Serbian opposition throwing smoke grenades in parliament

(So what happens in a color revolution? When the few real people protesting get what they want, the assets try to block it so the regime change operation can continue.)

from RT

A session of Serbia’s parliament briefly descended into chaos on Tuesday when opposition MPs set off smoke grenades and tear gas to protest against the government, causing serious injuries.

As the spring session kicked off on Tuesday, tensions flared when the ruling coalition, led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), approved the legislative agenda. Some opposition politicians rushed from their seats toward the speaker’s chair, resulting in a scuffle with security guards.

Parliament was set to adopt a law increasing funds for universities – one of the main demands of students protesting since December. Additionally, a debate on the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vucevic was scheduled. However, opposition MPs argued it was improper to adopt bills proposed by a government whose prime minister had already resigned.

Kremlin comments on Serbia’s UN ‘mistake’

from RT

Moscow has accepted Belgrade's explanation for mistakenly voting in favor of an anti-Russian resolution on Ukraine at the UN on Monday, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. Serbia has had traditionally close ties with Russia.

Peskov was responding to questions about Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s apology for the error, attributing it to being “tired and overwhelmed.”

“We have certainly heard [the explanation] and certainly accepted it. Indeed, technical mistakes happen. And of course, we appreciate such a prompt reaction from the head of state,” Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

Two competing resolutions on Ukraine were submitted to mark the 3rd year of the conflict, one initiated by Kiev and its EU backers, which condemned Russia.

The other, US-backed text, which avoided branding Russia as an aggressor and called for a “swift end” to the conflict, was later tabled at the UN Security Council, where it passed with 10 votes in favor, with backing from Moscow and Washington and five abstentions from European members...

Serbia will overcome attempted color revolution: President

(This article is from Feb 15 2025. On Feb 18th it was reported that Rubio suspended 14 million in USAID funding to Serbia which was going to help the government of that country in various ways. Over 900 million has been funneled into that country from USAID since 2021 for various reasons.)

from Xinhua

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic declared on Saturday that the ongoing protests in Serbia were an attempted "color revolution" orchestrated by foreign influences but insisted that it had failed and that Serbia had prevailed.

Speaking at a Statehood Day event in the Serbian western town of Sremska Mitrovica, Vucic accused international organizations, such as USAID, of funding efforts to destabilize the country and vowed that Serbia would recover from the damage caused.

"And now I tell you, their color revolution has failed. Inform USAID, NED, and EED. Let them all know-it's over. Serbia has won, and you will never defeat Serbia," Vucic said.

He criticized the protests, which have included student demonstrations and road blockades, blaming them for economic setbacks and a lack of investment...

Under-fire Serbian PM Vucevic resigns

from RT

Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic officially announced his resignation on Tuesday following weeks of anti-government protests over alleged corruption and negligence.

His decision comes after sustained public outcry that began with anger over the collapse of a concrete canopy at the Novi Sad railway station three months ago, resulting in 15 deaths.

In his resignation statement on Tuesday, Vucevic claimed that the ongoing protests across the country are being organized from abroad with the ultimate goal of staging a coup d’etat. “I can say with certainty that this is an absolutely deliberate action, organized from abroad, I have no doubt about that,” Vucevic said, adding that a blow had been dealt to the most “sensitive area of society – children’s education,” with the aim of “threatening Serbia as a state.”

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has also accused the country’s opposition of collaborating with foreign intelligence agencies to destabilize the country, describing the protests as an attempt at a “color revolution.” He has specifically claimed that a coalition of Western, Croatian, and Albanian interests was working to “to destroy Serbia from within.”...

The Belt and Road in Europe: Between Tragedy in Ukraine and Hope in Serbia

from BRIX March 2022

... China and Serbia are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement that is expected to be signed by the end of 2022. This will increase the volume of trade between the two countries dramatically.

President Alexander Vučić, and President of Poland Andrzej Duda were among the few European leaders who visited Beijing during the Winter Olympics 2022 and held talks with President Xi Jinping on matters related to the Eurasian express rail connection and the importance of enhancing the connectivity through rail and building logistics hubs in Poland. Poland has become one of the bottlenecks in the China-EU Express and needs investments in rail infrastructure to cope with the rising volumes of freight.

Serbia is emerging as a major economic partner of China in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. But this is not an isolated country nor a separate policy of China. This is integral to the expansion of the BRI cooperation in a region which has been basically abandoned by the EU and the U.S. in terms of investments in infrastructure and regional connectivity. In reality, China is doing the EU and Europe a favor by connecting this region together to the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and the Black Sea. Many of the “European Corridors” in this region are standing still with lack of financing and capacity to construct. China is filling a major gap in the connectivity of the European continent.

Peace through economic cooperation should become the norm for modern diplomacy and international relations. The BRI has shown its potential to bridge political, cultural, and social differences.

China, Serbia Eye Stepped-Up Cooperation Through Extraditions

from the CIA's Radio Free Europe Dec 2024 H/T AuntBB

Serbia has extradited five Chinese citizens in the last five years, according to data obtained by RFE/RL.

While one extradition case between China and Serbia was made public in 2021, the new instances, which were obtained by RFE/RL’s Balkan Service through a freedom-of-information request from the Serbian Justice Ministry, shows extraditions took place on a larger scale than previously known.

That cooperation is also set to grow as the Justice Ministry prepares to submit to parliament a draft extradition law with China that, if passed, would expand the scope of cooperation between Beijing and Belgrade...

Serbia might snub EU and join Brics, president says

(In November of the same year a small protest broke out regarding the collapse of a canopy in Novi Sad which killed 16 people. The locals blamed the collapse on corrupt local politicians, namely the mayor, but it appears the globalists saw it as a target of opportunity and latched onto it as a trigger for a nationwide color revolution to oust current leadership (President Aleksandar Vucic and his ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS)) and move the country further from Russia and China and BRICS back into the fold of NATO, the West and the EU. This is what happened in Ukraine as well and probably what is happening in Georgia. They always latch onto an organic albeit small protest or demonstration and then try to amplify it to include the full regime change of the country. They did it in Turkey with Gezi Park protests and in China with an extradition law and now in Serbia. This also fits the current model of the regime change NGOs by it's use of well meaning yet naive young people. They found that these target market of energetic youth were easily manipulated and eager to put their own stamp on the future direction of the nations in which they live. They have done this kind of destabilization using youth activists everywhere from Hong Kong to the United States and even globally on behalf of the 'Global Warming' agenda. Now they are doing the same thing in Belgrade.)

from The Times Oct 25 2024

Serbia’s president Aleksandar Vucic has thrown his country’s future in the European Union into doubt by suggesting it could instead join Brics, the global economic bloc hosted in Russia this week by Vladimir Putin.

Belgrade has long performed an East-West balancing act, but with the war in Ukraine forcing the world to take sides, the scales are tilting evermore toward the Kremlin.

Russian and Belarusian dissidents sheltering inside the country have told The Times that Serbian authorities have begun a crackdown against them at the Kremlin’s behest, while an opposition MP has accused Aleksandar Vulin, the deputy prime minister, of breaking a Putin ally out of Italian custody and spiriting him away to Moscow on a charter flight from Belgrade. Serbia has also refused to join western sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine...

On Tuesday he claimed that Serbian popular support for BRICS, a group of countries that “blackmail us less” than the EU, had reached 42 per cent, adding that the appeal of the blocs had now drawn level.

“When people vote for a new president in two and a half years, this will become one of the key topics. Who knows, maybe it will even become a point for a referendum,” Vucic said.

Russia and Serbia have long celebrated a close bond over their shared Slavic background, but Putin has used cheap gas supplies to consolidate his influence over the Balkan nation, which sits strategically amidst EU and Nato allies.

“Any defeat of Russia will be a defeat for Serbia,” Vulin, 52, told Russian media last month, adding that the two countries’ security services enjoyed “excellent co-operation”. He accused the West of fomenting a colour revolution in Serbia, which he would curtail by Kremlin-style legislation outlawing civil society organisations as “foreign agents”...

Serbia deploys FK-3 air defense system, ‘flagship export product from China’

(As good as this system is, it can't do a thing against color revolutions.)

from Global Times Jan 1 2025 H/T AuntBB

The Serbian Ministry of Defense announced its deployment of the Chinese-made FK-3 mid-range air defense weapon system, emphasizing its advanced capabilities, news website Defence Blog reported on Thursday. A military expert told the Global Times that the FK-3 demonstrates robust combat capabilities and serves as a flagship export product in China's air and missile defense portfolio.

"By arming the Air Force and Air Defense with the new FK-3 air defense missile system, the airspace control and protection system has been significantly improved in the Republic of Serbia," the Serbian Ministry of Defense said in a recent statement. It said that the system comprises a command center vehicle, rocket launchers, radars, and logistics support vehicles.

The Serbian Ministry of Defense also released detailed images of the FK-3 from different angles, including its inclined launch mode.

According to the Serbian Ministry of Defense's statement, Captain 1st Class Stefan Manić, commander of the FK-3 missile battery, described the system as a "milestone in air defense systems."...

Will America or China Win the Serbian Proxy War?

from Politico 9/2024 H/T AuntBB

This Balkan country is one of the most important in-between places in the world today. Its fate will help determine which Great Power comes to dominate this century — and is an overlooked test of American power for whoever takes the White House this November.

Serbia sits in a geostrategic gray zone, pulled between the authoritarian powers of Beijing and Moscow and more recently, after some years of neglect, the U.S. and its European allies. It’s not alone. Moldova and Georgia are two other European states straddling those worlds. The Ukrainians have fought for over two years to stay free. In Asia, the proxy battle between democracy and despotism is over Taiwan.

For now, Serbia’s leaders lean this way and that, depending on the day, without explicitly picking sides. But this struggle is going to come to a head sooner than later...

But neither Washington nor Brussels has leaned in on Serbia. Their main goal seems to be to keep Serbia from becoming a Russian satellite like Belarus. “Our greatest concern is the malign influence of Russia,” said a Western diplomat who asked not to be named. “We want Serbia aligned with the West, part of a system that opposes Russian expansionism.”...

Serbs eager to head westward look above all to Washington. The senior minister said the U.S. should be using its voice and influence to help Serbia, as it did Poland and other Central European countries over 20 years ago, to get into the EU. Many Serbs remember that the last U.S. president to visit Belgrade was Jimmy Carter in 1980. China’s Xi has been here twice and Putin three times. A little more focus on Serbia in Washington could make a difference on the ground here — to give this government a path to get closer to the free world and, along the way, make them less predisposed to autocrats and autocratic habits...

World leaders no longer working toward peace – Serbian president

 from RT

The international community is no longer interested in ending conflicts, and instead views peace as an “unwanted” ideal, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has claimed in an interview with TASS published on Tuesday.

His comments follow last week’s annual Munich Security Conference, which saw senior officials and heads of state from all over the world gather in the German city to debate international security issues, including the Ukraine conflict.

Vucic noted that he has participated in the forum numerous times, using the opportunity to gauge “how the Western world thinks” and its willingness to listen to varying opinions, including from smaller nations.

This year, however, Vucic said he did not hear any innovative suggestions toward resolving conflicts, describing the conference participants as behaving like “football fans.” The Serbian leader said he had concluded that the word “peace” appears to have become “unloved and unwanted throughout the world.”...
