During a hearing in the senate a few days ago, Bernie Sanders exposed RFK Jr. as the heartless neoliberal he really is.

When asked if healthcare should be considered a human right in America like it is in almost every single nation on the planet, RFK Jr. dusted off the old neoliberal talking point that smokers cost their neighbors money therefore it should not. 

That's right folks. You can't have universal healthcare because something less than 11% of our population smokes a cigarette every day or every other day.

'In 2022, approximately 11.6% of U.S. adults reported currently smoking cigarettes. This means that roughly 1 in 9 adults in the United States smokes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 28.8 million adults currently smoke cigarettes, according to the CDC.

Current cigarette smoking was defined as smoking ≥100 cigarettes during a lifetime and now smoking cigarettes either every day or some days.' source

The 11.6% number was from 2022 so since the number of smokers decreases every year it's clear that number is lower now in 2025.

Dirty smokers. Yes, insurance companies want smokers demonized at every chance. Seems RFK Jr. is glad to oblige them.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders led congressional progressives on Friday in condemning the Trump administration's arrest of a county judge in Wisconsin for allegedly helping an undocumented man evade capture by federal immigration agents.

FBI agents arrested 65-year-old Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan, who faces felony charges of obstruction and concealing an individual, whom she is accused of giving refuge in her chambers as federal officers sought to arrest him.

In a statement accusing President Donald Trump of "illegally usurping congressional powers," Sanders (I-Vt.) said: "Let's be clear. Trump's arrest of Judge Dugan in Milwaukee has nothing to do with immigration. It has everything to do with his moving this country toward authoritarianism."

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has sponsored Joint Resolutions of Disapproval over some of Trump’s continued backing of Netanyahu.

“As a result of Israel’s blocking of humanitarian aid into Gaza, many thousands of children there face malnutrition and even starvation,” Sanders said. “Sadly, and illegally, much of the carnage in Gaza has been carried out with U.S.-provided military equipment. Providing more offensive weapons to continue this disastrous war would violate U.S. and international law.”

Among the weapons included in the resolution are 35,000 two-thousand-pound bombs, which have caused thousands of civilian casualties over the past 18 months. The international outcry over these war crimes was so great that even President Joe Biden suspended their shipment last spring. Trump insisted that such arms shipments should be resumed, however, and the majority of Senate Democrats are supporting him.

Indeed, only 14 Democratic Senators voted for Sanders’ resolutions to block the transfer of these and other deadly weapons.

This was not a result of political pressure. Only 15% of Americans and just 5% of Democrats support additional military aid to Israel. Senate offices were flooded with calls to support the resolutions in a campaign organized by a wide array of peace, human rights, and religious organizations. Despite this, more than 70% of Senate Democrats sided with Trump and the arms industry over the wishes of their constituents.

The truth is that a number of Democratic members of Congress, whom millions of people see as leading the resistance, actually ally with Trump on foreign policy...

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) took aim at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu again on Sunday, saying that Israel’s actions in Gaza are “ethnic cleansing.”

Sanders reiterated his familiar call on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday to hold Netanyahu responsible for Israel’s actions in Gaza, pointing to the staggering death toll and the displacement of Palestinians in the region. He was asked to respond to the ongoing pro-Palestinian protests that have broken out on college campuses across the country and to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) remarks last week when visiting Columbia University.

“What I think the essential point that Ilhan made is that we do not want to see antisemitism in this country. And I think the word ‘genocide’ is something that is being determined by the International Court of Justice,” he said.

US senate rejects resolution on Israeli human rights violations in Gaza, military aid

The US Senate has overwhelmingly rejected a proposed resolution that would have made military aid to Israel conditional to whether the regime is committing human rights violations in its war against the besieged Gaza Strip.

The resolution put forward by Senator Bernie Sanders failed to pass on Wednesday with 11 votes in favor and 72 votes against it, effectively killing the motion.

"We must ensure that US aid is being used in accordance with human rights and our own laws," Sanders said in a speech before the vote.

He went on to say that the vote was "necessary because of the scale of destruction in Gaza," describing Israel's operations in Gaza as a "humanitarian catastrophe."

He also stressed that Israel does not have a right to use military assistance from the United States to go to war against the entire Palestinian people.

In a statement before the vote, Senator Chris Coons (D-Del.) said he opposed the resolution because it "directly put at risk ongoing US support for Israel while they are at war” with the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham also said, "This resolution is not only off-base, it's dangerous. It sends absolutely the wrong signal at the wrong time."...
