The Truth Behind Naming Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a “Terrorist” Organization (archive)

(archived from Aug 17 2007)

by Scott Creighton

So, we have waited around and blogged and waved signs on street corners; we have hopped up and down while some little radio personality chanted “Inside job” on a megaphone… and the entire time this administration and it’s enablers, on both sides of the legislature, have been setting the stage for another pre-emptive strike in another sovereign nation, for oil and profits. And who is this criminal organization that supports “terrorists”?  None other than Islamic Revolution’s Guards Corp; the largest branch of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s military. Something akin to the U.S. Army. But they also control the Basij. The Basij Resistance Force, as it is also known, is the all volunteer paramilitary established by the Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979. They have a standing force of about 400,000 in active and reserve forces (think their reserves have been called up?) but the really interesting thing is that they have a volunteer base that numbers somewhere close to 11 million! That’s right; 11 fucking million! Now you add that the IRGC regulars and the other armed services branches and you start to see that the surge wasn’t nearly enough!

And President Bush is poking the hornets nest with someone else’s stick. He’s positioned 160,000 of our troops in a country that already hates us and now he’s decreed  that the legitimate armed forces of Iran are “terrorists“. Why? Why would he set up our troops like that? Because someone (Chalibi?) says that they supply bomb material to Iraqi Insurgency? Because they trained some Hamas soldiers a few years ago? They have secret services divisions?

We secretly gave Israel 9 nukes that they still wink and nod about but won’t openly admit. Nukes. Not to mention the 30 billion in military aid we just signed the paperwork to give them this week (20 billion to Saudi Arabia (remember: 15 hijackers and Osama?)). Hell, Pakistan sent $100,000 to Atta right before the attacks, and they are now the #2 recipient of military aid from the US.

We trained Al Qaeda and sent money, weapons, and fighters to help them and the Taliban take Afghanistan from the Russians (and the Afghanis). Anybody remember the picture of Rumsfeld and Saddam? Taken right before we shipped materials for biological weapons of mass destruction to Iraq.

We have fought so many covert wars and funded so many terrorist attacks in the past 50 years it is sickening. But now, we have our own, no-holds-barred private army for profit in Blackwater. These guys have no rules of engagement and the lawless approach they are taking in Iraq is not only killing civilians there, but also making things much more difficult on our soldiers.

There was even the plan “Operation Northwoods” in 1962 where our own government came up with a plan to attack our own citizens in order to make it look like Cuba sis it, so we could go to war. That plan made it all the way to the White House Desk of the President, before it was shot down. It is claimed that President Kennedy thought it was some kind of joke. You see what that got him, don’t you?

So why all this effort to make the legitimate soldiers of another country a “terrorist organization”? Because, legally, he can attack terrorist organizations without congressional approval, that’s why. He would have to get some sort of congressional approval from the congress to invade Iran (unless there is another “New Pearl Harbor” they can tie into Iran) a sovereign nation. But if he declares that they are a terrorist organization, he doesn’t have to. Bush and company have a free hand and a legal loophole to dive into if things go bad. All he has to do is lie to the American people one more time. And, for the most part, we will let him.

Presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich is hopping up and down about this. We should remember the last time he was hopping up and down trying to get the attention of the media and us; it was in March of 2003, the week before the invasion of Iraq. He was trying any means he could to get the House to stop the war.

And like the Senate did when they ignored the members of the Black Caucus as they tried to get one single signature from the senate to keep from validating Bush’s illegal 2000 election, no one was listening to Dennis in 2003 either. He went on screaming in the dark about an illegal war, and no-one was paying attention.

Well, he is at it again. And guess how many other candidates are out there with him? None. Absolutely none.

This war is what the Neocons want. This war is what the investment class wants. This war is what the lobbyist for the defense contractors want. And so, this war is what the mainstream Democratic nominees want. Who doesn’t want it? The Iranians, the Iraqis, the poor, the soldiers, the families of the soldiers, the reservists, the moderates, the middle class, the working class, the young people who will be drafted (unless they are lucky enough to be born into the Mitt Romney class and they can do their national service by driving around the country in a recreational vehicle stumping for daddy. Kinda like Bush 43 did for his daddy).

Who doesn’t want this war? The American people, for the most part. But we already know what this administration thinks of them. Just look up anything they have dome since taking office, and you get the picture pretty damn quick.

And how does this administration argue that our 160k troops will fare against 11 million Iranian Soldiers and an Iraqi insurgency that has them surrounded? Do you think the coalition of the willing is still “willing”? The willing are gone. Even the Brits may be pulling out. Getting a little to sickening and Imperial for them; and that is saying a lot.

So, what is the truth behind this move? Raytheon and Lockheed Martin and Boeing and GM and all the other profiteers will be engaged in the “long war” profit ratio for a very long time; Big oil will move closer to the domination of the Peak Oil crisis (real or imagined); and the only way to wage a war against such a stacked enemy will be to carpet bomb entire cities with cluster bombs, white phosphorous, and even bunker buster mini-nukes.

That’s right boys and girls, Eisenhower’s warnings have fallen on deaf ears and the Military Congressional Industrial Complex has won. Their war against us is over, and now they are moving East.

Of course, we are on the corners with the signs and the freeway banners and the bullhorns hopping up and down. Might I suggest we may have come to that point where peaceful protests are not going to get it done? I don’t know about you, but I don’t think the drum circles are working and if you want to wait till the next rigged election to “choose” between Hillary and Rudy, you go right ahead. But your kids will have been drafted by then, and the US will have killed possibly millions in Iran.
