with aid from the CIA, Mexican federal police (notoriously corrupt) surrounded cartel leader's secret home on feb 20 and killed him in the ensuing gunfight. this cartel leader had been with the police years before and was corrupt. he ended up being arrested and sent to the US where he served a little time but then somehow ended up being released... and sent back to Mexico where he was set up with his own nifty new cartel. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm,

'Several major US and international banks operating in the US have faced significant penalties for past compliance failures that allowed vast sums of cartel money to be laundered through their systems: 

• HSBC: In 2012, HSBC paid a $1.9 billion fine for allowing Mexican drug cartels to launder nearly $881 million through its US subsidiary. The bank's Mexican affiliate had shipped billions in cash to the US without adequate oversight.
• Wachovia Bank: This bank (now part of Wells Fargo) was found to have laundered approximately $378.4 billion for Mexican cartels between 2007 and 2010, receiving a $160 million penalty.
• TD Bank: In 2024, TD Bank was hit with over $3 billion in penalties after prosecutors found its systems were used to launder more than $470 million through Chinese money laundering networks (CMLNs) working with cartels in New York and New Jersey'
