Israeli political commentator Ran Edelist argued in a recent opinion piece in Maariv that the wars the Israeli regime is waging across Lebanon, Syria, Gaza and the West Bank are being deliberately prolonged by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition partners to sustain a climate of fear through the next election, regardless of the human cost.

Edelist described the wars as "sham wars" designed to keep Israeli society anxious and consolidate political support ahead of the vote. He wrote that soldiers and civilians continue to be wounded and killed while Netanyahu and his partners operate on an "after us, the flood" logic, with electoral gain outweighing any cost in lives.

He also argued that the political opposition, despite fielding a roster of former generals, has failed to challenge this strategy publicly, calling its silence a product of deference to the military establishment rather than a genuine alternative security policy...

Why has Israel escalated attacks in southern Lebanon despite ceasefire?

Lebanese leaders have condemned the Israeli bombing of southern Lebanon that has killed at least 11 people in the worst attacks since the renewal of a ceasefire was brokered in June by the United States. 

Lebanon and Israel have agreed to two truce agreements – June 4 and 26 – mediated by US President Donald Trump’s administration. June 4 ceasefire was contingent on a “complete cessation” of Hezbollah fire and the evacuation of its fighters. The June 26 framework agreement did not specifically call for the withdrawal of the Israeli forces and instead tied it to the disarmament of Hezbollah. 

The agreements came after another truce announced in April had unravelled. Both the ceasefires, opposed by Hezbollah, have not stopped the Israeli military from expanding its control over Lebanese territory and carrying out deadly attacks.

Lebanon’s military starts ‘pilot zone’ takeover in south

The Lebanese army is set to take charge of security in three “pilot zone” villages in southern Lebanon, according to the United States.

The villages of Froun, Srifa and Zawtar al-Gharbiya were named by the US State Department on Monday as the first areas that will trial the implementation of the US-mediated framework agreement. 

Under the plan, the Israeli military is set to perform a phased retreat from the locations it occupies in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese military will then take over security arrangements and oversee the disarmament of the armed Hezbollah group.

“This milestone is a direct outcome of last week’s discussions between Israel and Lebanon in Rome,” the State Department said in a statement. It added that the US “will continue working closely with both parties to implement the Framework to a successful conclusion”.

Lebanon, Israel and the US agreed to the framework on June 26, after six rounds of face-to-face negotiations. However, Israel continues to carry out attacks in Lebanon as Hezbollah fires rockets into northern Israel...

Strikes on Lebanon Continue as Israeli DM Says They Are ‘Applying Rafah Model’

Israeli forces continued to carry out drone strikes across southern Lebanon again this weekend, along with reported artillery strikes against towns around the Tyre District. At least one person was reported killed in incidents, and several others wounded.

The one killed person was on a motorcycle near Kfar Roumine, in the Nabatieh District, when he was struck by a drone. Another drone hit a pickup truck transporting garbage around Kfar Dajjal, also around that same district, wounding two people.

Other incidents were reported in al-Mansouri, in Tyre District, wounding as many as four, though details are still emerging on that matter. Israeli forces also carried out demolition operations in villages near the border, including Khiam in the Marjayoun District...

Iran warns of consequences as Ben-Gvir says 'all of Lebanon must burn'

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reacted sharply to a public statement by Ben-Gvir, who called for “all of Lebanon” to burn and urged harsh retaliation against Lebanese civilians.

In a post on social media, Araghchi stressed that the remarks should not be viewed as the rhetoric of a fringe extremist but rather as the position of a senior member of the Israeli cabinet.

“This is not a rant by a random genocidal lunatic. It is a public post by the national security minister of the Israeli regime,” Araghchi said.

The Iranian foreign minister described the Israeli government as a regime driven by perpetual conflict, arguing that its policies threaten not only the region but also broader international peace and stability. He warned that the regime’s expansionist and militaristic approach has fueled recurring crises across West Asia and undermined diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring security.

Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on multiple areas across Lebanon, which reportedly resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of Lebanese citizens and caused extensive damage to residential neighborhoods and infrastructure.

The secretary general of Lebanon's Hezbollah resistance movement has welcomed the recently concluded memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States, calling upon the Beirut government to seize the moment and expel Israeli occupation forces from southern Lebanon.

"We congratulate the Iranian people, the Resistance and the countries and peoples of the region and the world, who yearn for independence and freedom on this great victory,” Sheikh Naim Qassem said in a televised address broadcast from the Lebanese capital Beirut on Wednesday evening.

Israel Strikes Lebanese Capital of Beirut in Latest Escalation

20 Lebanese have been killed in the last 24 hours as Israel continues to follow its latest ceasefire deal with substantial escalation of military strikes on the country. Sunday’s strikes included multiple Israeli strikes on the suburbs of the Lebanese capital city of Beirut.

Two apartment buildings were struck in the suburb of Dahiyeh. The strikes were carried out without any advanced notice for civilians to evacuate. At least two people were killed in the attacks, and 20 others were wounded, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. The wounded included at least four women and four children.

Israeli officials claimed the attacks on the apartment blocks targeted “terrorist headquarters,” though it is as yet unclear if any of the casualties were actually in any way terrorists. The attacks were reportedly carried out in coordination with the United States.  President Trump is reportedly unhappy with the strikes...

Trump confirms heated exchange with Netanyahu over Lebanon

US President Donald Trump confirmed on Wednesday that he sharply rebuked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a phone call earlier this week, criticizing the continued escalation against Lebanon while acknowledging that the two leaders continue to coordinate closely.

Speaking in an interview with Miranda Devine on the Pod Force One podcast, Trump confirmed the circulated reports that he described Netanyahu as “f***ing crazy” during a Monday conversation.

“I was a little bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon,” Trump said, referring to ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon, undeterred by the ceasefire. 

Despite the unusually blunt exchange, Trump noted that it did not affect the relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv. “We’ve worked very well together. I like Bibi a lot. And I work very well with him,” Trump said.

The remarks offer a public glimpse into disagreements between the US administration and "Israel", seen before during the Biden administration, wherein the former president called Netanyahu a "bad f*****g guy". 

BRICS calls for Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon in joint FMs statement

The foreign ministers of BRICS member states called for Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and urged full respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement published by India's Ministry of External Affairs on Friday, following a meeting in the Indian capital under India’s chairmanship, the ministers called on "Israel" to withdraw its occupying forces from all Lebanese territory, including several positions in southern Lebanon where troops reportedly remain deployed.

The BRICS foreign ministers recalled the existing ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and called on all parties to strictly adhere to its terms, while condemning continued ceasefire violations and stating that such actions undermine regional stability and diplomatic efforts to maintain peace.

'Israel' kills al-Akhbar journalist Amal Khalil in South Lebanon

Al-Akhbar correspondent Amal Khalil has been martyred in the town of al-Tayri in the Bint Jbeil district of South Lebanon, following a deliberate Israeli pursuit that unfolded over nearly two hours.

The sequence of events on Wednesday afternoon reveals the intentionality of the attack.

At 2:45 pm, an Israeli drone bombed a civilian vehicle travelling ahead of Khalil and her colleague, journalist Zeinab Faraj. The two journalists immediately sought shelter near a tree, while emergency contacts were made with Red Cross teams and Lebanese army intelligence.

At 2:50 pm, Khalil called colleagues to tell them she was hiding from the bombardment.

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declares that "Israel's" "new border" must be the Litani River, 40 kilometers inside Lebanese territory.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has called for the annexation of territory from Lebanon up to the Litani River, saying "Israel" should seize vast swathes of land in southern Lebanon,

"The new Israeli border must be the Litani," Smotrich said on Israeli radio on Monday. "The campaign needs to end with a different reality entirely, both with the Hezbollah decision but also with the change of Israel's borders."

The Litani River is located nearly 40 kilometers inside Lebanese territory from the South.

Since early March, "Israel" has ordered all residents of southern Lebanon to leave areas south of the Litani, citing what it called "limited and targeted ground operations against key Hezbollah strongholds."...

In a statement on X, the IDF explained that the “limited and targeted ground operations against key Hezbollah strongholds” are “part of broader defensive efforts to establish and strengthen a forward defensive posture, which includes the dismantling of terrorist infrastructure and the elimination of terrorists operating in the area.” 

The Israeli military noted that prior to the entry of its ground troops into the area, it carried out artillery and airstrikes against “numerous terrorist targets in order to mitigate threats in the operational environment.”...

Israeli strikes kill 10+ across Lebanon, family wiped out in South

Israeli occupation forces carried out a series of airstrikes across Lebanon on Thursday, killing more than 10 people since dawn in strikes that spanned the country's south, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut's southern suburb.

Al Mayadeen's correspondent in southern Lebanon reported that an entire family of four was martyred after an Israeli airstrike directly targeted their home in the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya at dawn.

In the nearby town of  Jmayjmeh, a separate Israeli strike killed two people and wounded six others, according to preliminary reports.

The mukhtar (local administrative official) of the town of Kfour and his wife were also killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted them at dawn.

Israeli warplanes additionally raided the towns of Toul, Jibshit, Majdal Selm, Kfar Reman, Odaisseh, Deir Seryan, Tallousa, Zebqin-Yater, and Toulin across southern Lebanon...
