US blocks Palestinian leader from attending UN meeting in New York

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has been blocked from attending the UN General Assembly session in New York next month, after he and 80 other Palestinian officials had their visas revoked, the US State Department has said.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio blamed them for undermining peace efforts and for seeking "the unilateral recognition of a conjectural Palestinian state".

The decision, welcomed by Israel, is unusual as the US is expected to facilitate travel for officials of all countries wishing to visit the UN headquarters.

Donald Trump said Friday that the U.S. would "take care of" the situation in Gaza, telling reporters that people in the blockaded Palestinian territory were starving.

"We're looking at Gaza, and we're going to get that taken care of. A lot of people are starving," the president told reporters.

The brief comments came as Trump concluded the final leg of a multiday tour of Gulf countries.

Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza for more than two months, prompting U.N. agencies and humanitarian groups to warn of dwindling fuel and medicine supplies in the territory of 2.4 million Palestinians.

Israel has repeatedly denied that there is a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, despite the dire situation there as a result of its blockade.

Trump's remarks came a day after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed openness to new proposals for delivering aid to Gaza, following widespread criticism of a U.S.- and Israeli-backed plan.

Rubio Announces Major Cuts at State Dept., Accusing It of ‘Radical’ Ideology

Secretary of State Marco Rubio unveiled a plan on Tuesday to make major cuts to the State Department as part of a restructuring, calling the government’s diplomatic agency “bloated, bureaucratic” and “beholden to radical political ideology.”

Mr. Rubio released the plan in the form of an organizational chart and a brief official statement. The move is the latest by the Trump administration to reduce and reshape the government to a degree unseen in generations, which critics call a shortsightedly blunt assault on the federal bureaucracy.

The announcement on Tuesday is only the first step in an overhaul of the department. It focused on changes to operations in Washington, but the cuts will affect the work of embassies and consulates overseas. Closures of diplomatic missions and layoffs abroad are expected later, according to U.S. officials and earlier leaked memos.

Rubio defends revoking visa of Turkish student over Israel criticism

The United States has revoked the visa of Turkish student Rumeysa Öztürk, Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday confirmed as he defended her arrest over her article criticizing Israel.

"We revoked her visa," Rubio told a news conference in Guyana, referring to Öztürk's F1 student visa. "We give you a visa to come and study and get a degree, not to become a social activist that tears up our university campuses."

Rubio defended the decision, saying foreign students engaging in activism that disrupts university life would face similar consequences.

"If you apply for a visa to enter the United States and be a student, and you tell us that the reason why you're coming to the United States is not just because you want to write op-eds, but because you want to participate in movements that are involved in doing things like vandalizing universities, harassing students, taking over buildings ... We're not going to give you a visa," he said.

"If you lie to us and get a visa and then enter the United States, and with that visa participate in that sort of activity, we're going to take away your visa," he added...

US approves $7.4 billion sale of bombs, Hellfire missiles to Israel

The US State Department has announced the approval of the sale of more than $7.4  billion in weapons to Israel, which has used lethal American weapons in its genocidal war on Gaza.

The State Department informed the Congress on Friday that it has approved the sale of $6.75 billion in bombs, guidance kits and fuses, in addition to $660 million in Hellfire missiles to the occupying regime.

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel ...,” the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement.

The arms sale is President Donald Trump’s latest effort to bolster Israel’s weapons stocks. Soon after he took office, he lifted the hold on sending 2,000-pound bombs to Israel.

According to the State Department, two separate sales were sent to Congress on Friday. One is for $6.75 billion in an array of munitions, guidance kits and other related equipment.

It includes 166 small-diameter bombs, 2,800 500-pound bombs, and thousands of guidance kits, fuses and other bomb components and support equipment. Those deliveries would begin this year.

The other arms package is for 3,000 Hellfire missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $660 million...

On November 12, a joint press release by US Senate Foreign Relations Committee hardliners Chris Coons, Jeff Merkley, Marco Rubio, and Todd Young called for combatting China.

The so-called Global Economic Security Strategy Act of 2019 (GESS) is all about wanting China marginalized, weakened, contained, and isolated.

It’s part of the US imperial strategy to undermine China’s economic, financial, technological, and military development.

Senator: US Military Can Intervene in Venezuela

 Republican Senator Marco Rubio stated that the US military can take necessary actions to remove Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from power as his government has become a threat to US national security.

In an interview with Univision, an American Spanish-language TV network, Rubio, who is a vocal opponent of Maduro, said a military intervention by Washington was not out of question.

“I believe that the Armed Forces of the United States are only used in the event of a threat to national security. I believe that there is a very strong argument that can be made at this time that Venezuela and the Maduro regime has become a threat to the region and even to the United States," he added.

The 55-year-old Maduro, who took power in 2013 after the death of Hugo Chavez, has survived massive anti-government protests during the past two years.

Earlier this year, he managed to win a second six-year term. The president has since warned of foreign plots against his country, accusing the opposition of seeking to topple his socialist government with support from Washington.

In recent months, the US has sanctioned dozens of top Venezuelan officials, including Maduro, over allegations of human rights abuses, drug trafficking and the erosion of democratic safeguards.
