Last night on Israel’s Channel 10 news, Glenn was standing up for Israel’s demand that Pollard is released due to the Snowden Psyop.
“I think you are absolutely right to contrast the Jonathan Pollard case with Americans spying on their closest allies within the Israeli government because it does underscore the hypocrisy” Glenn Greenwald
Let’s walk this one through a bit… Pollard was arrested and convicted of selling stolen top-secret NSA files to foreign assets and handing some over for free to big-time financial interests in exchange for future profits (not to mention trying to trade some of them to various countries in exchange for them providing weapons to what would later be known as “al Qaeda”)… and Glenn is currently in the business of selling stolen top-secret NSA files to foreign assets (Der Speigel and the Guardian) and promising to hand some over to big-time financial interests in exchange for future profits (Daddy Warbuck’s “news” network)
hmmmm…..
The RT story about this latest development reads like a press release put together by Greenwald and Alan Dershowitz. To say that it is lacking in historical facts surrounding the Jonathan Pollard case is like saying “Jaws” was a story about a big fish. It doesn’t quite do it justice.
The irony of a guy selling stolen secrets voicing his support for a guy doing time for the exact same thing, is remarkable.
But what’s really interesting is the fact that it seems, once you look a little closer, Mr. Greenwald is again doing the bidding of the Obama administration by setting the stage for yet another unpopular administration move (CISPA being the first) … pardoning Jonathan Pollard.
Glenn Greenwald is promising more “leaks” in the future, big “leaks”, attention grabbing, magazine and newspaper selling “leaks” for his new sugar-daddy’s news network. Big doins he says. But don’t expect them to come out any faster. All that important stuff the people need to know will continue to dribble out as he and his boyfriend get paid.
“I don’t want to preview any stories that aren’t yet published, but it’s definitely the case that there are a huge number of very significant stories that are left to report,” the Brazil-based Greenwald said, adding that the journalists will continue releasing stories “at roughly the same pace that has been happening.” RT
Oh, almost forgot… he says Israel is involved in those future “leaks” and that the Likudniks are right to link the “Snowden” psyop to their demands that Obama pardon Jonathan Pollard.
“There definitely are stories left that involve the Middle East, that involve Israel. The reporting is going to continue at roughly the same pace that has been happening,” the former Guardian journalist said in an interview with Channel 10 television station that aired Monday night…
… Greenwald said Israel was “absolutely right” in linking the NSA spying to the Jonathan Pollard case because “it does underlie, underscore exactly the hypocrisy that lies at the center of so much of what the US government does.”
“When the US government goes around the world criticizing other countries for spying on allies and prosecuting them, are they going to maintain that with a straight face when they’re doing exactly that?” the journalist wondered…
… Does the United States government think that Angela Merkel is a terrorist or that Israel’s democratically elected officials are involved in terrorism?” Greenwald wrapped up.” RT
Israel? Terrorism? Is Glenn joking? Or maybe he’s using his special lawyer powers of deliberate trickeration (the “democratically elected” officials being involved as opposed to the Mossad and the IDF?)
First of all, the story about some of the “Snowden leaks” detailing the NSA spying on high level Israeli officials comes from an exclusive DEBKA File story. DEBKA, for those of you who don’t know, is the IDF’s and the MOSSAD’s propaganda outlet. Most of the stories from that source are complete bullshit and they are ALWAYS in the service of Israel’s interests.
According to an exclusive report by the Israeli news agency, Debka, specializing in intelligence and security news, after 2009 Washington introduced “a high-powered, multilayered system of intelligence-gathering” – especially against Israel, about which neither Snowden nor the Israelis have been forthcoming. This system, the agency claimed, had a “single narrow focus: to pick up the slightest murmur or clue suggesting that Israel was about to launch an attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, which it had threatened to do without prior notice to Washington.”
“Listening in on the laconic conversations Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu held with Ehud Barak was not enough. What the spies were told to look for was out-of-the-way conduct, such as an order placed suddenly for a large quantity of aircraft fuel, or the import of an unusual amount of emergency medical equipment,” Debka’s report concluded. RT
If DEBKA is publicly saying the NSA was listening in on their prime minister’s conversations you can bet your bottom dollar they weren’t.
Even more problematic in this RT story is the way in which they reference the Jonathan Pollard story itself as if it were written by Alan Dersowitz himself (which is nothing more than the defense team’s version of the story). They phrase the story in such a way as to completely white-wash Pollard’s actions, framing it in such a way as to make it appear he was doing nothing more than providing Israel with intel on countries who were planning on attacking them. That wasn’t the case. There is also no mention of Pollard taking money from the Israelis in exchange for the intel, which apparently the Israelis sold or used as a bargaining chip with the Soviet Union.
Here’s part of Seymour Hersh’s article from 1999 titled Why Pollard Should Never Be Released (The Traitor)
“A number of officials strongly suspect that the Israelis repackaged much of Pollard’s material and provided it to the Soviet Union in exchange for continued Soviet permission for Jews to emigrate to Israel. Other officials go further, and say there was reason to believe that secret information was exchanged for Jews working in highly sensitive positions in the Soviet Union. A significant percentage of Pollard’s documents, including some that described the techniques the American Navy used to track Soviet submarines around the world, was of practical importance only to the Soviet Union. One longtime C.I.A. officer who worked as a station chief in the Middle East said he understood that “certain elements in the Israeli military had used it” — Pollard’s material — “to trade for people they wanted to get out,” including Jewish scientists working in missile technology and on nuclear issues. Pollard’s spying came at a time when the Israeli government was publicly committed to the free flow of Jewish emigres from the Soviet Union. The officials stressed the fact that they had no hard evidence — no “smoking gun,” in the form of a document from an Israeli or a Soviet archive — to demonstrate the link between Pollard, Israel, and the Soviet Union, but they also said that the documents that Pollard had been directed by his Israeli handlers to betray led them to no other conclusion.” Why Pollard Should Never Be Released (The Traitor)
The Jonathan Pollard story is quite extensive actually. He was trying to work deals all over the place with his stolen NSA info, just like Glenn Greenwald is currently doing. In Jonathan’s case, he was attempting to get countries to commit to helping provide weapons to TERRORISTS in Afghanistan (oh the f*cking IRONY, huh Glenn?) to destabilize that country in exchange for top-secret files. The TERRORISTS turned out later to go by the name of AL QAEDA in some circles, Reagan’s “Freedom Fighters” in others.
“Before Pollard’s plea bargain, the government had been preparing a multi-count criminal indictment that included-along with espionage, drug, and tax-fraud charges — allegations that before his arrest Pollard had used classified documents in an unsuccessful attempt to persuade the governments of South Africa, Argentina, and Taiwan to participate in an arms deal for anti-Communist Afghan rebels (a.k.a. “al Qaeda”) who were then being covertly supported by the Reagan Administration. F.B.I. investigators later determined that in the fall of 1985 Pollard had also consulted with three Pakistanis and an Iranian in his efforts to broker arms. (The foreigners were quietly deported within several months of his arrest.) Why Pollard Should Never Be Released (The Traitor)
Yes, Jonathan Pollard stole top-secret files (or was part of an undercover op and given them) and SOLD them to Israel who ended up selling them or trading them to our sworn enemy, the Soviet Union and was even trying to arrange deals to trade them to foreign nations, some of them enemies of the state at that time, in exchange for them providing WEAPONS TO AL QAEDA.
Funny how RT forgot to mention all of that.
Full details of the information that Pollard stole and sold/traded away was never released to the public. Pollard cut a deal so the general public would never know the kinds of details that the Sy Hersh investigation brought forth. At that time, finding out his stolen info ended up in the hands of the Soviets via our “special friend” Israel, would have been very bad for all kinds of businesses… not to mention it would have ensured Pollard’s death.
But Jonathan was always loyal to Mother Israel so he took one for the team so to speak (either that or he’s currently living a quiet life in Tel Aviv)
Pollard grew up with what he called a “racial obligation” to Israel,[13] and made his first trip to Israel in 1970, as part of a science program visiting the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot. While there, he was hospitalized after a fight with another student. One Weizmann scientist remembered Pollard as leaving behind “a reputation of being an unstable troublemaker, the worst case of this kind in the history of the summer camp”.[14]
After completing high school, Pollard attended Stanford University, where he completed a degree in political science in 1976.[12] While there, he is remembered by several of his acquaintances as boasting that he was a dual citizen of the United States and Israel and claiming to work for the Mossad and to have attained the rank of colonel in the Israel Defense Forces. None of these claims were true.[15][16][17] Wikipedia
It’s not surprising that the Likudniks and Israel-firsters are currently trying to use the Snowden Psyop to their advantage. Some might say it was inevitable that someone somewhere in Israel would attempt to use the popular support for “Snowden” and Greenwald to their advantage championing the “Pardon Pollard” cause.
What’s interesting however is the fact that it might not be purely just a MOSSAD PR campaign:
Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to the Middle East in the first week of the new year amid a flurry of reports in the Israeli press that he has said he would consider freeing convicted spy Jonathan Pollard.
Israel’s Channel 10 TV station first reported Friday that Kerry offered to free Pollard as part of an exchange for the release of a fourth group of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails as peace talks resume between the two sides. The third of four groups is scheduled to be released Monday, the Jerusalem Post reported. Fox News
After a lengthy debate at the Knesset Wednesday, an overwhelming 106 of the 120 Knesset members signed off on an official request to Obama to free Pollard, who is a dual US-Israeli citizen.
Their letter is slated to be sent directly to Obama in the coming days, while Knesset Speaker Edelstein will also pass on a copy to the US Senate and a delegation of Knesset members will present the request to the US ambassador in Israel, Dan Shapiro.
“The Israeli Knesset is turning to the US President Barack Obama to request, on humanitarian and humanistic grounds, in light of his grave medical condition, to limit the sentence of Jonathan Pollard and order his immediate release,” read the decision from Wednesday’s debate. Times of Israel Dec. 27th 2013
So, no sooner does the Obama administration get their little letter from Israel regarding a pardon for a national traitor then up jumps Glenn Greenwald to parrot the AIPAC talking points like the good little Hasbara agent he is.
Is this little episode all about prepping the left and the “libertarians” for Pollard’s triumphant return to Israel? It’s hard to say at this point. We’ll have to wait to see how it shakes out.
But the irony of Greenwald shillin for Pollard isn’t lost on me. Hope it isn’t lost on you folks.
