Noam Chomsky - The 5 Filters of the Mass Media Machine

European Parliament Election Results Send a Clear Populist Message

Neoliberal centrists beware. The people have spoken and they demand representative government that looks out for the interests of the ordinary citizen and will have it one way or another (think Haiti 1791, France 1848, Russia 1917, Spain 1936, Cuba 1953, Egypt 2011.. Occupy and Yellow Vests)

Censorship and Arrests in Wake of Christchurch Attack

from OffGuardian

No matter the source of the violence, no matter the politics or casualties or the location, it seems the reaction of governments in the face of “terrorism” is virtually always the same – clamp down, hard, on individual rights.

This grand tradition goes back hundreds of years, from James I’s crackdown on Catholics after the Gunpowder Plot, through to the despot’s charter that is the Patriot Act, passed within six weeks of 9/11. Just last year, famously, gab.com was heavily targeted in the wake of the “Magabomber” (fake) bombings. (Our article predicted that further purges were on the horizon).

The pattern is established: The state will always – ALWAYS – use a crisis, real or invented, to enhance their power. Most of the time this is done at the cost of individual liberty.

The Christchurch mosque shootings are proving no exception to this rule. NZ police are currently threatening people with 10 years in prison for sharing the live-streamed footage, and other punishments just for owning a copy of the recording.
This crackdown is, simply put, crazy. You can’t charge people for owning a copy of a video that was live-streamed over the internet to millions of people, and you certainly can’t make it illegal to even watch the video. (Further, we as a people, must strongly resist the idea that being “objectionable” could ever be considered a crime. That is insane.)

In 2014 the Metropolitan police suggested the same thing of the ISIS video where James Foley is apparently beheaded. (That was dismissed as ridiculous by a lawyer in this article).

(NOTE: Why some violent videos are deemed “criminal” to even watch, and others aren’t, is an interesting question. Is it just control for control’s sake? Or something more sinister?)

Of course not a shooting goes by in the US that doesn’t result in an outraged chorus of people railing against the 2nd amendment, demanding their government take the dramatic step of removing civilian ownership of guns. (This is somewhat quieter under Trump, because not even the liberal establishment can seriously insist Trump is a fascist on the one-hand, and then insist he take away civilian guns with the other. They do their best though.)

New Zealand are already “tightening” their gun ownership laws.

But New Zealand are going further even than that – blocking sites and services that have literally no connection to the video – they are just alternative.

8chan is where the alleged gunman made his “announcement”, but 4chan was not involved. Both are banned in both Australia and New Zealand. Alternative video hosting sites Liveleak and BitChute have both been blocked, despite neither hosting the video. LiveLeak even released a statement saying they refused to host it. Dissenters, gab’s discussion platform, was also blocked. They have no connection to the arrested man, or the crime itself.

Even ZeroHedge are apparently blocked – their crime? Posting excerpts from the shooter’s “manifesto”...

Homeland Security chairman requests briefing from tech companies after spread of New Zealand footage

from The Hill

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is requesting that tech companies brief Congress on their efforts to crack down on violent extremists following the livestreaming of last week’s massacre in New Zealand.

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) sent letters to the chief executives of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Microsoft saying that he was “deeply concerned” that the suspected attacker was able to livestream his killing spree on Facebook and that other companies struggled to suppress the footage in the hours that followed.

“You must do better. It is clear from the recent pattern of horrific mass violence and thwarted attempts at mass violence — here and abroad — that this is not merely an American issue but a global one. Your companies must prioritize responding to these toxic and violent ideologies with resources and attention,” Thompson wrote.

“If you are unwilling to do so, Congress must consider policies to ensure that terrorist content is not distributed on your platforms — including by studying the examples being set by other countries,” he added...

An Interesting Essay by a Lifelong Neocon Calling for Less and More Controlled Immigration

by Scott Creighton (H/T AuntBB)

The following quotes come from an essay published by The Atlantic yesterday. It was written by neocon and former Bush II speech-writer, David Frum, who not only supported the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq, but is also credited for coming up with the phrase "axis of evil"

Frum left the White House in 2002. Apparently he was fired when his wife sent someone an email bragging her husband came up with that line.

After that he went to work for the neocon American Enterprise Institute.

I post this because you would not expect a globalist neocon to have views like these on the immigration debate. It is notable that the Bush administration didn't come up with Comprehensive Immigration Reform until well after Frum left the White House

This is a very honest look at immigration, what it does for working people, what it does for the rich and how it has been associated with the worst and best times in America's history.

Of course, Big Business and the Fake Left are up in arms about it. It is a good read no matter what side of the debate you come down on. (my thoughts in red)

As Tucker Lies About Sheepdog Sanders, I Answer the Question "What Next?"

Tucker tries to ignore Sanders' current message of economic populism as if he is only focused on SJW "identity politics". This is a deception. If you want to criticize Sanders, as I do, do it on the real flaws in his campaign and character. You don't need to make shit up because all that does is give the BernieBots ammunition.

Globalist Think Tanks Called on to Further Unite, Lest They Lose Their Neo-Liberal Order

by Mark Anderson, 21st Century Wire

The head of one of the world’s oldest elite foreign policy institutions in London is calling for the world’s pro-globalist think tanks to unite like never before, lest their neo-liberal world order dissolve in the populist tide that appears to be rising.

Chatham House Director Dr. Robin Niblett wrote an 11,000-word article entitled “Rediscovering a Sense of Purpose: The Challenge for Western Think Tanks” in Vol. 94, Issue 6 of Chatham House’s journal, International Affairs. In it, he declared: “To devise a common work [program], do think-tanks from across the world also need to possess a common sense of purpose? . . . . After something like a hundred years of think-tank experience, the answer is yes.”

Chatham House, also known as the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is a member of the original array of gilded private institutes that arose and revolutionized the world of geo-politics in the early 20th century. Other major members include the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (shown to have been involved in apparently treasonous activities by the Reece Committee in the 1950s), along with the Brookings Institution, and, of course, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

Echoing the grave concerns expressed during early 2018 by CFR President Richard Haass to the International Relations Committee of the UK’s House of Lords, Dr. Niblett noted in his article that he’s apprehensive about the rise of “populist” politics, the implication being that think-tanks must either modify their mission or risk becoming increasingly irrelevant—possibly to the point of losing their grip on influencing government policy largely from “behind the throne,” something they’ve perfected ever since the eldest think tanks’ early but unsuccessful efforts to push the U.S. into the League of Nations—a failed forerunner of the United Nations.
The deeper challenge for Western think tanks is whether they can rediscover a sense of purpose that is as fit for the 21st Century as was that which mobilized their counterparts in the early 20th Century,” Niblett wrote, with noticeable nostalgia regarding the early days of stealthy power-brokering.
He added that, today, the world’s think tanks “need to stand for certain core principles of governance that have been shown by the experience of the last hundred years to offer the best prospects for sustainable security and prosperity.”

Exactly whose “sustainable security and prosperity” is at stake is never made clear, though the gilded investment class that undergirds these think tanks, and assuredly not the average citizen, is a safe bet. However, Niblett confesses that the age of the Internet, whatever its shortcomings, has generally enabled the citizenry to become better informed and therefore more skeptical of elite opinion...

The Real Left, Phony Left and What’s Left

by Philip Farruggio from the Off Guardian

... Matter of fact, Bernie Sanders, who is in reality a decent and caring guy, calls himself a ‘Democratic Socialist’. Yet, his group supported both John Kerry’s run in ’04 and Obama’s run in 2008.

Sanders supported the NATO (US led) carpet bombing and destruction of Libya in 2011 and our incursions into Syria… and now our banging the drums for a new Cold War with Russia. Sadly, he referred to the late Hugo Chavez, democratically elected leader of Venezuela, as a ‘Dead Dictator’!

This ‘Phony Left’ still won’t come out in favor of nationalizing Big Business, especially the real culprits, the Wall Street banks! Do you ever hear these folks ditto that in regard to Big Pharma or Corporate Absentee Landlords? As far as taking on the Super Rich, new ‘Phony Left ‘ presidential candidate Sen. Warren wants to assess a whopping 2% surtax on any assets over 50 million dollars. Wow! You got to be kidding me! The real tragedy is that this ‘Peanut plan’ of hers is already being slammed by the embedded mainstream media. When will this comedic material, right out of a Marx Brothers film, cease?

Ok, now as to the title of this column, what’s left on the Amerikan plate?

Well, and again sadly, we have over a hundred million of our fellow citizens who still buy into this ‘Free Enterprise’ garbage that the right-wing and centrist Phony Left have been selling for seems forever. So many decent working stiffs still will defend to their (fiscal?) death the right for anyone to earn as much as possible.

Why? Well, any mention of true socialism as been tangled together with what we have been propagandized to believe as the hated and feared Communism...

Trump's Wall Speech Lifted from Comprehensive Immigration Reform and Chamber of Commerce

The immigration crisis has been created by BOTH SIDES of the artificial divide in Washington in order to clear the way for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, something Big Business and the Chamber of Commerce have wanted for nearly two decades.

Trump's speech last night and the proposed "compromise" is just the first step in their achieving their goal and it is important to understand the globalists behind it.

How Insidious is the Gillette "We Believe" Video?

On the surface, Gillette's "We Believe" video is about hijacking the "Me Too" movement and demonizing masculinity as if it's some kind of toxic sludge pouring from a P&G plant in Cambodia or something.

But that's just the surface. In reality it's much, much worse.

How a NeoCon-Backed “Fact Checker” Plans to Wage War on Independent Media

by Whitney Webb from Mint Press News

Soon after the social media “purge” of independent media sites and pages this past October, a top neoconservative insider — Jamie Fly — was caught stating that the mass deletion of anti-establishment and anti-war pages on Facebook and Twitter was “just the beginning” of a concerted effort by the U.S. government and powerful corporations to silence online dissent within the United States and beyond.

While a few, relatively uneventful months in the online news sphere have come and gone since Fly made this ominous warning, it appears that the neoconservatives and other standard bearers of the military-industrial complex and the U.S. oligarchy are now poised to let loose their latest digital offensive against independent media outlets that seek to expose wrongdoing in both the private and public sectors.

As MintPress News Editor-in-Chief Mnar Muhawesh recently wrote, MintPress was informed that it was under review by an organization called Newsguard Technologies, which described itself to MintPress as simply a “news rating agency” and asked Muhawesh to comment on a series of allegations, several of which were blatantly untrue. However, further examination of this organization reveals that it is funded by and deeply connected to the U.S. government, neo-conservatives, and powerful monied interests, all of whom have been working overtime since the 2016 election to silence dissent to American forever-wars and corporate-led oligarchy..

What Carey Welder of Anti-Media Gets 100% Wrong Regarding Facebook's New PURGE

The video is very glitchy. Audio is good so I am posting it. I will make the next video by saving to the external drive as opposed to the local one and see if that fixes it.

DHS Says of Our New Man-In-The-Middle Election System: "This House is Clean"

DHS Sec. Nielsen at a CIA-Washington Post summit on cyber security says don't worry... democracy wont break out again like it did in 2016. Got all that covered now. They got Michael Chertoff on the case, so we're safe. And after all, he was a Hillary supporter so the left out there can rest easy.

I mean, if the left can't trust Michael Ghoul Chertoff, who can they trust?

Funny world we live in, huh?

Two CFR Videos Expose Hatred of Populism and Fear of an Interconnected, Uncensored Participatory Public

by Scott Creighton (archived repost from May 27, 2018)

The Council on Foreign Relations sets the tone and the agenda for the neoliberal globalists across the world and they hold seminars regularly to get their bullet points out to their sleeper cells who in turn take action like so many Amway regional reps would after a convention.

Though I watch these things regularly so I can better understand the major narrative and agenda item shifts of our adversaries (so nice of them to underestimate us by making these things public thinking we wont see or care about them), I rarely publish them on my website. They are dry and usually simple regurgitation of previous neoliberal indoctrination material, devoid of actionable intelligence as it were.

However, these two videos below are fascinating in that they come right out and admit they are concerned to the point of panic that they are losing the battle for the hearts and minds of the targeted populations. Us.

The first video is from May 3, 2018. The second from April 23.

The first one deals with them planning on how to tackle the issue of “fake news” and by that they mean how they need to regain control of the thinking of the people by 1. continuing to push pro-free market neoliberal globalization while simultaneously 2. stemming the flow of communication between citizens in an open and free manner which counters their lies and deceptions.

The second tackles the issue of how to counter the rise of populism in what they call “illiberal” or “fake” democracies around the world. The list several repeatedly 1. Turkey 2. Venezuela 3. Russia 4. Hungary 5. Poland (they also mentioned “Donald Trump” in passing as an example of someone gaining political influence by appealing to “populism”)

Just for the record:

“populism – support for the concerns of ordinary people”
