US threatens Egypt with military aid cuts if Gaza plot rejected
from al Mayadeen English
The US is pressuring Cairo to embrace President Donald Trump’s scheme for Gaza’s post-war future, including the forced displacement of Palestinians to Egypt, according to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, as reported by the Times of Israel.
Quoting Egyptian sources in Washington, the London-based outlet claims that the Pentagon has cautioned Egyptian military officials about potential restrictions on military aid if Cairo refuses to comply with Trump’s plan.
Specifically, the sources indicate that essential supplies for routine maintenance and spare weapons parts could be at risk.
Egypt, on the other hand, has launched an intensive diplomatic push to rally support for an Arab-led initiative to rebuild the Gaza Strip, prioritizing practical solutions over political concerns to counter a widely unpopular plan from US President Donald Trump...

Erdoğan rips Trump’s Gaza plan, blames US missteps for 'atrocity'
from Daily Sabah
U.S. President Donald Trump’s plans to displace Palestinians from Gaza and “take over” the territory would only be a “complete atrocity,” President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said as he repeated his rebuke of Trump’s shocking policy.
“It’s impossible to accept the forced displacement. It would be a complete atrocity,” Erdoğan said, according to a transcript of comments to journalists on a return flight from his tour of Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan.
He said the Trump administration was making "wrong calculations" regarding the Middle East, adding that heeding "Zionist lies" would only exacerbate conflicts.
Türkiye has rejected Trump’s plan to remove more than 2 million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, claim U.S. control of it and turn it into the "Riviera of the Middle East." It has also said Israel's assault on Gaza amounted to a genocide while calling for international measures against its government.
"Unfortunately, the United States is making a wrong calculation about our region. One should not be engaged in an approach that disregards the region's history, values and accumulation," he said...

Israel bombs homes in Jenin as Palestine urges intl. action against West Bank aggression
from PressTV
Israel has conducted a fresh drone attack on the Jenin refugee camp, as the Palestinian foreign ministry urges the international community to take a serious action to stop the regime’s intensified aggression on the occupied West Bank.
In the early hours of Friday, media reports said an Israeli drone targeted homes in the Jenin camp in the northern part of the West Bank.
Since a ceasefire in Gaza was announced last month, Israel has intensified its attacks in Jenin and other parts of the occupied West Bank.
At least 25 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s raids in Jenin this year, which have also displaced nearly 20,000, according to the camp’s media committee.
The Israeli army also continues to destroy homes and infrastructure in the West Bank city of Tulkarm and its two camps...

How Trump’s Medical Research Cuts Would Hit Colleges and Hospitals in Every State
from the NYT
A proposal by the Trump administration to reduce the size of grants for institutions conducting medical research would have far-reaching effects, and not just for elite universities and the coastal states where many are located.
Also at risk could be grants from the National Institutes of Health to numerous hospitals that conduct clinical research on major diseases, and to state universities across the country. North Carolina, Missouri and Pennsylvania could face disproportionate losses, because of the concentration of medical research in those states.
In the 2024 fiscal year, the N.I.H. spent at least $32 billion on nearly 60,000 grants, including medical research in areas like cancer, genetics and infectious disease. Of that, $23 billion went to “direct” research costs, such as microscopes and researchers’ salaries, according to an Upshot analysis of N.I.H. grant data.
The other $9 billion went to the institutions’ overhead, or “indirect costs,” which can include laboratory upkeep, utility bills, administrative staff and access to hazardous materials disposal, all of which research institutions say is essential to making research possible.
The N.I.H. proposal, which has been put on hold by a federal court, aims to reduce funding for those indirect costs to a set 15 percent rate that the administration says would save about $4 billion a year...

Trump Officials Escalate Layoffs, Targeting Most of 200,000 Workers on Probation
from the NYT
Layoffs cascaded through the federal government on Thursday after its human resources division advised agencies to terminate most of an estimated 200,000 workers on probation, a sharp escalation in the Trump administration’s drive to overhaul and shrink the federal work force.
Among the largest layoffs reported on Thursday was one announced by the Department of Veterans Affairs, which dismissed more than 1,000 employees, including probationary workers who had worked at the agency for less than two years. Employees at several other agencies also reported receiving termination notices, though the full extent of the cuts in many departments was not immediately clear.
Regardless, the layoffs could mark a major increase in the scale of the Trump administration’s efforts to shed federal workers and reshape government. The administration had already said that about 75,000 workers had accepted an offer to resign in exchange for being paid through September, but the removal of most workers on probation, generally recent hires who have been in their roles less than a year, could cut much deeper into the federal government’s civilian work force of 2.3 million...

From the Mouths of Babes: What Did 'X' Say to Trump that Made Him So Uncomfortable?
Kids say the darndest things don't they? Elon's kid 'X' said something to Trump to make him suddenly look away. What was it? Did it have something to do with why he shushed his daddy during that interview with Tucker Carlson?
