List of Yellow Vest (Gilets Jaunes) Movement Demands

(I am posting this as a reminder: Bolivia wasn't the first and wont be the last example we should follow)

The French "Yellow Vest" (Gilets Jaunes) movement did not have a single official manifesto. However, a decentralized list of 25 popular demands circulated widely online in late 2018 during grassroots assemblies. These demands focused on the high cost of living, taxation, and democratic reform. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]

 

Core Fiscal and Economic Demands
  • Cancel the planned fuel tax hikes.
  • Raise the minimum wage to ε 1,300 net per month.
  • Cap maximum pensions at ε 1,200 monthly.
  • Exempt overtime hours from all taxation.
  • Create more tax brackets to make income tax more progressive.
  • Reinstate the solidarity tax on wealth (ISF).
  • Impose higher taxes on major multinational corporations (e.g., Google, Amazon, McDonald's).

Social and Labor Policies
  • Implement a massive government-funded housing insulation plan.
  • Ensure a single, unified social security system to replace separate regimes.
  • Require companies with dividends to share profits with workers.
  • Limit temporary labor contracts (CDD) in favor of permanent contracts.
  • Cap all retirement pensions and abolish retirement below full-pension age.

Government and Democracy
  • Institute the Citizens' Initiative Referendum (RIC) to allow public voting on new laws.
  • Limit elected officials to median French salaries.
  • End lifelong perpetual salaries and benefits for ex-presidents.
  • Require blank (protest) votes to be counted officially in elections.
  • Ban elected officials with criminal records from holding public office.

Infrastructure and Environment
  • Protect small village and city centers by halting large commercial retail projects.
  • Provide free parking in city centers.

Trade and Migration
  • Halt the privatization of public infrastructure and services.
  • Reform the asylum process to better integrate or deport applicants
