Israeli journalist calls for rape of Palestinian prisoners

A journalist from Israel on Thursday advocated for rape to become an official policy by the state for Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails.

"The only thing that is a problem for me here is that it is not a regulated policy of the state to abuse the (Palestinian) detainees,” far-right journalist Yehuda Schlesinger said.

Schlesinger was asked if raping prisoners is acceptable during a television program on Channel 12.

He justified his comments by claiming, "Because first of all, they deserve it, and it is great revenge that we need to give them."

"And secondly, maybe it will also serve us a little more as a deterrent," he said. "It is just a shame that we don't do it in an institutionalized way as a part of regulations for torture of prisoners.”...

On Monday, thousands of Israelis stormed military facilities and government buildings to protest the detention of ten soldiers accused of gang-raping a Palestinian prisoner. Adding to the shock, Israeli media and Ministers in the Knesset defended the soldiers’ actions, while the lawyers for the accused rapists claimed “self-defense.”

The events of July 29 garnered significant attention on social media, finally highlighting an issue detailed in a recent United Nations report. The report described how Israel has “systematically targeted and subjected Palestinians to SGBV [Sexual and Gender-Based Violence] online and in person since October 7, including through forced public nudity, forced public stripping, sexualized torture and abuse, and sexual humiliation and harassment.” For Palestinians and those who have been following the issue, the real shock was not that Israeli soldiers were raping detainees—who are being held without charges—but the brazenness with which members of the Israeli political class and society publicly defended such actions.

Israeli lawmaker defends anal rape of Palestinian captives

Eight reservists have been accused of sodomizing a prisoner with a broomstick 

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) arrested eight reservists on Monday as part of a probe into alleged torture of a Palestinian captive, prompting rioters, including several lawmakers, to break into a military base demanding their release. One argued that nothing was off-limits when it came to dealing with Hamas.

Ten soldiers were originally caught up in the investigation. Two were released early on Wednesday, while eight were ordered to remain in custody through Sunday. According to the IDF, they have been accused of aggravated sodomy, causing bodily harm, abuse, and conduct unbecoming of a soldier.

The arrest of the reservists on Monday interrupted a meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee, as a MP of the ruling Likud party, Hanoch Milwidsky, tried to walk out in protest.

“To insert a stick in a person’s rectum, is that legitimate?” asked Ahmad Tibi, an Israeli-Arab lawmaker.

“Yes!” Milwidsky shouted back. “If he is a Nukhba, everything is legitimate to do! Everything!”...
