Ireland, Spain, Norway to announce recognition of Palestinian state

Spain, Ireland and Norway have recognized a Palestinian state, deepening the Israeli regime’s isolation.

In a coordinated attempt to exert added international pressure on the regime to stop its genocidal campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip, the three major western European nations on Tuesday joined dozens of countries that have already recognized a Palestinian state.

Ireland, Norway, Spain formally recognize Palestinian state

Ireland, Norway and Spain have formally recognized the Palestinian state, angering the Israeli regime that recalled its ambassadors from the two European states.

“Today Ireland, Norway and Spain are announcing that we recognize the state of Palestine, each of us will undertake whatever national steps are necessary to give effect to that decision," Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said at a news conference in Dublin on Wednesday.

“I am confident that further countries will join us in taking this important step in the coming weeks.”

He added that the move was a statement of "unequivocal support" for the so-called two-state solution, which he described as "the only credible path to peace and security."

Shortly after Harris's statement, his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said both countries will recognize the Palestine state from May 28.

Sanchez said it is clear is that “[Israeli] prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not have a project of peace for Palestine.”..

Norway 'ready' to recognize Palestinian sovereignty: PM Store

Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said his country "stands ready" to recognize the sovereignty of Palestine and its full membership in the United Nations.

The news came after a meeting with his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez, who, on Friday, embarked on a European tour to convince more nations to recognize an independent Palestinian state.

"The question is at what moment and in what setting to (recognize Palestine) in order to support the process towards peace in the region. And what this meeting today has made clear is that we stay very closely coordinated between Madrid and Oslo,” said Store at a joint press conference.

Sanchez said on Friday that Spain wants to recognize Palestine "as soon as possible,” leveraging the move as a way to gain momentum for a definitive peace process.

The leaders highlighted the historical importance of Spain and Norway as mediators. The Madrid Conference of 1991 kicked off negotiations that eventually led to the signing of the Oslo Accord in 1993...
