Family members of Sayfollah Musallet, a 20-year-old American beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, have urged the US government to investigate the incident and hold perpetrators accountable.
Musallet’s family said in a statement that Israeli settlers surrounded him for three hours during the assault on Friday and attacked medics who were attempting to reach him.
“This is an unimaginable nightmare and injustice that no family should ever have to face,” the statement said.
“We demand the US State Department lead an immediate investigation and hold the Israeli settlers who killed Saif accountable for their crimes. We demand justice.”
The US has previously resisted calls to investigate the killing of US citizens by Israeli forces. Instead, US officials say that Israel is capable of investigating its own abuses.
However, Israeli investigations rarely lead to criminal charges against settlers or soldiers, despite their well-documented violations against Palestinians...

Former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert says settlers have been committing “war crimes” against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank under the protection of the Tel Aviv regime.
Speaking on Israel’s Channel 13 on Saturday, Olmert said “hilltop youth” or “youths of horror” assault Palestinians, run off their lands and torch their homes, on a daily basis.
“In the West Bank, war crimes are occurring daily. Jews are murdering Palestinians. Burning them,” he added.
The Israeli police shut their eyes to the settler violence, while the military does not do what it is supposed to do.
However, the hosts of the show alleged that only a small minority of Israeli settlers attack Palestinians.
Olmert refuted the claim, saying, “This is not a minority, that’s a false claim. They (the settlers) have backing, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to do it.”
He further referred to the case of Sayfollah Musallet, a young Palestinian-American man who was beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the West Bank town of Sinjil on Friday...

Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank beat a U.S. citizen to death, according to local officials, during a Friday confrontation between a group of Israelis and Palestinians.
A municipal official and a relative of 21-year-old Sayfollah Musallet confirmed his death to NPR. Musallet was born in Florida and was in the village of Sinjil this week visiting family.
The Israeli military said that a confrontation had broken out between Palestinians and Israelis, and officials were investigating reports of a Palestinian civilian killed.
A U.S. embassy spokesperson confirmed Musallet's death.
Israeli officials rarely prosecute those accused of violence against Palestinians, and when they do, a very small percentage end in conviction...

Israeli settlers beat a Palestinian-American man to death and fatally shot another during a coordinated assault on villagers in the occupied West Bank on Friday.
Saif al-Din Musalat, 23, died after being "severely beaten across various parts of his body", the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
Witnesses told Middle East Eye that settlers struck him in the head, abdomen and back.
While he was critically wounded, settlers held him and blocked an ambulance from reaching him for 40 minutes. He died en route to hospital.
Musalat was an American citizen. His funeral was postponed to allow his father to arrive from the United States.
The second victim, 23-year-old Muhammad Shalabi, went missing during the settler attack.
Residents later found his body among bushes, bearing gunshot wounds and facial bruises.
Witnesses said he appeared to have been beaten before being shot.

A 20-year-old Palestinian-American was killed by Israeli settlers while visiting relatives in the occupied West Bank, his family have said.
Sayfollah “Saif” Musallet was reportedly beaten by Israeli settlers while he was on his family’s farm in an area near Ramallah. A group then prevented ambulances from reaching Musallet for three hours, according to the family, who said he died of his injuries before reaching hospital.
“I was the first one to reach Saif,” said Mohammed Nael Hijaz, a 22-year-old friend of Musallet. “He was not moving when I got there and he could barely breathe. There was time to save him.”
Another Palestinian man, 23-year-old Razek Hussein al-Shalabi, was fatally shot during the attack and was left to bleed to death, the Palestinian health ministry said. The funeral for both men will be held on Sunday so they can be buried together, according to a cousin of Musallet.
The attacks come amid a wave of increasing Israeli settler violence targeting Palestinians in the West Bank – more than 1,000 Paestinians have been killed and at least 9,000 injured since Hamas militants launched a murderous assault in southern Israel on 7 October 2023.
