A refund system for businesses that paid tariffs which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled President Donald Trump imposed without the constitutional authority to do so is scheduled to launch Monday.

Importers and their brokers will be able to begin claiming refunds through an online portal beginning at 8 a.m., according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the agency administering the system.

It’s the first step in a complicated process that also might eventually lead to refunds for consumers who were billed for some or all of the tariffs on products shipped to them from outside the United States.

The Louisiana House of Representatives voted this week to pass what the National Homelessness Law Center says is “one of the cruelest anti-homeless bills in the country.”

Like many other anti-homeless bills being advanced around the country following a 2024 Supreme Court decision allowing states and cities to criminalize homelessness, House Bill 211, which passed by a vote of 70-28, makes unauthorized sleeping in public spaces a crime. 

It is punishable by a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. Repeat offenders could face one to two years in prison with hard labor and a $1,000 fine.

The bill, which will now advance to the GOP-controlled state Senate, has been nicknamed the “Streets to Success Act” because, according to its sponsor, state Rep. Debbie Villio (R-79), the goal is not to jail homeless people but to “connect them to service providers.”

Those who are convicted of sleeping outdoors could be given the option to avoid jail time by instead entering into a mandatory treatment program for at least 12 months. The bill authorizes local governments to set up semi-permanent camps in remote areas, where defendants would be required to stay and receive treatment. 

The bill requires homeless defendants to pay “all or part of the cost of the treatment program to which he is assigned,” a steep cost for many, as the average cost for residential drug and alcohol rehab treatment in Louisiana is more than $4,400 per week, according to the addiction referral service directory Addicted.org.

According to the bill, those who cannot afford this steep cost would be required to perform unpaid labor for the state or a local community center in lieu of payment.

Bill Quigley, director of the Gillis Long Poverty Law Center at Loyola University New Orleans, called the bill’s entire premise “a farce.”

“If people had the resources to pay for housing and physical and/or mental health services, they would not be on the street,” he told Common Dreams...

The threat from Trump came after Iran said it re-closed the Strait of Hormuz after briefly declaring it was open to all commercial vessels. Kitten UPDATE: Adoption, Engine Lights and the New Rona

 

A little update into what has been going on the last two days. Got the car looked after and that's not great but a kitten rescue place came by checked out the kittens, were very happy, made plans to pick em up on Monday to get them (and IZZY!) ready for adoption. I'm gonna bleed less, yes, but I am going to miss em. They are like family already but they will find good loving homes and I am happy for that. I got sick at the car place, there for 4 1/2 hours yesterday just to get the bad news. Anyway, I am very happy with the kittens. They did great. Very healthy, no fleas, she could handle them with no problems. They are Grade A kittenstock, healthy friendly and ready to start their new exciting lives. So I got one weekend to grift with em before saying goodbye. Please send Bandaids.

Turkey’s Erdogan: Israel must not be allowed to sabotage US-Iran ceasefire

I was occupied yesterday. Some bad news for a friend. Someone very close to her shuffled off this mortal coil in an unexpected way.

My deepest and sincerest condolences to you.

Just a reminder folks, though it's a cliche at moments like this but... it's only a ride folks. It goes up and down and fast and slow and sometimes seems completely out of control while other times it's hardly moving. 

Yes it's a ride and by the nature of a ride, its finite and we don't get to control when it starts... or when it ends.

Some of us ride alone. Some ride in packs, scared of the ride. Some ride with partners to share the joy with them and those are the lucky ones... until they find themselves riding alone.

The older I get the more I find myself believing what my mother Janet believed... that we are all part of something infinite, something vast, older than time. Something from which we are born so that we may return. 

Yes ashes return to the dust... the dust that fell from the stars. Yes ashes to ashes, dust to dust... but energy, I believe, our energy, our souls, returns as well to something as of yet unknown to us. 

Energy to energy. 

It is the law of conservation. Nothing is wasted in this spinning blue-green thing we call home so why should our experiences, our growth, our discoveries, our loves, our losses, our triumphs, our failures, our joys and sorrows simply ebb away into the nothingness as if they never were? 

Energy to energy. 

I look at the miracle of the human body, how perfect an engine it is, a vehicle for us to us to gather and collect all of the experiences of life, good and bad, and I can't help but think there is so much more than I could ever hope to understand. 

But that is my opinion, nothing more. 

Yes it's a ride. Bill was right about that. 

But like any other ride, you can get back in line. 

You can and you will meet again all those you love and hold most dear on that ride once again.  

My friend, I wish you solace during this painful time.  

And for him... what else could I play but a little exit stage left music for him to enjoy while he's waiting in line for you.

Oil tankers avoid Hormuz after Trump's blockade threats

A growing number of oil tankers are rerouting away from the strategic Strait of Hormuz ahead of a planned US naval blockade set to begin Monday, Reuters reported, citing shipping data and official statements.

Trump issued threats against vessels that continue making transit payments to Iranian authorities, while also announcing that the US Navy would commence mine clearance operations in the Strait. The US president alleged, without providing evidence, that Iran had placed mines in the waterway.

The Strait serves as a critical passage for nearly one-fifth of the world's daily oil supplies. Any disruption there carries significant risks for global energy markets.

The US military’s attempt to sail two destroyers through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday ended as a failed propaganda stunt timed to coincide with talks in Islamabad, a Press TV investigation has found.

The investigation, based on information provided by highly placed military-security sources, reveals that the US Navy destroyers came within minutes of complete destruction after attempting a high-risk passage through the Strait of Hormuz in a failed propaganda operation aimed at influencing Iran-US talks in the Pakistani capital.

The USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) and USS Frank E. Peterson (DDG 121), both Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, attempted to transit the strategic waterway but were intercepted and forced to retreat by Iranian naval forces.

According to the investigation, the American destroyers and their accompanying frigates did not succeed in passing through the strategic waterway that remains closed for US vessels.

Press TV's investigation found the American attempt to be an extremely high-risk move that could have easily turned into a disaster for the United States and its military.

The destroyers were only a few minutes away from complete destruction after Iranian cruise missiles locked onto the vessel and attack drones were deployed.

Diplomats slam US negotiators' performance in Iran talks

Former United States State Department advisor and veteran West Asia negotiator Aaron David Miller sharply criticized Washington’s assumptions about the pace and substance of talks with Iran, arguing that the US misjudged Iran’s position.

“If Administration believed after only 21 hours of negotiations, Iran would give up enrichment which is what Vance implied, they totally misread the moment and the Iranian dominated IRGC,” Miller posted on X. 

Gerard Araud, a high-ranking retired French diplomat who served as the Ambassador to the United States and the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, also pointed to the prowess of Iranian negotiators.

“The agreement we reached with Iran in 2015 was the result of hundreds of hours of negotiations with the support of experts of nuclear energy,” Araud explained.

Eligible men will soon be automatically registered for military draft

On March 30, the Selective Service System – the federal agency which oversees the database of men eligible for service in the event of a military draft – submitted a proposed rule for automatic registration to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, according to its website.

The new automatic registration process was approved by Congress under the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026, which President Donald Trump signed into law in December 2025.

According to SSS website, the agency will implement the switch to automatic registration by December, creating a "streamlined registration process and corresponding workforce realignment."

Went to cardiologist today to receive results of all those tests I have been taking. Bad news. Doc says I will be around for a while to come. I'm doing better. Somehow. But a few issues now in arteries which is being cause by smoking. So, gotta stop.

Thanks to you guys I was able to go to the pet store and get GOOD formula and can kitten food along with GOOD kitten dry food. 

That made me very very happy. Thank you.

About 6 weeks I will be looking to have them ready for their new families and that gives me another 2 weeks with em. I really enjoy doing this. I hope you enjoy watching.

They play with me like one of them now. They are all seemingly very healthy and happy and MommaCat is overjoyed when I feed em so they don't gnaw on her nipples.

Israeli attack kills at least 10 near Gaza school in violation of truce

Israeli airstrikes killed at least 10 Palestinians and wounded several others near a school sheltering the displaced in the Gaza Strip on Monday, the latest Israeli violation of the U.S.-brokered cease-fire.

Before ⁠the strikes, some Palestinians had clashed ⁠with members of an Israeli-backed militia, who they said attacked the school in an attempt to abduct some people, medics and residents said.

In the midst of the clashes, east of the Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza ⁠Strip, Israeli drones fired two missiles into the area, killing at least 10 people and wounding several others, they added.

It was not immediately clear how many civilians had been killed in the strikes, which hit in a closely packed neighborhood of mostly displaced Palestinians.

Ahmed al-Maghazi, an eyewitness, said their area was attacked by members of the Israeli-backed militia who operate in the territory adjacent to where the Israeli forces are in control, before the militia opened fire.

"The residents tried to defend their homes, but the occupation forces targeted them directly," he told Reuters.

Later on Monday, a leader of one of the Israeli-backed militias said in ⁠a ⁠video, which Reuters couldn't immediately authenticate, that they killed some five Hamas members...

Iran has declared a "historic and crushing defeat" of the United States and the Israeli regime after 40 days of war, announcing that Washington has been forced to accept a 10-point Iranian proposal that includes a permanent ceasefire, the lifting of all sanctions, and the withdrawal of US combat forces from the region.

US-Israeli attack targets Iran's Sharif University of Technology, causing damage

The US-Israeli war coalition has conducted an attack on Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, in recurring strikes against Iran's academic and civilian infrastructure.

According to reports, the building of the university’s mosque was damaged in the early Monday airstrike.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Tehran’s district 9, Mohsen Dodangeh, said the university’s gas post was also hit in the attack, which led to an explosion.

He added that the gas supply has been cut off temporarily.

The company had not yet rebranded and was known as Facebook, and there had not been any reporting on how children were being trafficked on its platforms. Experts from anti-trafficking nonprofit organisations and an American law enforcement official talked me through the crimes they were seeing.

Much of the trafficking on Facebook and Instagram was happening in non-public areas of the platforms, such as Facebook Messenger and private Instagram accounts, I would learn later. Traffickers were searching for teens to target and groom, and to later advertise to sex buyers.

Sex trafficking is the use of force, fraud or coercion in the buying and selling of non-consensual sex acts, whether or not travel is involved. Under international law, children cannot legally consent to any kind of sex act, therefore anyone who profits from or pays for a sex act from a child – including profiting from or paying for photographs depicting sexual exploitation – is considered a human trafficker...

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps' Aerospace Force hit and downed a United States F-35 stealth fighter jet operating over central Iran, the spokesperson for Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, announced.

"Due to the severe explosion upon impact and crash, it is unlikely that the pilot was able to eject," Zolfaghari said.

Pictures of the F35's debris circulated online, marking at least the second hit Iran scores on the 5th generation stealth fighter. On March 19, the first F-35 was hit by Iran's air defenses, which was also the first time any fifth-generation stealth fighter jet platform was ever hit.

April 3 marks the first time that an F-35 fighter jet was hit and downed over Iran's skies.

Debris analysis, shared by Iran's state-owned broadcaster, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), shows a section of an F-35 vertical tail with a partial US Air Force in Europe print among the debris collected near the crash site...

Hegseth ousts US Army chief of staff and two other generals amid Iran war

(Of note (I mean beyond firing people who disagree with the Glorious One's crusades) the chief of chaplains being fired. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Thursday fired the US Army chief of staff and two other generals as the Iran war continues.

Hegseth told US Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George to retire immediately, a Pentagon official told CNN. He also fired two other Army generals Thursday, a US official said — the chief of chaplains, Maj. Gen. William Green Jr., and the commander of Army Transformation and Training Command, Gen. David Hodne.

Hegseth’s move comes a day after President Donald Trump’s address to the nation on the Iran war. In the speech, Trump signaled the US will intensify strikes on Iran, after earlier suggesting the US could be done with the war within two to three weeks.

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed George’s departure Thursday, writing on X, “General Randy A. George will be retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately. The Department of War is grateful for General George’s decades of service to our nation.”...

A drone-maker backed by Donald Trump’s two oldest sons is trying to sell to Gulf countries while they are under attack by Iran and dependent on the US military led by their father.

The sales drive by Florida-based Powerus – which announced a deal last month to bring aboard Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr – positions the company to potentially benefit from a war that their father began.

“These countries are under enormous pressure to buy from the sons of the president so he will do what they want,” said Richard Painter, a former chief White House ethics lawyer under George W Bush. “This is going to be the first family of a president to make a lot of money off war – a war he didn’t get the consent of Congress for.”

Powerus co-founder Brett Velicovich told the Associated Press that the company is making sales pitches that include drone demonstrations in several Gulf countries to show how its defensive drone interceptors could help them ward off Iranian attacks...
