Notes for this afternoon's video
Justice Department stops lying about Cartel of the Suns https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/05/us/trump-venezuela-drug-cartel-de-los-soles.html
'The Justice Department has backed off a dubious claim about President Nicolás Maduro that the Trump administration promoted last year in laying the groundwork to remove him from power in Venezuela: accusing him of leading a drug cartel called Cartel de los Soles.' NYT
now the story is there was a fight put up by Venezuela https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/07/us/politics/trump-venezuela-helicopter.html
'In the early hours of Saturday morning, U.S. Army helicopters skimmed 100 feet above the sea and then over Caracas, Venezuela’s capital, racing toward their target. Their stealthy pathway had been cleared by an American cyberattack that darkened the city, and by radar-evading U.S. fighter jets that pounded Venezuela’s Russian-built air defenses.
Initially, the helicopters, carrying dozens of Army Delta Force commandos, flew undetected.' NYT

'Venezuela does not have US-made Stinger missiles; instead, they possess a large inventory of Russian-madeIgla-S (SA-24 Grinch) man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS), which are comparable to Stingers and are a key part of their air defense against potential threats, including from the U.S.. Venezuelan President Maduro claimed in late 2025 to have deployed 5,000 of these Russian missiles, alongside other Russian air defense assets like Pantsir-S1 and S-300VM systems, to bolster national defense' Google AI
read from CNN
'“Any military force in the world knows the power of the Igla-S and Venezuela has no less than 5,000” of them, Maduro said during an event with military personnel broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
The Russian Igla-S missiles are short-range, low-altitude systems similar to American Stingers. They can shoot down small aerial targets such as cruise missiles and drones, as well as helicopters and low-flying planes.
Maduro said the missiles, light enough to be carried by a single soldier, had been deployed “even in the last mountain, the last town, and the last city of the territory.”' CNN Oct 25 2025
You mean to tell me they took out 5,000 of these?
hmm?
