens that might have alerted campers last week, repeatedly failed to gain traction – stalled by low budgets, some local opposition and a lack of state support...

Billionaires mobilize in attempt to crush Mamdani’s mayoral bid: WSJ

from al Mayadeen English

New York’s financial and political elite are scrambling to halt the momentum of Zohran Mamdani, the democratic socialist who stunned the establishment by winning the Democratic primary for mayor. According to The Wall Street Journal, Wall Street donors, real estate magnates, and political veterans are pooling millions into independent expenditure groups designed to stop Mamdani's advance ahead of the general election.

A newly registered super PAC, New Yorkers for a Better Future Mayor 25, has already secured at least $20 million to fuel a multi-platform anti-Mamdani campaign. Backed by major figures including hedge fund manager Bill Ackman and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the effort marks the clearest sign yet of panic among New York’s donor class.

“How do we stop this guy?” asked former NYPD officer and conservative commentator Bo Dietl, who is working with Giuliani to raise another $10 million. Giuliani has not made any public comment...

Trump imposes 35% tariff on Canada effective Aug. 1

(TrumpyBear trying ANYTHING to distract from his Epstein betrayal.)

from al Mayadeen English

US President Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that his administration plans to implement a 35% tariff on Canadian imports, set to take effect beginning August 1.

"It is a Great Honor for me to send you this letter in that it demonstrates the strengths and commitments of our Trading Relationship, and the fact that the United States of America has agreed to continue working with Canada, despite Canada having financially retaliated against the United States," Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.

"As you will recall, the United States imposed Tariffs on Canada to deal with our Nation's Fentanyl crisis, which is caused, in part, by Canada's failure to stop the drugs from pouring into our country," he stated in a letter addressed to Canada's new Prime Minister, Mark Carney.

President Trump emphasized that instead of collaborating with Washington, Ottawa chose to retaliate with its own tariffs, clarifying that the newly announced 35% levy by the US would be distinct from any existing sector-specific tariffs. He additionally warned that any goods rerouted to circumvent the higher duties would face additional penalties...

Brazilians Rally Around Lula After Trump Tariff Threat

from Common Dreams

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva may have gotten a political boost thanks to the intervention of U.S. President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, Trump announced he was slapping all Brazilian imports with a 50% tariff to protest the criminal trial of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, a longtime Trump ally who was indicted on charges related to an alleged coup plot to illegally remain in power after he lost the 2022 general election.

However, it does not appear that Trump's intervention into Brazil's domestic politics is helping Bolsonaro in the court of public opinion and Brazilian publication Globo reports that Brazilians have been swarming the U.S. president's Instagram account and leaving messages telling him to "leave Brazil in peace" while insisting their country is "not a lawless land."

In an analysis piece published by the São Paulo-based Folha, journalist Igor Gielow declared that Bolsonaro was an "immediate loser" of Trump's decision, as in the past he has declared Trump to be his political idol and the two are generally seen as joined at the hip. What's more, Gielow argues that the Trump tariffs are most likely to hurt Brazil's agribusiness sector, which is where the core of Bolsonaro's political support lies...

How Netanyahu Prolonged the War in Gaza to Stay in Power

from the New York Times

Six months into the war in the Gaza Strip, Benjamin Netanyahu was preparing to bring it to a halt. Negotiations were underway for an extended cease-fire with Hamas, and he was ready to agree to a compromise. He had dispatched an envoy to convey Israel’s new position to the Egyptian mediators. Now, at a meeting at the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv, he needed to get his cabinet onboard. He had kept the plan off the meeting’s written agenda. The idea was to reveal it suddenly, preventing resistant ministers from coordinating their response.

It was April 2024, long before Netanyahu mounted his political comeback. The proposal on the table would have paused the Gaza war for at least six weeks. It would have created a window for negotiations with Hamas over a permanent truce. More than 30 hostages captured by Hamas at the start of the war would have been released within weeks. Still more would have been freed if the truce was extended. And the devastation of Gaza, where roughly two million people were trying to survive daily attacks, would have come to a halt.

“The Deception Game”: Trump Is Scrambling to Make a Gaza Deal on Israel’s Terms

from Drop Site News

President Donald Trump has portrayed a new Gaza ceasefire deal as a near certainty, claiming it could be signed as early as this week. “We gotta get that solved. Gaza is—it’s a tragedy and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] wants to get it solved, and I want to get it solved, and I think the other side wants to get it solved,” Trump said Tuesday. “A lot of hate, long-term hate, but we think we’re going to have it solved pretty soon—hopefully with a real solution, a solution that’s going to be holding up.”

The indirect proximity talks underway in Doha may lead to an agreement on a ceasefire framework, particularly if Trump decides he wants a deal and is willing to force Netanyahu to make concessions. But a Hamas official with direct knowledge of the negotiations in Qatar told Drop Site Wednesday morning that, since Sunday, the U.S. and Israel have engaged in a “deception game,” one aimed at strong-arming Hamas into signing an agreement that would not end the genocide; permit Israeli forces to remain deeply entrenched in the enclave; and keep Israel in effective control of whether—and under what conditions— food, medicine, and other life essentials are allowed to enter Gaza.

The Hamas official said the Islamic resistance movement will not compromise on a core set of “red lines” it has established for any ceasefire: that there will be a full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces and that the UN, not Israel, will control humanitarian aid going into Gaza—administered on the terms of the original January 19 ceasefire deal that Israel unilaterally abandoned. Hamas also wants stronger language stating that Trump would guarantee that Israel maintains a ceasefire after an initial 60-day truce and exchange of captives to negotiate an end to the war...

Pro-Palestinian protest leader sues Trump for $20 million

from PressTV

A prominent pro-Palestine Columbia University graduate has sued US President Donald Trump's administration for $20 million over his arrest and detention by immigration agents.

Mahmoud Khalil, one of the leaders of pro-Palestinian protests on American campuses, was in custody following his arrest in March.

Khalil, a Columbia University graduate and a Palestinian activist who helped organize campus protests against Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza across the US last year, was arrested on March 8 in New York. He had since been held at an immigration detention center in Louisiana.

Khalil is also a legal permanent US resident and previously served as a lead negotiator for Columbia University Apartheid Divest, CUAD.

He was freed from a federal immigration detention center in Louisiana last month, hours after a judge ordered his release on bail.

The legal group backing Khalil said in a statement that the Trump administration carried out its illegal plan to arrest, detain, and deport Khalil in a manner calculated to terrorize him and his family.

"The administration carried out its illegal plan to arrest, detain, and deport Mr. Khalil 'in a manner calculated to terrorize him and his family,' the claim says," according to the Center for Constitutional Rights which is backing Khalil...

Europe not doing enough to stop Israel's genocide in Gaza: Spanish PM

from Daily Sabah

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Wednesday accused Israel of carrying out genocide in Palestine and criticized Europe for failing to take sufficient action to prevent it.

"No one that tramples on the EU’s founding principles - or that uses hunger and war to annihilate a legitimate state - can be a partner of the European Union,” he said.

Speaking before the Spanish parliament, Sanchez criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, saying its actions would be remembered "as one of the darkest episodes of the 21st century.”

"The horrifying images of children searching for their families under rubble, or dying of hunger in tents, should not only move us and shame us - they should compel the international community, and Europe in particular, to act,” he added.

He said Spain and Ireland first requested the EU to assess Israel’s compliance with the EU-Israel Association Agreement in February 2024.

"We had to push hard for that analysis to be carried out,” he added...

Massacre in Deir al-Balah: ‘Israel’ kills women, children in aid queue

from al Mayadeen English

A brutal massacre unfolded in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, after Israeli occupation forces targeted a crowd of starved Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid. According to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent, the devastating airstrike killed 16 civilians, including 10 children, as desperate parents stood in line to receive nutritional supplements for their little ones.

The Israeli attack reportedly struck near the al-Bashir laundry, in the vicinity of the al-Zuwari junction, where mothers and children had gathered in hopes of securing basic sustenance. Eyewitnesses described a chilling scene: lifeless bodies strewn across the street, many of them young children, an atrocity captured in graphic footage widely circulated by local media...

Syria's al-Sharaa met Israeli security official in UAE

from al Mayadeen English

Diplomatic sources have revealed to Al Mayadeen that Syrian interim president Ahmad Al-Sharaa held a secret meeting on Wednesday with the Israeli occupation’s National Security Advisor, Tzachi Hanegbi, in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi. The high-level encounter was reportedly coordinated directly by UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed.

According to the sources, both al-Sharaa and Hanegbi arrived in Abu Dhabi aboard separate flights that landed at nearly the same time. The meeting, which took place in the city, marks what the sources described as “a significant development” in the ongoing clandestine normalization negotiations between Damascus and Tel Aviv.

The sources further disclosed that a degree of coordination has been developing between certain new security agencies in Damascus and the Israeli occupation. One of the key outcomes of the meeting, according to the sources, was a concession offered by al-Sharaa regarding the occupied Syrian Golan Heights in exchange for international backing to secure his position in power...

I Have Been Assimilated by Win11: God Help Me

by Scott Creighton

Turns out yesterday's problem with downloaded Twitter videos is shared by this PC (HP500)  Its an older one. No problem like that on either the ROG (Republic of Gamers) desktop behind me or the MSI laptop I also own (used for AutoCad mainly) because, I believe, they both came pre-loaded with Windows 11.

So I could either have chosen to retire this Nitro 5 laptop or... install Windows 11 on it.

I could have gone with Linux but I don't shit about computers so right now Windows is converting my Nitro 5 into a surveillance system for Bill G.

That sucks but we all know eventually we die and we all know eventually we will be assimilated.

No live stream tonight as it seems to be a slow process (Nitro is the computer I make videos and do live streams on) and no video today.

Sorry. Collateral damage.

If this does not fix it, I will wipe the laptop and give it over to a TrumpyBear fan-boy so Bill can spy on him instead.

Fingers crossed.

I'm such a luddite.

Have a good one.

The Racist Ties that Bind the Trumpites

Trump fans (Trumpites) are still holding strong right now. In spite of recent events that might leave some to questions their loyalties and choices, they are still clamped onto TrumpyBear's nutsack like barnacles on an Israeli torpedo boat in June 1967.

Cult status confirmed.

So we have to ask ourselves what is Donald Trump's hold on his slightly diminished fan-boy base?  Is it because he's rich? Do Trumpites worship at the alter of Mammon?

Well, they would stone Jesus today if he held a Sermon on the Mount out in public somewhere after his 'second coming' so I guess that is part of it.

Is it because they have been conditioned to hate education and he's he's clearly the dumbest president in my lifetime?

Intellectualism is the work of Satan of course... so you would think they would be all for it considering that whole Mammon worship thing. But Trumpy-fans aren't really known for their consistency as I am about to show you now, so don't be confused... by their confusion.

What is it that binds them to him like Covid-19 to a guy after his twelfth booster?

Trump Agriculture Chief Mocked for Suggesting Medicaid Recipients Could Replace Deported Farm Workers

from Common Dreams

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on Tuesday drew instant jeers when she defended the mass deportation of immigrant farm laborers and suggested that they could be replaced by Americans who are currently enrolled in Medicaid.

While speaking in Washington, D.C., Rollins declared that there would be "no amnesty" for immigrant farm workers despite President Donald Trump saying just days ago that he was willing to let these workers stay at their jobs.

Instead, Rollins said that the mass deportations of farm laborers would "continue in a strategic way" and administration policy would be to "move the workforce toward automation and 100% American participation, which, again, with 34 million people, able-bodied adults on Medicaid, we should be able to do fairly quickly."

The idea that there are 34 million "able-bodied adults" on Medicaid who can be easily relocated to work picking crops is pure fantasy. In the first place, an estimated 64% of American adults who receive Medicaid already work, and most of those adult recipients who don't have jobs are either primary caregivers, are attending school, or have an illness or disability that prevents them from working.

A report released earlier this year authored by Economic Policy Institute economist Hilary Wething also poked holes in the narrative that millions of "able-bodied adults without dependents" ("ABAWDs") were sponging off the system...

Israel to forcibly draft ultra-Orthodox seminary students

from RT

Israel's military has announced plans to forcibly draft 54,000 ultra-Orthodox seminary students this month following a Supreme Court order nullifying their exemptions, the IDF reported in a Telegram post on Sunday.

Military service is mandatory for most citizens of Israel, with both men and women required to serve in the IDF for a period of 24 to 32 months, usually starting at age 18. Most of the country's Arab population, who comprise 21% of the population, is exempt from military service, although some volunteer. Ultra-Orthodox Jewish seminary students have also been exempt for decades.

The conscription notices are scheduled for distribution throughout July, with enlistments staggered over the coming year.

The IDF said it will also strengthen enforcement against draft evaders and deserters across all sectors. According to local reports, authorities plan to take swifter action against those who fail to report for duty, including authorizing border police to set up checkpoints and carry out arrests...

UK threatens further action against Israel if Gaza ceasefire proposal fails

    from al Jazeera

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has decried the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying that the United Kingdom could take further action against Israel if a ceasefire deal to end the war in the Palestinian territory does not materialise.

Speaking to the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday, Lammy also criticised the new aid distribution mechanism in Gaza via a group backed by the United States and Israel, dubbed the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

“We’ve been very clear that we don’t support the aid foundation that has been set up,” Lammy said. “It’s not doing a good job. Too many people are close to starvation. Too many people have lost their lives. We have led globally on our condemnation the system that has been set up.”

Hundreds of Palestinians have been gunned down by Israeli fire while seeking GHF assistance over the past weeks.

Asked by a legislator whether the British government will take measures against Israel if the “intolerable” situation in Gaza continues, Lammy said: “Yes, we will.”...

Israel working with US to displace Palestinians from Gaza, says Netanyahu

    from PressTV

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the Tel Aviv regime is collaborating with Washington to identify nations willing to accept Palestinians who have been forcibly displaced from Gaza, thereby advancing US President Donald Trump's contentious Gaza “takeover and own” scheme.

While addressing reporters prior to their dinner at the White House, Trump was asked about the status of his proposal to "take over" Gaza and forcibly remove the population of the Strip. He asked Netanyahu to respond to the question.

“I think President Trump had a brilliant vision. It’s called free choice. If people want to stay, they can stay; but if they want to leave, they should be able to leave,” Netanyahu answered. Gaza “shouldn’t be a prison. It should be an open place.”

The occupying Israeli regime has seized upon Trump’s plan for Gaza, presenting it as a chance to promote what it describes as "the voluntary migration” of Palestinians from the coastal sliver.

Critics and specialists have condemned the proposal as a means for the coerced removal of Palestinians.

“We’re working with the United States very closely [to] find countries that will… give the Palestinians a better future,” Netanyahu added.

Trump said he has had “great cooperation” from “surrounding countries” on the matter.

“Something good will happen,” he added...

Trump Claims Sweeping Power to Nullify Laws, Letters on TikTok Ban Show

10 Things to Know About the Ponderous Chain

Attorney General Pam Bondi told tech companies that they could lawfully violate a statute barring American companies from supporting TikTok based on a sweeping claim that President Trump has the constitutional power to set aside laws, newly disclosed documents show.

In letters to companies like Apple and Google, Ms. Bondi wrote that Mr. Trump had decided that shutting down TikTok would interfere with his “constitutional duties,” so the law banning the social media app must give way to his “core presidential national security and foreign affairs powers.”

The letters, which became public on Thursday via Freedom of Information Act lawsuits, portrayed Mr. Trump as having nullified the legal effects of a statute that Congress passed by large bipartisan majorities in 2024 and that the Supreme Court unanimously upheld.

Trump official to The Grayzone: CIA’s Ratcliffe acts as ‘Mossad stenographer’ on Iran

    from Grayzone

A Trump official tells The Grayzone that Israel’s Mossad is using CIA Director John Ratcliffe and US CENTCOM’s Gen. Michael Kurilla to influence Trump with cooked intelligence on Iran’s nuclear program. Inside the White House, dissenters have been isolated, setting the stage for a regime change war that could cost American lives.

Listen to/watch Max Blumenthal read this article here.

An official in the administration of President Donald Trump has told The Grayzone that CIA Director John Ratcliffe and US CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Kurilla have become vehicles for Israel’s Mossad and military as they seek to manipulate the US into attacking Iran. The Trump official referred to Ratcliffe as “Mossad’s stenographer.”

According to the official, Ratcliffe and Kurilla have pressured Trump to join Israel’s war more directly by regurgitating overblown briefings they received from the Israeli military and Mossad director David Barnea – but without informing the president that the intelligence was derived from a foreign third party.

During the Trump administration’s meetings with Israeli intelligence officials including Barnea, the official said the Israelis have demonstrated a single-minded focus on regime change, clamoring for authorization to assassinate Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Israeli officials have emphasized that the moment to take out Khamenei is now.

US contractors confirm; Gazans are being targeted at aid sites: AP

American contractors guarding food distribution sites in Gaza have been accused of using live ammunition and stun grenades on Palestinians seeking aid, according to testimonies and videos obtained by The Associated Press.

Two US contractors, speaking anonymously due to the sensitivity of the matter, revealed on Thursday that security personnel hired by the US-led Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) were often unqualified, heavily armed, and operated with little oversight. The accounts confirm that these contractors regularly deployed stun grenades, pepper spray, and, at times, live rounds to "manage crowds".

Trump Administration Live Updates: Policy Bill Moves Toward Final House Vote

    from the NYT

The House took its first step early Thursday toward a final vote on President Trump’s marquee domestic policy bill, after Republicans put down a revolt by conservative holdouts that had threatened to sink it.

After a day and night of paralysis on the House floor, and haggling and uncertainty in the Capitol, Speaker Mike Johnson scored a preliminary victory in his bid to overcome resistance within his party when the House voted to allow the bill to come up for debate. The 219-to-213 vote suggested he had won the backing of recalcitrant Republicans whose resistance had stalled the measure, though the House still had to take a final vote to approve it.

Representative Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat of New York and the minority leader, was delaying the vote on Thursday morning by using his prerogative as a leader to take far more than his allotted one minute to speak, assailing the bill as a “disgusting abomination” that would hurt Americans. Hamas issues 10-day ultimatum to Daesh-linked group leader to surrender over ties to Israel

    from PressTV

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has given Yasser Jihad Abu Shabab, leader of a Daesh-linked group, 10 days to surrender to authorities, waning he will be tried in absentia if he fails to comply.

Abu Shabab faces charges of treason, armed rebellion, and forming an armed gang.

Trump eases sanctions on HTS amid report of Israeli expansion in Syria's Quneitra

... On June 29, the United States lifted most sanctions on the Arab country, citing alleged reforms under the head of the HTS-led regime in Syria, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, whose administration reportedly agreed to normalize ties with Israel and expel Palestinian factions.

    from PressTV

The US government has approved a $510 million weapons sale to the Israeli regime, reinforcing Washington’s military backing as the regime’s genocide in Gaza reaches its 21st month.

The sale, approved on June 30, includes over 7,000 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits – 3,845 KMU-558B/B kits for the BLU-109 bomb body, and 3,280 KMU-572 F/B kits for the MK-82 bomb body.

Additionally, the agreement covers technical support, engineering assistance, and logistics services provided by the US government.

The US State Department stated that the arms transfer is intended to "assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready [military] capability," calling it "vital to US national security interests."

The arms deal was approved through the Foreign Military Sales program and officially notified to Congress on Monday.

Boeing serves as the primary contractor, with a portion of the order likely sourced from existing US military inventories...

Trump’s Finances Were Shaky. Then He Began to Capitalize on His Comeback.

    from the New York Times

Last spring, even as Donald J. Trump’s march back toward the White House dominated public attention, his finances, largely out of view, faced serious threats.

His office building in Lower Manhattan generated too little cash to cover its mortgage, with the balance coming due. Many of his golf courses regularly lacked enough players to cover costs. The flow of millions of dollars a year from his stint as a television celebrity had mostly dried up.

And a sudden wave of legal judgments threatened to devour all his cash.

Then, with his clinching of the Republican nomination, everything began to change.

In the following months, Mr. Trump, along with his two eldest sons, Eric and Donald Jr., refocused the family business, forming a series of partnerships, especially in cryptocurrency, with investors who were willing to bank on his victory.

Once Mr. Trump won the presidency in November, that approach kicked into overdrive.

His family business announced numerous new deals that would financially benefit Mr. Trump directly, even as he made policy decisions that affected those industries or that involved countries in which the United States had political interests. Most glaringly, Mr. Trump is now both a partner in several crypto ventures and, as president, crypto’s chief policy regulator, and he has signaled that he wants his administration to have a hands-off approach to digital currencies.

Today, those moves are seen by Mr. Trump’s detractors as a money grab of historic proportions. But an analysis by The New York Times of thousands of pages of internal Trump Organization documents filed in one of the legal actions against him suggests a more urgent motivation for Mr. Trump’s behavior: a need, rather than simply a desire, for easy money to keep his empire intact...

    Trump Lost. Vote Suppression Won.

    from Greg Palast

And, if not for the mass purge of voters of color, if not for the mass disqualification of provisional and mail-in ballots, if not for the new mass “vigilante” challenges in swing states, Harris would have gained at least another 3,565,000 votes, topping Trump’s official popular vote tally by 1.2 million.

Stay with me and I’ll give you the means, methods and, most important, the key calculations.

But if you’re expecting a sexy story about Elon Musk messing with vote-counting software from outer space, sorry, you won’t get that here.

As in Bush v. Gore in 2000, and in too many other miscarriages of Democracy, this election was determined by good old “vote suppression,” the polite term we use for shafting people of color out of their ballot. We used to call it Jim Crow.

    Here are key numbers:

    • 4,776,706 voters were wrongly purged from voter rolls according to US Elections Assistance Commission data.
    • By August of 2024, for the first time since 1946, self-proclaimed “vigilante” voter-fraud hunters challenged the rights of 317,886 voters. The NAACP of Georgia estimates that by Election Day, the challenges exceeded 200,000 in Georgia alone.
    • No less than 2,121,000 mail-in ballots were disqualified for minor clerical errors (e.g. postage due).
    • At least 585,000 ballots cast in-precinct were also disqualified.
    • 1,216,000 “provisional” ballots were rejected, not counted.
    • 3.24 million new registrations were rejected or not entered on the rolls in time to vote.

If the purges, challenges and ballot rejections were random, it wouldn’t matter. It’s anything but random. For example, an audit by the State of Washington found that a Black voter was 400% more likely than a white voter to have their mail-in ballot rejected. Rejection of Black in-person votes, according to a US Civil Rights Commission study in Florida, ran 14.3% or one in seven ballots cast...

Haaretz report exposes deliberate Israeli policy of massacring aid-seekers in Gaza

(In spite of Netanyahu's unhinged accusations of this all being a 'blood libel' unleashed by the leader paper in Israel, Haaretz, today, this morning, senior military leaders admitted the 'uncalculated' fire at starving Gazans.)

    from WSWS

Over the past month, Israeli forces have opened fire almost every day at aid seekers collecting food from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the US/Israeli-backed food distribution organization. More than 549 people have been killed and over 4,000 wounded so far, during nineteen separate incidents.

From the start, it was clear that the level of daily mass killing was the result of a deliberate policy of shooting live small arms ammunition, tank rounds and mortars into crowds of aid-seekers, with the aim of turning the food distribution points into killing fields as part of the ongoing genocide.

On Friday, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz published an in-depth report substantiating the existence of orders instructing Israeli soldiers to fire into the crowds. Internally, the massacres are officially justified as a form of crowd control, with soldiers moving groups of unarmed people from one place to another by shooting at them.

One soldier interviewed by Haaretz said that the oversight of the food distribution by the Israeli forces was referred to as “Operation Salted Fish,” a reference to the Israeli version of the children’s game “Red light, green light.” By all appearances, this name is based on the Korean television series Squid Game. In the fictional series, contestants are forced to play the children’s game “red light, green light,” with those who move before the “green light” being shot with live bullets...

Israel's leaders slam a news report on a Gaza 'killing field' near food sites

    from NPR

A newspaper report published in Hebrew and English quoting Israeli soldiers saying commanders have ordered them to shoot at unarmed hungry crowds of people in Gaza trying to reach food distribution sites prompted a scathing response by Israel's prime minister on Friday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement calling the Haaretz report "blood libel."

"These are malicious falsehoods designed to defame the IDF [Israel Defense Forces], the most moral military in the world," they added.

Gaza's Health Ministry says more than 500 people have been killed and more than 4,000 wounded by Israeli forces while seeking food aid in the past month.

The Haaretz report quotes multiple anonymous Israeli soldiers describing what they say are the military's attacks on people trying to get food aid in Gaza since May 27. The soldiers say they were ordered by commanders to fire at unarmed civilians who were approaching food distribution sites during off hours, even when the crowds posed no threat...

Proposed changes to Medicaid, other health programs could lead to over 51,000 preventable deaths, researchers warn

from Yale School of Public Health

In a letter to ranking Senate leaders, public health and policy researchers at Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania warn that provisions in the House-passed federal budget reconciliation bill could lead to more than 51,000 deaths annually if enacted.

Addressed to the Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Sen. Ron Wyden and Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Ranking Member Sen. Bernie Sanders, the letter presents science-based projections of the human toll of eliminating key health protections. The findings point to catastrophic public health consequences from mass insurance losses and cuts to nursing home standards—provisions supported by the House bill.

The researchers estimate that 42,500 lives could be lost each year from disenrollments in Medicaid and Marketplace coverage and the rollback of nursing home staffing rules. An additional 8,811 deaths are projected from the expiration of the enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) Premium Tax Credits, bringing the total to more than 51,000...

Targeting Gazan carrying flour ‘heinous crime by fascist Israeli army’, says Hamas

    from PressTV

The Palestinian Hamas resistance movement has vehemently denounced the Israeli military’s targeting of an ordinary citizen carrying a sack of flour on his back in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood of Gaza City as a “sadistic and brutal act.”

“These scenes document a moment from a heinous crime committed daily by the fascist occupation army, which targets starving people searching for food, amid a suffocating blockade and systematic starvation imposed by the war criminal Netanyahu’s government for nearly four months,” the Gaza-based group said in a statement released on Sunday.

The movement highlighted that the footage of the drone strike aired by the Al Jazeera television news channel exposed “a sadistic and brutal act by a criminal army stripped of all ethics or humanity, with no regard for values or laws.”

It went on to state that Israeli occupation forces have consistently taken the lives of innocent Palestinian children, women, and the elderly ever since the Zionist entity was created on May 14, 1948, and the troops have perpetrated the most egregious violations of human rights.

Hamas emphasized that the ongoing and unparalleled atrocities, which involve the systematic targeting of starving civilians and the relentless massacres against civilians across the Gaza Strip, necessitate that the international community, its institutions, and the collective human conscience take decisive action to halt these actions and bring the fascist offenders to justice in international courts...

Ro Khanna Calls Trump’s Iran Strike “Unconstitutional” but Votes against Impeachment

     from Sam Husseini

Imperial Israel’s genocide has been enabled most recently by Trump’s bombing of Iran’s peaceful nuclear weapons program. That attack should have triggered impeachment by Congress, but didn’t.

I questioned Rep. Ro Khanna on Tuesday night at an event moderated by Zeteo’s Mehdi Hassan. Many thanks to

It’s shall we say remarkable that Khanna (a very sophisticated member of the House Armed Services Committee) would claim he didn’t know Israel — and the US government — won’t acknowledge Israel’s nuclear “power” — err, it’s nuclear WEAPONS. This is especially true since I actually asked him about this issue in an AMA last year and he ignored it as This is critical because US law prohibits funding countries that are nuclear weapons proliferators. In 2020, Grant Smith of Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy wrote to members of Congress who have been critical of Israel: “I believe your coalition has far more influence on the matter of foreign aid than it may realize. In 2016 and 2017 we sued the administration(s) over violations of the Arms Export Control Act, but did not prevail for lack of standing. Your coalition does not have such issues.” Smith would later tell me: “But no member of Congress has taken up this issue — or even mentioned Israel’s nuclear weapons arsenal.”

Iran unites in mourning, honors martyrs in mass funeral

Among the mourners were President Masoud Pezeshkian, Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as well as former Iranian Presidential Advisor Mohammad Javad Zarif, in addition to official delegations from Bahrain, Iraq, and other Arab nations, standing in solidarity with the Islamic Republic.

Israel’s Military Appears Poised to Expand Into Gaza City Amid Cease-Fire Calls

    from the NYT

The Israeli military issued broad evacuation orders on Sunday for neighborhoods of Gaza City, amid growing calls for a cease-fire deal from President Trump.

The notifications for people to leave parts of Gaza City, where Israeli troops have refrained from operating for months, as well as other areas in northern Gaza, came as the Israeli military warned that it would intensify operations that would expand west toward the city center. Residents were instructed to move south.

It was not clear if the military’s evacuation orders heralded a new phase in its offensive, a return to areas that were partly destroyed in previous rounds of fighting, or if they could be a pressure tactic to try to get Hamas to concede to Israel’s terms for ending the war.

Attention in Israel and Washington has refocused on Gaza since Israel’s 12-day war with Iran ended on Tuesday. The military campaign in Gaza — which was ignited by the Hamas-led October 2023 attack on Israel — has lasted more than 630 days and is one of Israel’s most protracted and deadliest wars.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing increasing pressure at home to end the conflict by agreeing to a cease-fire deal that would see Hamas release the hostages still being held in the enclave. Those hostages include up to 20 people who were taken captive in the October 2023 attack and are believed to still be alive, along with the remains of about 30 others.

Mr. Trump on Sunday publicly pressed for a deal. “MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!! DJT,” he wrote on social media, hours after arguing that Mr. Netanyahu’s long-running corruption trial be canceled since it would interfere with “the process of negotiating a deal with Hamas.”...

Iran’s top military command vows ‘more forceful’ response if Israel repeats aggression

    from PressTV

Iran’s highest operational command unit warns that the Armed Forces will give a “more forceful” response to the Israeli regime if it carries out another act of aggression against the Islamic Republic.

“The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are monitoring all actions of enemies with complete vigilance and are fully prepared to counter any aggression. In the event of repeated aggression, they will respond even more forcefully,” the commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Military Headquarters said in a statement on Sunday.

The Zionist enemy and the United States have repeatedly proved that they are not committed to any legal, moral, and international regulations and that they are not trustworthy, the statement said.

Heart of Darkness: Gen. Kurilla and the Birthpangs of the New Middle East

Gen. Kurilla... Col. Walter E. Kurtz... Gen. Smedley Butler... too much or right on the money? Time will tell.

In New Assessment, C.I.A. Chief Says U.S. Strikes ‘Severely Damaged’ Iranian Program

    from the New York Times

Classified intelligence about the damage to Iran’s nuclear program from U.S. strikes was at the center of a political tempest on Wednesday as spy chiefs pushed out new assessments and President Trump continued to defend his assertion that Iran’s key facilities had been “obliterated.”

The C.I.A. director, John Ratcliffe, said the strikes had “severely damaged” Iran’s nuclear program, and the administration suggested that the initial report, by the Defense Intelligence Agency, was based on preliminary assessments and was already outdated.

The damage was also being assessed by other U.S. spy agencies. No information that has become public from those assessments has supported Mr. Trump’s description of the level of destruction from the U.S. attack, though they all confirmed that the damage had been substantial.

The D.I.A. report was based on information from little more than 24 hours after the American attacks on three of Iran’s nuclear sites...

Gen. Kurilla and the Birthpangs of the New Middle East

    by Scott Creighton

Once again, Gen. Kurilla, Commander of U.S. Central Command (CentCom) is front and center doing Israel's and our 'national interests' bidding on project Return the Shah:

'But the bunker buster bombs did not take out the sites’ centrifuges, which were still “intact,” instead largely damaging aboveground structures, according to the DIA report, which based its findings on a battle damage assessment conducted by U.S. Central Command following the strikes.'  The Hill

'A current U.S. official familiar with the ongoing damage assessment process said that the DIA’s findings—as well as "the partisan hit job published by CNN"—have been "completely debunked" over the past 24 hours, including by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).' Washington Free Beacon

'The initial report, which is classified, was produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency with the help of U.S. Central Command. The findings are expected to evolve with time as the Defense Department and broader intelligence community collect more information on the three nuclear sites, which were hit by massive bunker-buster bombs in what was the largest B-2 strike in U.S. history. Military officials have said there is no doubt the sites sustained significant damage but that a "battle damage assessment" would take time to complete.' ABC News

'The assessment, which has not been previously reported, was produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Pentagon’s intelligence arm. It is based on a battle damage assessment conducted by US Central Command in the aftermath of the US strikes, one of the sources said.' CNN

And then we have this from April of 2025:

“As with every visit to the IDF, I was thoroughly impressed by the readiness for combat that I saw here. Our military relationship with Israel is solid,” Kurilla stated.  ' ...

'Kurilla is reportedly leading a faction in Washington that seeks to convince U.S. President Donald Trump to greenlight a joint military strike against the Iranian regime.' ...

'Trump told media representatives that he is currently prioritizing a diplomatic solution over a military strike.

“I’m not in a rush to do it,” Trump said. “Iran has a chance to have a great country, and to live happily without death, and I’d like to see that. That’s my first option,” the president argued while stressing that he will not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

However, the president has also made it clear that he will approve military action against Iran if the diplomatic efforts fail to prevent Tehran’s quest for nuclear bombs' All Israel News

Gen. Kurilla was pushing for direct unprovoked military action, along with Israel, against Iran, since April of this year and they even had plans to do this back in May. It was Trump who reigned them in.

But evidence of his regime change intentions date back to Jan of 2025 at least which is why the rabid Zionists in Israel love him so.

“We now have an unprecedented opportunity to advance the vision of a prosperous and integrated Middle East in which U.S. national interests are advanced and Iran’s violent attempts to upend this peaceful order are defeated,” Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla, Commander CENTCOM (Jan 2025)

There is nothing about their assessment on CentCom's own website. That's how proud they are of their work.

Trump official to The Grayzone: CIA’s Ratcliffe acts as ‘Mossad stenographer’ on Iran

from The Grayzone (H/T Where's BB?)

According to the official, Ratcliffe and Kurilla have pressured Trump to join Israel’s war more directly by regurgitating overblown briefings they received from the Israeli military and Mossad director David Barnea – but without informing the president that the intelligence was derived from a foreign third party...

Is Israel's favorite US general helping to push us into war?

Did the Israelis strike Iran when it did because Michael Kurilla is still commander of U.S. Central Command and a “window” for a prospective joint operation with the U.S. might be closing?

Some are speculating that because Kurilla is expected to retire from the military this summer that the Israelis saw their chance. Kurilla is retiring this summer after a nearly 40-year career that dates back to the first Persian Gulf War. Ynet noted that Kurilla “is seen as one of Israel’s staunchest allies in the American defense establishment,” and his relationship “runs deep” dating back to his time as a young officer in his 20s.

“He’s a hawk of hawks,” noted Curt Mills, executive director of the American Conservative. “(The Israelis) knew they were losing an ally soon. They knew the negotiations (with Iran) were ongoing. The Iranians had signaled that they were close to accepting a deal days before the strike. So all of these things were a factor.

"And then meanwhile, I think there's every piece of evidence that Kurilla would at least start the conflict and pop his cork on it before he leaves.”...

Trying to Make Sense of the Latest Iran Attack Narrative Wars: Success or Not? That is the Question

     by Scott Creighton

We are witnessing a narrative war in the Trump administration. Some say the attack on Iran's facilities was successful. Others (DIA and CENTCOM) say it was not and Iran still poses a threat to the region and of course, to Glorious Israel.

Remember... it was Netanyahu who said he was told by CENTCOM that the Iranians were weeks away from being able to make a nuclear weapon and it was that assessment which prompted him to attack Iran before the agreement with Trump could be signed.

'The head of U.S. Central Command, Gen. Michael Kurilla, testified in mid-June that if Iran were to decide to sprint to a nuclear weapon, it would be able to produce enough weapons-grade material for a simple nuclear weapon in one week and could make enough for 10 nuclear weapons in three weeks' CBS

It was CENTCOM that then carried out Trump's illegal attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.

'Tampa was at the heart of the secret bombing campaign that hit three Iranian nuclear facilities.

Home to MacDill Air Force base and U.S. Central Command, CentCom, military officials in Tampa directed a precision strike under President Donald Trump’s orders to destroy or degrade Iran’s nuclear program" Tampa Bay Times

And now it's CENTCOM that is at the heart of the story about Iran's nuclear facilities were barely damaged... thus leaving them as a remaining 'existential threat' to Israel.

Was Trump's Illegal Attack Really as Useless as the Warmongers Claim?

Because if it was successful, suddenly Israel and her apologists have no 'existential threat' to justify regime change.

Iranian armed forces' general staff rejects claims of new missile launches at Zionist entity

    from PressTV

Iran has firmly denied reports about any new missile launches from the Islamic Republic toward the occupied territories after the regime ceased its aggression early on Tuesday.

In a statement on Tuesday, the General Staff of the Armed Forces denied any missile launches from Iran toward the occupied territories after the regime was forced to halt its aggression against the Islamic Republic after 12 days.

The statement noted that some sources affiliated with the Zionist regime claimed that Iranian missiles had been fired at the regime's territory, but it wasn’t true.

Hours after the regime was forced to halt its aggression against Iran as part of a deal with US President Donald Trump, Israeli war affairs minister Israel Katz said he had instructed the Israeli military to “respond forcefully” to what he claimed to be Iran’s violation of the "truce."

A well-informed source told Press TV that the claim was just a pretext to initiate the breach of the so-called "truce" agreement reached between the Israeli regime and Washington...

Trump ‘annoyed’ with Netanyahu for breaking ceasefire

    from al Jazeera

Trump is feeling “quite annoyed” at and perhaps “betrayed” by Netanyahu after Israel launched attacks on Iran, violating the ceasefire, says Al Jazeera’s US correspondent Phil Lavelle.

As the US president prepared to fly to Europe for a NATO summit, he told reporters of his frustration that both Israel and Iran had violated the terms of their ceasefire agreement, just hours after it was announced.

Before his departure, Trump also swore while making comments about Israel and Iran.

“He was angry with both Israel and Iran. But you could really tell some of the extra anger there, the extra fury was aimed at Israel,” Lavelle noted.

He added that Trump “obviously feels quite annoyed, and betrayed, perhaps, by Benjamin Netanyahu”.

Trump spoke to Netanyahu on Monday to get his backing for the ceasefire, before enlisting the help of Qatar to get Iranian support for the proposal.
