U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has sponsored Joint Resolutions of Disapproval over some of Trump’s continued backing of Netanyahu.

“As a result of Israel’s blocking of humanitarian aid into Gaza, many thousands of children there face malnutrition and even starvation,” Sanders said. “Sadly, and illegally, much of the carnage in Gaza has been carried out with U.S.-provided military equipment. Providing more offensive weapons to continue this disastrous war would violate U.S. and international law.”

Among the weapons included in the resolution are 35,000 two-thousand-pound bombs, which have caused thousands of civilian casualties over the past 18 months. The international outcry over these war crimes was so great that even President Joe Biden suspended their shipment last spring. Trump insisted that such arms shipments should be resumed, however, and the majority of Senate Democrats are supporting him.

Indeed, only 14 Democratic Senators voted for Sanders’ resolutions to block the transfer of these and other deadly weapons.

This was not a result of political pressure. Only 15% of Americans and just 5% of Democrats support additional military aid to Israel. Senate offices were flooded with calls to support the resolutions in a campaign organized by a wide array of peace, human rights, and religious organizations. Despite this, more than 70% of Senate Democrats sided with Trump and the arms industry over the wishes of their constituents.

The truth is that a number of Democratic members of Congress, whom millions of people see as leading the resistance, actually ally with Trump on foreign policy...

Here is the appeal Sen. Sanders made just before bringing his two resolutions to the floor of the Senate. How does anyone vote against a measure to stop giving 2,000lb bombs to people who will drop them on refugee children in tents?

The contentious contest came just weeks after Representative Jamaal Bowman of New York, another outspoken progressive and vocal Israel critic, suffered a stinging primary defeat. Pro-Israel lobbies unseat Democratic lawmaker over criticism of Israel

Pro-Israel lobbies have ousted an outspoken critic of the occupying Israeli regime in US Democratic primary in suburban New York in yet another indication of support for the illegal entity in its months-long devastating war on Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

American media reports said on Tuesday that congressman Jamaal Bowman lost a primary challenge to his Democratic rival, George Latimer, who had entered the race at the urging of local Jewish leaders over Bowman’s vocal criticism of Israel and its genocidal war in Gaza.

With more than 70% of votes counted on Tuesday evening, Latimer had won nearly 56% of the vote, compared with 44% for Bowman.

“This movement has always been about justice. It has always been about humanity. It has always been about equality,” Bowman, who had been seeking a third term, said at his election party in Yonkers, conceding that he lost the race but remaining unapologetic about his opposition to the war in Gaza.

We’re less than two weeks away from the Democratic primary in New York’s 16th district and things are not looking good for Rep. Jamaal Bowman.

A new poll from Emerson College shows Bowman’s challenger, Westchester County Executive George Latimer, leading 48% to 31%.

Latimer is backed by AIPAC and the financial discrepancy is staggering. So far Bowman has spent less than $2 million on the race, while AIPAC alone has spent $13 million in support of Latimer. They’re projected to spend $25 million on the race altogether.

Bowman became a target of pro-Israel lobbying groups the moment he mounted a campaign against longtime House member and pro-Israel zealot Eliot Engel four years ago. Since ousting Engel in that upset, Bowman has remained a thorn in the lobby’s side, but things really got serious after October 7th. US Senate preparing sanctions on ICC employees – Fox

US senators have called for punitive action against the International Criminal Court (ICC) after its chief prosecutor sought arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas leaders over the ongoing Gaza conflict, Fox News reported on Thursday. 

Earlier this week, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant of committing “war crimes and crimes against humanity” in the Palestinian enclave. He requested that the ICC issue warrants for their arrest, as well as the arrest of three Hamas leaders believed to be responsible for the October 7 attack, which sparked the latest escalation.  

In response to the move, Republican and Democratic Senators Mike Rounds and Joe Manchin called for a resolution that, according to Fox News Digital, would urge President Joe Biden and Congress to “impose financial sanctions and visa bans on officials of the ICC for an abuse of power that threatens US interests and weakens US allies.”...

‘No one can deny Zionist power and grip on American political system’

After the UN General Assembly on Friday overwhelmingly backed the Palestinians’ drive for full membership, which is blocked by the United States, Robert Wood, Washington’s ambassador to the UN, said it remains his country’s view “that unilateral measures at the UN and on the ground will not advance this goal”.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Sami al-Arian, director of the Center for Islam and Global Affairs at Istanbul Zaim University, said frustration is growing within the UN body due to the US’s continuous use of its veto power in favour of Israel.

“We have two states in this system – the United States and Israel – on one hand, and virtually the world on the other,” he said.

“People are extremely frustrated because they can’t get this war to end, they can’t get any kind of resolution and now even the humanitarian aid, which the United States has been threatening Israel, is being cut off for the past four-five days – nothing has been done about it,” al-Arian added.

“With all this destruction and havoc taking place and yet the United States does not see that it can intervene and make a difference.”
