Iran tightens control over Strait of Hormuz, suspending maritime traffic

The developments mark the sharpest escalation yet in the maritime dispute between Tehran and Washington since the end of the recent US-Israeli war against Iran, with Iranian military and civilian authorities insisting that responsibility for managing navigation through the strait rests exclusively with Iran under the bilateral understanding reached in Islamabad.

Speaking on state television on Sunday, Iranian Army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia said the United States had once again demonstrated 'a longstanding pattern of failing to honor its international commitments,' comparing the current dispute with Washington's withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement and 'violations of the recent ceasefire arrangement.'

Akraminia said the Islamabad MoU explicitly assigns Iran responsibility for organizing transit and navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz and obliges the Iranian Armed Forces to ensure the security of maritime passage.

Iran Allows a ‘Number’ of Chinese Vessels To Transit Strait of Hormuz

Iranian media reported on Thursday that Tehran has approved the transit of a “number” of Chinese vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, as President Trump is in Beijing for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“Following requests by the Chinese foreign minister and the country’s ambassador to Iran, facilitation of the passage of Chinese ships was pursued based on the deep relations and the strategic partnership between Tehran and Beijing, and it was decided that a number of Chinese ships requested by the country would transit this waterway after reaching an understanding about the Iranian management protocols of the strait, and this passage began Wednesday night,” Iran’s Mehr news agency reported.

IRGC says it will allow ‘safe, stable’ transit via Hormuz ‘with aggressor threats neutralized’

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that transit through the Strait of Hormuz will gradually become safe and stable as the security situation in the Persian Gulf improves "with the aggressor's threats neutralized."

The IRGC Navy said in a post on its X account on Wednesday that it had seen a good level of compliance with its regulations from shipping companies and staff seeking to transit the Strait of Hormuz.

It said that Iran would allow a resumption of transit in the key waterway, which is responsible for a fifth of global oil demand, now that threats from the US and the Israeli regime against Iran are subsiding.
