As if we needed more evidence that Wikileaks is simply a psyop program designed to help promote various propaganda operations across the intel community’s “to do” list, a recent “leak” makes the case that though CIA assassination programs are an “important part” of the unilateral actions taken in Pakistan, they by themselves, will not be enough to stem the threat of future nuclear terrorism.
This “leak”, naively being hailed as important by various starry-eyed left-wing Assange fans, details yet another key part of the U.S. plan for Pakistan; complete “regime change” in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, bringing them under control of Pakistan, but only after Pakistan itself becomes more west-friendly, a.k.a. “stable”. In short, it calls for a kind of Pakistani “surge”.
“Al-Qaeda can operate in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) largely because the Taliban-related groups in these areas continue to challenge the writ of the Pakistani government. Unilateral targeting of al-Qaeda operatives and assets in these regions is an important component of dealing with the overall threat. It is not/not, however, sufficient in and of itself to force al-Qaeda out of the FATA, so long as the territory remains largely ungoverned space…To be effective, we must extend the writ of the Pakistani state into the FATA in such a way that Taliban groups can no longer offer effective protection to al-Qaeda from Pakistan’s own security and law enforcement agencies in these areas.”

While certain left-leaning news sites are trying to spin this so that it seems like it’s a positive Wikileaks disclosure by claiming the memo reports that our policies are destabilizing the region, that only tells half the story. In fact, Ambassador Patterson is clearly calling for a stepped up engagement in Pakistan, with multiple “agencies” for several years to come.

This goes hand in hand with recent calls from the war-mongering globalists that we have to step-up our military action in Pakistan and Obama’s increased CIA “black op” activity in the country.
Unlike the conclusions reached in articles by the likes of Fred Branfman over at Truthdig, I see this “leak” as less of an indictment of our involvement in Pakistan than it is a call for more. What Patterson is saying is that even though the drone strikes and renditions are working, they need to be complimented with a complete regime change so that we can install a “west friendly” government that won’t pose a threat to our “national interests” once we are done cleansing Afghanistan.
It’s simply not true that the tribal areas are “ungoverned space”.
“The mainly Pashtun tribes that inhabit the areas are fiercely independent and peaceful. Until friction following the fall of the Taliban in neighbouring Afghanistan, the tribes had friendly relations with Pakistan’s central government.[6] These Tribes are governed by the Collective Punishment or Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR), introduced under the British Raj.
People of FATA are represented both in the National Assembly of Pakistan by 12 independent Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) who are elected. They are represented in the Senate of Pakistan by eight senators who are selected by these 12 MNAs…” Wikipedia
And the important thing to remember here is our reason for being there in the first place and how that relates to what they call “stability in the region”
The TAPI pipeline deal is some thing that has been in the works for years prior to 9/11 and was actually being negotiated in June of 2001. Just recently a new deal was signed and the projected completion date is in 2014 (the exact same year Obama says we will be “leaving” Afghanistan)
One of the reasons we don’t like Iran is because they have their own pipeline deal worked out with India and Pakistan. Condi Rice tried to kill that deal, which I am sure, made Chevron very happy. The LNG pipeline, called the ”Peace Pipeline”, is still in the works with Iran and Pakistan signing an agreement in June of 2010. With Iran nearing completion of their leg of the pipeline, it certainly puts Hillary Clinton’s constant calls for more Iranian sanctions into perspective, doesn’t it?
This recent leak is just more propaganda designed to ultimately help provide a tapestry of conventional wisdom on why we need to convert Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas into yet another oppressed client state for our corporate masters. If you go back and look at the liberal Truthdig article, you will find it spreads the “gloom and doom” rhetoric about as well as Fox News did back in 2002 about Iran.

And that is the beauty of Wikileaks as a psyop program; as long as their frontman is still marketable to the left, journalists like Fred will continue to cherry-pick whatever info he can from these leaks in order to make them seem useful and relevant. While they do that, they simply help create a history of distorted information and thus a foundation to build a case for yet another illegal regime change. This time, without the possibility that in the future, they will be accused of lying us into yet another war.
