Oman’s foreign minister has claimed that a negotiated agreement between the United States and Iran to avert war was within reach, suggesting that the war was not the result of failed diplomacy but of a deliberate decision to abandon it.
In an article published in The Economist, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, who mediated indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, described the war as a “catastrophe” and said the US administration under President Donald Trump had “lost control of its own foreign policy.”
His remarks come amid growing evidence that talks had reached an advanced stage in the days leading up to the war.
