It would appear that Mr. Greenwald has gone off the deep-end so to speak and is flailing about in the dark waters of desperation trying to keep his head (and more important, his brand credibility) above water.
Glenn is running around pointing his crooked little finger at “the media” claiming they were the most daunting threat to him and his invisible boy, “Edward Snowden”, keeping them from speaking “truth to power”.
Only in a world so convoluted, where the historical record is constantly manipulated and altered daily, could such a public figure utter such contrived nonsense without being laughed off a studio set by his interviewer while the techies pelt him with random garbage.
According to Russia Today, he denounced journalists in the United States and Britain, accusing them of failing to challenge those in political power and of discrediting anyone who dared to do so.
“[W]e knew in particular that one of our most formidable adversaries was not simply going to be the intelligence agencies on which we were reporting and who we were trying to expose, but also their most loyal, devoted servants, which calls itself the United States and British media,” Greenwald said.
He said that the NSA programs came to light “almost entirely without them and despite them.” Their role as journalists, Greenwald claimed, “is not to be adversarial, their role is to be loyal spokespeople to those powerful factions that they pretend to exercise oversight.” Huffington Post
Glenn is upset because it has become obvious to most that he has taken on the role of spokesman for the privatization of the NSA, a plan once called CISPA, and to that end, he is fronting for the intelligence op running under the guise of “Edward Snowden”
Sibel Edmonds famously challenged Mr. Greenwald recently pointing out his financial interests in this little project which are considerable. A 250 million dollar “news” project hangs in the balance for Mr. Greenwald as long as he clings onto his “leaks” and manages to weather this most recent storm with his tattered brand credibility intact.
The irony of Mr. Greenwald’s claims goes beyond bold, reaching for the psychotic.
As he claims to be working to expose these programs on our behalf, what he is actually doing is preparing the libertarians and the progressives (groups he simultaneously pretends to represent because these are the two factions most responsible for the defeat of CISPA) to accept the same reforms that were handily defeated a year and a half ago, CISPA, and which are being presented this very day as “fixes” to the Snowden psyop.
So when he says “their role is to be loyal spokespeople to those powerful factions that they pretend to exercise oversight.“, his hubris is enough to make me gag. Simply put, he thinks we’re not smart enough to see it.
As offensive as that is, Glenn goes on to make an even more ridiculous claim, that the MSM has been HAMPERING their efforts to “speak the truth” to the American people. Nothing could be further from the truth.
When this operation took off, Glenn as the front-man for the Snowden Project had deals with the three biggest MSM outlets in three different countries they wanted to inflict with this program: the Washington Post (U.S.), Guardian (U.K.) and Der Spiegel (Germany).
You don’t get more mainstream than those three establishment supporting outlets which are still to this day carrying water for the CISPA agenda like Glenn is.
From there, the rest of the media fell in line producing for these “leaks” more ink and air-time than any of the previous, REAL whistle-blowers saw… EVER.
EVER
It’s not even close. Not even in contention. Even Mr. Greenwald himself ignored the real whistle-blowers over the years just as he accuses the current MSM of doing right now with the Snowden Psyop.
But of course as we all know, the mainstream media took the ball and ran with the Snowden PR as if the billionaires that own them wanted CISPA (because they do)
Therefore, Glenn’s claim is beyond dubious.
But you can kind of understand it as Glenn is in a tizzy right now because Edmonds exposed how he was SELLING his leaks to various MAIN STREAM MEDIA OUTLETS at thousands of dollars a pop and they were printing his propaganda without question as the gospel truth.
He has become such a MEDIA DARLING while selling someone else’s “leaks” as if they belonged to him, another billionaire has adopted him and is setting him up with his own quarter billion-dollar media outlet which will serve as the new “legitimate” alternative news site once CISPA shuts down any real ones out here.
For him to say the “media” has forsaken him and this effort in an effort to thwart it, is BEYOND STUPID. It’s revisionist at best, marketing at worst.
What he wants is to present his little project as some kind of alternative movement when in fact it is quite the opposite.
You can understand the reasoning behind his efforts when you look at the larger picture.
He needs to maintain that “truth to power” (God, I hate that stupid phrase) brand he has been desperately trying to fabricate ever since he left his job at the globalist mergers and acquisitions law-firm he worked for to start up his little blog at Salon (another MEDIA outlet that inexplicably gave him a pulpit from which to preach his controlled opposition “dissent” for no apparent reason)
Glen and his billionaire sugar-daddy have a lot riding on this, that’s for sure. But moreover, there are 800 major corporations backing the passage of the CISPA plan that have even more at stake.
Were Glenn’s efforts to be exposed, were the general public to come to understand that what he has been advocating all along is the privatization of 4th amendment violations by for-profit institutions that wish to secure their death-grip on what Lincoln called “the great experiment”, then in fact, it wouldn’t just be over… the companies themselves would pay the ultimate price along with Glenn’s dreams of being the next Arianna Huffington (who ironically, also a far-right republican turned “progressive”, also rode a billionaire (literally) to her “alternative” website)
You see, people don’t like it when they find out they’ve been played. They tend to shop or get their news elsewhere once that trust is gone.
Mr. Greenwald’s latest diatribe has a distinct smell of desperation permeating from it’s pours like an alcoholic painter oozes whiskey-sweat on Monday morning.
His painfully obvious attempt to re-write history in such a blatant manner makes one wonder if he’s simply lost his marbles as he sees his “adversarial journalism” empire slipping from his greedy little fingers. Credibility is the only bargaining chip he brings to the table in his new deal with Daddy Warbucks. Once that is gone, Glenny’s gonna have to go back to running gay porn sites like “Hairy studs” or whatever it was he did before become the manufactured hero of the “progressive” media.
Or maybe he’ll go back to that globalist law-firm he worked for.
You expect a big payoff if you help change public opinion in such a dramatic fashion as to get CISPA passed after the debacle it cause a year and a half ago. A quarter of a billion dollar media empire fits the bill, doesn’t it?
You have to have quite a good education to miss the obvious these days, either that or a worthless one.
I pity anyone sitting around waiting for Glenn’s “truth to power” network to open it’s doors. Maybe he and his owner should call it “Hairy Stud’s Ministry of Truth”
