Avigdor Lieberman Resigns Following Announcement of Investigation into Bus Attack

Avigdor Lieberman says he is resigning because he is angry about the ceasefire agreement signed yesterday. There have been many such agreements signed during his tenure. Why didn't resign when they were signed? More likely, he is resigning as a result of Israeli press and IDF conducting an investigation into the invisible anti-tank rocket attack on that bus that was parked "like a sitting duck" right next to the Gaza fence.

Hamas Bus Attack: Israeli Army Tries to Distance Itself From Security Failure  HAARTZ

The army has tried to evade responsibility for the incident in which an empty bus that transported soldiers minutes earlier was hit by an anti-tank missile fired from Gaza as it parked at an observation post near the border...

Israel was aware of the possibility that Hamas could attempt to fire at Israeli soldiers near the border amid rising tensions...

When the bus arrived at a Military Police checkpoint in the area, it proceeded on with the approval of commanders...

On Tuesday the army announced that it had established an investigative  team headed by the commander of border defenses, Brig. Gen. Amir Abstein, to examine the incident.

The incident on Monday in which an IDF soldier was seriously injured by an anti-tank missile fired by Hamas could have apparently been prevented.

The head of IDF Ground Forces Maj. Gen. Kobi Barak ordered an investigation into the incident at the Black Arrow memorial site in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, a few hundreds meters from the Gaza fence...

According to Channel 10 news, the bus that was hit in the strike had initially been prevented from entering the Black Arrow memorial site out of security concerns, but was eventually allowed in.

However, this did not account for the other military vehicles and soldiers who could be seen at the site and were similarly unprotected from anti-tank missiles, apparently in violation of military protocol.

The investigation into the troops’ actions will be led by Brig. Gen. Amir Ebstein, commander of the IDF’s Border Defense Array...

The driver of the bus carrying IDF soldiers that was hit by an anti-tank missile fired by Hamas is reported to have lied to military police and bypassed IDF checkpoints to enter the Black Arrow site, Walla!News reported.

According to Walla!, military police officers closed the site following orders signed by Southern Command Head Maj.-Gen. Hertzi Halevi over concerns that Hamas would carry out a sniper or anti-tank missile attack...

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman resigns over Hamas ceasefire Jerusalem Post

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman announced his resignation and his Yisrael Beytenu party’s withdrawal from the coalition at a press conference in the Knesset Wednesday.

"I am indeed here to announce my resignation from the position of defense minister," Liberman said, immediately after a faction meeting.

 “I have tried to remain a faithful member of the Cabinet and to make heard another view, even at a great electoral and political price," Liberman said. However, Tuesday's ceasefire with Hamas “cannot be interpreted in any way other than a surrender to terror," he added. "This will severely harm our security in the long term.”
