West Bank tensions spike as Israeli forces, settlers carry out violent raids

Israeli forces have intensified their violent incursions into numerous areas of the West Bank, as the occupying entity continues its aggressive actions in the region alongside the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Palestine’s official news agency WAFA said two Palestinian youths were injured on Saturday evening by the Israeli occupation forces in the east of the occupied West Bank city of Ariha.

One of them was wounded by live gunfire and another as a result of physical assault, the report added.

“One of the victims sustained a live bullet wound, while the other suffered a head injury due to beating. Both were transferred to hospital for treatment,” the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said.

WAFA also reported that Israeli forces had set up a military checkpoint east of Ariha, where they opened live fire at civilians and assaulted several others.

In another development on Saturday evening, several Palestinians were injured when dozens of Israeli settlers attacked the town of Deir Dibwan, located east of Ramallah.

WAFA said the settlers stormed the eastern entrance of the town and attempted to force their way in while local residents confronted them, which resulted in multiple minor injuries among the Palestinians...

Israel announces expansion of illegal settlements in occupied West Bank

The Israeli government says it will establish 22 illegal settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank, including the legalisation of some so-called “outposts” already built without government authorisation, in a move decried by Palestinian officials and rights groups.

Defence Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the decision on Thursday, with Katz saying that it “strengthens our hold on Judea and Samaria,” using an Israeli term for the occupied West Bank.

He added it was also “a strategic move that prevents the establishment of a Palestinian state that would endanger Israel”.

Smotrich, himself a settler on illegally occupied Palestinian-owned land and an advocate for Israeli annexation of the West Bank, hailed the “historic decision”.

In a statement, the Likud party of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the move as a “once-in-a-generation decision”, emphasising its strategic value in fortifying Israel’s hold along the eastern border with Jordan...
